Mario Maker is so far above every other game released this year. The sheer brilliance that some members of the community have showed thus far is insane.

Often times people have commented on the fact that the NSMB series was lacking in difficulty, and that problem is solved through simply searching through only expert levels. Some of these levels even have better game designs than some Nintendo programmed stages.

This is like having and infinite amount of Mario levels at your fingertips. This game has honestly given me that, "One more game" feeling that I haven't felt in decades. Bravo Nintendo! Bravo!

Yeah, it looks awesome. If I only pick up one game for the rest of the year, MM would be it. It's one of those titles I'll be enjoying for years to come I'm sure.

Goty though? Not for me. For all of its flaws, MGSV is still blowing my mind. Best game I've played this gen, easily.

While I think that Mario Maker is fantastic, and I have already gotten quite a few hours of enjoyment out of it(it's the first game that makes my innumerable amiibos feel useful), I don't think a product that is essentially just a really polished toolkit with a server attached to host user content should be in the running for game of the year.

I've seen some video of Rocket League and I can't understand the fascination with it. It looks like a run of the mill physics based game with very loose gameplay.

Sorry mate, GOTY is rightfully The Witcher 3 or MGS5. Bloodborne is superb but it's not GOTY material and I really can't see Fallout 4 topping Witcher. It might in commercial success but definately not critical success.

It's a ton of fun, but it takes sooo long to unlock all the options. I've played the game for several hours and only unlocked the first set of items after the default set. I'm not sure how the unlocking system works.

My nod is to the Witcher 3 at this point. MGS5 is right up there and I think Bloodborne gets a mention as well. Fallout 4 could win some over with its building shelters and sharper gunplay from what I have been reading.

To be fair, if you value competent gameplay in your games, there are many titles greater than TW3 this year.

As for the topic, I'm sure Mario Maker is excellent. I just don't see it beating out MGSV or Bloodborne for my tastes.

Ori and The Blind Forest, Shadow Run: Hong Kong, Cities Skylines, and Pillars of Eternity? Having a hard time it beats those as well.

I'm sure it'll be a blast, but it's a level maker, lets be clear here.

It seems everyone forgotten Fallout 4 has yet to release and it's very possible it could win GOTY. But for me, Witcher 3 is my GOTY. I would have buy Mario Maker but I lack the creativity in me. So with that, I'll still buy Mario Maker and give it to my daughter to play it.

Honestly I can't say that I've been at all impressed with MGS5. Granted I'm only on episode 7 or 8, but I feel like the high scores are really a byproduct of the hype it can with and people not wanting to admit that it's just a good, not mind blowing, game.

But so many people who have said it can't beat MGS5 or The Witcher 3 or Bloodborne seemed to not have played MM.

I haven't played W3, so I can't speak to that, but MM is a game that will get BETTER with time. The sheer amount of creativity exhibited this far by the community is pretty crazy. And I feel like that's just the tip of the iceberg. People will get more inventive as time goes on and I can see myself spending 100's of hours in MM and I haven't made a single stage.

The Super Meat boy level alone....glorious.

Others can disagree and that's cool, but right now MM hands down in my book.

Mario Maker is nothing new for us PC players.

We've been playing Mario romhacks for like... What? 15 years now?

And the romhack engine is a lot more powerful than anything you can do with Mario Maker. There are even a lot of really great romhacks for Mario 64, so 3D mario is up for grabs as well.

In terms of free software there are lots of grid based simplistic drag & drop level designers for loads of games. Mario, Megaman, Metroid, all sorts of stuff.

PC gamers a ren't just blowing smoke when they brag about modding. Modding is a top-tier feature.

I didnt like Beyonetta, im not into the Souls games or whatever Mario rehash is 'new' and I havent liked an MGS game since MGS1. I really enjoyed The Withcher 3 and its on of my favorite games this year, but the game I have enjoyed the most all year is an early access game called Subnautica which no one seems to talk about.

Even if we exclude the fact that Mario Maker has been done before, this year had The Witcher 3, which while I don't personally think it was GOTY it certainly is a much more polished, quality product with more to offer.

This year we also saw part 2 of last year's wonderful RPG renaissance. Pillars of Eternity is an absolutely phenomenal game, and it includes its own campaign design tools. So it's a top-tier single player experience that also includes (much more powerful) mod tools.

Mario Maker is a cool idea, but we really just want another proper 3D game. Galaxy 1 and 2 were phenomenal games but the Mario games since then have been really lazy.

Actually, **** the platformers, give me Paper Mario 3. No, not Super Paper Mario, not Sticker Star, a proper new Mario RPG. SMRPG, the M&L series and Paper Mario are the best Mario games, hands down. I don't know why the **** Nintendo refuses to make proper sequels for them.

For me this is Deja Vu all over again. With The Witcher 3 I couldn't stop playing Splatoon and Rocket League. I put 14 hours into MGS V but haven't touched it since Super Mario Maker came out.

I'm gonna try real hard to finish Bloodborne, TW3 and MGS V, but if I had to make a top 3 GOTY list right now it would be,

1 - Rocket League
2 - Super Mario Maker
3 - Splatoon

And those 3 can shuffle around depending on what I played most recently.

Sure all true but competition is brutal this year. Bloodborne, MGSV, The Witcher 3 and maybe Fallout 4 all have a chance of winning GOTY.

Chances of Mario Maker winning GOTY are very slim.

Why? Mario Maker's replay value is greater than all of the those games by definition, and the game design is something that just get better by the day. The possibilities, while not endless, are immense. The UI is smooth and easy to navigate, and the community has ALREADY put out some jawdropping levels.

I guess I'm just curious about the fact that some who say, "No way _______ is better" haven't really given a reason why they think that game is more deserving apart from just name alone. And some who are disagreeing haven't even played the game. I know I can't comment on every game (havent played Wild Hunt) but Bloodborne was a great game that IMO is bested by Mario Maker and MGS V has been underwhelming. To each their own I guess...

Bravo!

You don't compare to any of the other big games that have come out this year at all. Have you even played Witcher, Batman or Phantom Pain? Or are you just waving your Nintendo fanboy flag in excitement because it has been almost a year since the Wii U got anything?

Not sure if serious?

I don't wave a Nintendo flag. I play good games. As you can see I own the Phantom Pain and Ori. I have yet to play The Witcher as I've said, but clearly your reading skills aren't up to par. Arkham Knight was subpar compared to City, so it was a step down for the franchise. I also own Bloodborne and many Wii U games. Plus last I checked Splatoon came out this year for the Wii U, so I don't understand where you get the idea that Wii U hasn't had ANY games since last year.

So now that you look foolish go sit down and let the big boys have a discussion.
