"What you might not be aware of is that GS is well known for appealing mostly to hardcore gamers. The mucky-mucks have been doing a lot of "brand research" over the last year or so and indicating that they want to reach out to more casual gamers. Our last executive editor, Greg Kasavin, left to go to EA, and he was replaced by a suit, Josh Larson, who had no editorial experience and was only involved on the business side of things. Over the last year there has been an increasing amount of pressure to allow the advertising teams to have more of a say in the editorial process; we've started having to give our sales team heads-ups when a game is getting a low score, for instance, so that they can let the advertisers know that before a review goes up. Other publishers have started giving us notes involving when our reviews can go up;if a game's getting a 9 or above, it can go up early; if not, it'll have to wait until after the game is on the shelves."
Wow, just wow. kinda opens your eyes a bit. if anyone had any doubts whether gamespot is dead or not, there you go
The last paragraph was the best, and I think everyone is thinking it right now:
"When companies make games as downright contemptible as Kane and Lynch, they deserve to be called on it. I guess you'll have to go to Onion or a smaller site for objective reviews now, because everyone at GS now thinks that if they give a low score to a high-profile game, they'll be ****canned. Everyone's ****ing scared and we're all hoping to get Josh Larson removed from his position because no one trusts him anymore. If that doesn't happen then look for every game to be Game of the Year material at GameSpot."
If more evidence come like this, then we I don't see us ever using GS scores ever again. If that's the case, what on earth will happen? There will be a lot of conflict I assume.

Personally, I'm out of here. I can't speak for the rest of System Wars, but this is getting annoying. Besides, it'll be good to see some arguments other than the price of PC Gaming and the constant dribble of "teh Cell > life!"

So what site can we trust for game reviews? Obviously not any CNET sites.Freebird8877
I really like Gamer TV votes, but that's only a show that's on once a week - hardly a site where people can have a system wars-like atmosphere. I think we should all take a vote and move to a different review/forum site for gaming. That way we hurt CNET, and we still carry the Gamespot community with us.

Yeah I'm probably out of here too, but I think I will still stick around the PC Gaming boards.Well this is one well informed individual if they are fakers. Very few people know how the review system works, and it's pass through the entire staff before getting submitted.kittykatz5k
Well they do say that in the section where they explain how the review system works... but I doubt very many people have read it. I agree though, this guy is very smart and/or good at lying to pull that off. I didn't seen any discrepancies in what he said.
Well this is one well informed individual if they are fakers. Few people know how the review system works, and it's pass through the entire staff before getting submitted. It adds up perfeclty with some comment one of the review team left on this forum a year, year and a half ago after a game flopped, telling us it passed through the review team before the site.kittykatz5k
Most regulars know that is the review process dude. It's just system wars that neglects it for alter motives.
i didnt know jeff was fired.
when did this happen?
6matt6
The 29th, now dubbed a gamespot holiday for us :P.
But yeah, the way he was fired is raising a LOT of questions, a LOT of rumors.

Well, many had access to the info, but I think this goes into a lie with a bit of research if it was a lie. True, I'm curious and questioning this thing myself, but a coupel of things in here bring some validity to it. Overall, I would put it in just a rumor for now.

Really? I thought only subscribers could change the color of their user name?
so he was fired for a bad kane and lynch review? or something surrounding the review.6matt6
Well, kinda. The real quesiton here is did the advratisments for kane and lynch on the site have anything to do with this. There's a lot saying that it did, and a lot saying there was foul play smoewhere. I personally find it fishy that Jeff would get fired for a review, when he's only the one presenting it.
Heren enjoy this comic on it:

I don't know why Jeff is fired if that's the case. Nevertheless, his professionalism as an editor in chief is really on the question tobegin with as his reviews shown. His reviews contradicts itself, his standard for reviewing games is contradicting, and his personnal bias for a certain genre and perhaps console is obvious. As a positive thinker, this is a good step for Gamespot. They chould find a new editor in chief who is as professional as Greg K. rather than a fanboy editor. Editor should be open and neutral, andprovides concreate, valid, and non-bias review. He did not resign, he was fired according to news, that tells you something.

Zaistev_basic
Yes, if you go by the news.
He was fired because the market branch of GS said that the reviews were reducing the amount of money they could get... IE the people who buy ad's are tired of there games getting mid range scores... they want GS to be another IGN.

[QUOTE="rimnet00"]I think its all horse crap. Jeff was the editor in chief. He was an awful journalist. froidniteAnd it took 11 years for Cnet to find that out:roll:
He hasn't been editor in chief for 11 years genious. It's only been since Greg K left over a year ago.

In fairness, Greg K. gave low reviews too. However, due to his good professionalism, he does not contradict himself and in most cases, respected him for doing so. He has no hint of fanboyism, just direct to the point of the games.
Thus, you cannot say that Jeff was fired because he gave low scores. He was fired because of LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM as an editor in chief.
Does anyone else find it funny that about 2 days ago this guy was the laughing stock of this site, but now it is as if he's sometype of God?Gunraidan
You do know people dont care that he got fired but care to know exactly why because so far were hearing that he was fired for reviewing a game thats been advertised on the site to low....which is unexceptable.

It is just absurd and false that he was fired because he gave low score to popular games. Greg K. and a lot of the gamespot reviewers gave low scores to not just Jeff. The big diffrence is that Jeff contradicts himself with his reviews, show a lot of hint of fanboyism, and bias in favor of his preference for games. It's all about lack of professionalim as an editor in chief. All of system wars forums whether your a lemmings, sheep, and cows, and perhaps hermits already seen his contradiction and we talked about it here. It is just a matter of time for gamespot to see how unprofessional Jeff is as an editor in chief.

Yeah.. I subscribed for a month about a year ago then cancelled because it was a waste of money. For some reason my name still shows up as Green. Oh well, I'm not complaining.

Yes... True, however things changed last year then Greg K left. They hired a suit to take his place. Things changed when he left and now the advetisment dollars are more important then there opinion on the Internet.

I really dont care all that much about jeff being fired,I never was a fan of his reviews. Its how and why he got fired that bugs me. If this was how and why he was fired.
