Okay, so XBOX 360 has full blown online, PS3 is a graphic and media powerhouse and the Wii is trying to get everyone on the planet to play the system.

The Wii isn't a fad. It's making a profit. It's not going away anytime soon.

Question: Do you guys truly WANT new people playing video games, people who wouldn't normally play games (casuals) or would you rather have a system made solely for your gaming needs.

My approach is simple. I'm turning casuals into hardcore. Some friends who weren't into gaming now are into alot and I'm even getting their parents into the act. My parents like games a lot and have fun.

I believe there is a game out there for ANYONE.

What are your thoughts?

I agree,

Of course people should care about what they find fun.  Who really gives a rats bottom about tech specs and sales, when it comes down to it, fun is all that realy DOES matter.  But it is kinda funny to see the Wii kicking the crap out of Sony's hyped up steroid laiden graphics whored blu ray player.

I'm all about bringing more people into gaming. However, I want my selfish desires met as well. So I say let the people have their Wii and I'll take my PS3 and 360 (Well, I'll have one by Christmas I hope).

Of course it is important to bring more people to gaming. The companies want to make more money, and why not? The exploding costs of current games need to be compensated. That's the reason many game designers around the world (David Jaffe) want to go independent, because they still want to make games but they cannot afford big games. A bigger base will come in handy, especially if it is casual!

I want it to suite my desires. I don't care if more people play but trying to make games appeal to everyone is what's ruining everything imo. The Wii has vast potential for deep challenging games that advance gameplay.... but all we've seen are cheap gimmicks to interest casuals. 360 shooters like Gears are the pinnacle of casual mass market appeal at the sacrifice of any deep gameplay. It's all graphics and style. Pressing the A button for every function is moronic and everything centers around 5 death animations that look awesome but are exactly the same thing over and over. Purposeful limiting of gameplay depth is like that is horrible and is the path most console games seem to be on. Halo:CE was great and showed potential for console shooters.... but they didn't understand what was special about it and have taken big steps in the wrong direction to appeal to casuals and limit skill gaps. PC and action games like DMC are the last refuge for people who want to play something with deep challending gameplay. Why do you think so many people have gone back to only playing 2d era classics?

I somehow don't emagine my parents playing Geow, RE, DMC, MGS, GOW, or GTA.

I want gaming machines built for me, not some Noob who missed intruduction to gaming 20 years ago.

Part of me is all excited about it, bigger market means cheaper games, MOre people means more money to be made which means more games.

Then there's the cynic in me.  If you look at the general public they are 3 things, tasteless, dumb, sheep (not the fanboys actual lemmings).  So if gaming was to hit the masses we would likely see 3 trends.  First is even more tasteless games that will sell for no reason (50 cent bulletproof I'm looking at you).  We would also see the dumbing down of loved titles to apeal to the mass public (madden will now only have 1 pass button so casual gamers don't get confused).  Last we won't see any increase of games being sold on there artistic mertis which will probably kills the creative independed game industry.

Considering Wii Sports, the best (or at least most fun) game on the Wii is pure, unadulterated "casual trash" I really don't have a problem.

You want new gamers to join in.. more gamers means a larger industry which means bigger, better, and more unique games for everyone.

There's room for the occasional Wii Sports player and the Halo 2 addict.

I think that if you are turning casuals into hardcore the nearest games shop should give you a commission, do you work there?

It's more of a grassroots operation really. Ease them into Tetris, DDR, Puzzle Quest, Harvest Moon, Sim City...graduate into some Kingdom Hearts, God of War, Splinter Cell...I'm also getting non RPG gamers into the RPG genre by showing them Secret of Mana and Paper Mario and I have a decent success rate.
