The thing about the wii...

I might be entirely wrong but in my oppinion people seem to miss the point of the Wii.

I've seen on these forum people saying that the Wii is a toy not a games console. Now the fact is that games consoles are toys. Saying it's not a toy is just a way for adults to justify playing it (when really there's no need, plenty of adults play with rubix cubes). In general the view is that Wiis are for kids. Sure they are for kids. But in PS1 days plenty of games had the 3+ label on them. If anything, a higher age rating makes it less of a games console and more of an interactive movie. Stop bashing the Wii. It holds its own in the sales and don't say that sales mean nothing because they do. They mean more people, REAL people, have bought it. Look at it this way. If everyone who ever played a game voted on this forum, the Wii would win.

Eager to see the arguments this racks up.

Btw I spent 600 GBP building a new gaming PC so I'm not a fanboy... Well I'm a PC fanboy :D.

however, many, many Wii users don't come to GameSpot, especially not to debate their system. that's a big reason why it is trashed on this site.

i love it. it's the only Current get system I own, but I'm in the minority on GS.

Disney isn't a genre its a company. How is it not a toy. Toy - something that serves for or as if for diversion, rather than for serious pratical use. Is that not what a games console is? Or do you use yours productively?

That's what parents are for ;). Kids not been able to buy things independently doesn't mean they can't possess them.

I agree that they could be seen as an art form. But the Wii is comparable to the PS3 and 360 in this sense.

Games are media, consoles are toys.

I consider video games different from toys in the way that games have a point, a winner and a loser. If you are playing with something that doesn't have a winner or a loser or a challenge, then I would consider it a toy. I don't really care what semantic argument you want to use to label my Wii, I will enjoy it no matter what you call it.DaBrainz

GS is a company and therefore it will try and use its scores to appeal to it's target market. Which is probably more PS3 and XBOX 360 owners than Wii owners.

They have all these kiddie games on the system... and, thing is, they're not even fun kiddy games like we used to get with the N64 (Donkey Kong 64, Paper Mario, Super Mario 64). Now, these Nintendo games are just...boring.awmannn
