The (un)official PS3 hate faq.

So, before I get the flames o' plenty, know that i have, and truly enjoy, playing all three systems. I'm curious, however, why there is so much PS3 hate circulating on SW right now. I have a couple of theories.

1. Game selection: yeah, yeah, yeah. I dislike this argument, too, as I feel that between multiplats and decent exclusives, the PS3 justifies the entry price. HOWEVER, it is true that, compared to the 360, it does not have as strong of a library.

2. Arrogance at launch. We all know this one, and it still leaves a bad taste in gamer's mouths. A $600 price point, combined with a pretty weak launch lineup.

3. MGS4 getting GOTY. You've got to admit this has been quite a polarizing argument on System Wars. Some people are thrilled, others can barely stomach this game being awarded the best of 2008.

4. Previous SW Sony fanboys. My top theory. Any of you here during the PS2s unstoppable reign would have to admit that it was pretty rough for Ninty and MS fans at the time. I know this isn't fanboy wars, but payback, perhaps?

May main complaint about PS3 gamers is the ego of some of it's users, some of them still have a super computer mentality that leads them to believe they are so much above everyone else; regardless of the reality demonstrated in games.

That said it's the Wii that I dislike the most, demonstrating the success of casual shovel ware poses a risk to the support of the hardcore and mainstream gaming market.

I think its the last one (no. 4). After 2 gens of megaton pwnage, PS3 is getting a taste of their own medicine. I don't think it's all about the last gen fanboys though because the people shift between systems each gen. Ps3 is the underdog now, like the xbox was last gen. killerfist

I would disagree the PS 3 library is way better I think people are getting tired of shooters and what's the 360s best games shooters Halo, Gears 2 etc as far as library goes you are right the 360s library is full of games, but so is the wii quantity does not = Quality, also you have to take into consideration that the 360 came a year before, there's no way the PS 3 would build a bigger library without the year head start, Yet the PS 3 made a killer impact with two years.

How so would you call it arrogance it was the cheapest Blu Ray player and it cost Sony $800 for every PS 3 they sold I would consider that sacrifice, because for them to give gamers the best possible console and a built in blue ray player while costing them money for every console they made was a big chance and a sacrifice on their part

Jealousy will get a person no where if Metal Gear Solid 4 came out on the xbox 360 lemmings would all be jumping for joy and explaining to us why it deserved the GOTY but hey maybe there's next year for you guys, oh wait the lineup for PS 3 next year still looks better.

The only thing that winds me up is the fans over hyping the games. Yes all games get over hyped but the PS3 fans are the worst for it.

Look at MGSIV, you can't go into a single thread without some idiot claiming it's the end all of video games. No, it isn't.

Oh I completely agree about the reliability. You could argue the case though that while Microsoft is getting better at producing a better console this gen Sony has been offering less with each iteration of theirs by taking out backward support progressively through the generation.

Gamespot was a hardcore PC site, that realized they needed to get more customers, so they made this site into a multiconsole site. The editors weren't PS2 fans, they were PC guys. 1.The argument has no merit anymore. There are plenty good games coming out and the library is decent enough to warrant a purchase.

2.I would change that to "Arrogance BEFORE launch" THe actual launch was a disaster. one of my main annoyances with the cow populace is their behavior the week before the 360 launched.I know most of the cows that post here weren't here when that happened but the attitudes of the cows that replaced those people just continued where they left off. If anybody wonders why people are so eager to kick Sony when they are down need only look to those days and wince.

3. MGS IV deserved GOTY. There are other things it won that I'm not particularly convinced it should have.

4. See number 2. When you spit on people while they are down, expect no sympathy when it happens to you in a weak moment.

1) many of the cows have converted to lemmings... or manticore. if you paid any attention to usernames you'd know that.

2) not too many people stick with the same account over the years. i've been here for ages, make new accounts all the time.

so yeah, stop acting like you know everything, and that new accounts mean we have no history here. alt accounts are perfectly legit here, and are used all the time.

Cows ruled SW last gen and they were relentless. Whenever Xbox fans got a great game, cows would bring up sales and point out how the Xbox would never catch the PS2 in sales.

I remember "This Gen is Already Over. PS2 Won" being a popular phrase back then. I made an account back in 2003, posted for about a month, and then left. Cows made this place unbearable for anyone who didn't worship Sony.

I'm a manticore who favors the x360 and I'm happy to give back some of the love cows gave everyone last gen. :)

Just look at this thread that everyone is posting in, and then look through 3 pages of SW threads and see what Cows put up with on a regular basis when visiting SW's.

There maybe a few RRod threads or this or that about the 360, but the amount of hate here toward the ps3 is just crazy. And lemmings wonder why ps3 guys hype ps3 games? Heck if anything most are just trying to prove after the 10millionth post of NO GOOD PS3 games that there is good or even great ps3 games. I mean for real, the ps3 has sold just aswell as the 360 for its time on the market but yet the ps3 is a failure thread comes by 3 or 4 to the page here at SW's lol. And then to see someone hate on a ps3 game and the thread goes on for like 26 pages, but then I see a Gears 2 thread get locked down after about 18 posts about its sloppy online play. Here on SW's the cow is definitly the minority along with the sheeps, and since the sheep are just asleep then its up to the cows to open up and try to defend its console :)

And the hating isn't just here on SW's the media is trying to bury Sony for whatever reason. I mean the day the ps3 launched news channels were complaining how expensive it was. But then 2 months later the iphone launched for $400 or $600 for a PHONE, and they were all over it and loving it lol. So as far as most arguments I see against the ps3, they fall in that insane catagory with the iphone being loved lol. Heck like Gametrailers bringing up LBP's online issues and how sony fails online, but yet don't talk about the failure of Gears 2 online play and glitches, on the almighty xbL. Most arguments are contradictory to what is actually going on in the industry, they just love to point out Sony's and the ps3's faults and forgets about the others in the industry.

You hit the nail on the head.

The "real world" is looking at how much marketshare (and influence) Sony has lost this gen. There is just no positivie way to spin that. In fact, the only positive Sony & cows find is that blu-ray won the HD battle.

Heck only a fool would think that a year headstart wouldn't have had a issue on the market share since last gen lol. Unless releasing a low standard unit for half the cost like the wii. Well get used to a non gaming power house putting out exclusives that get crowned best graphics, I think more AAA titles here on out on a regular basis all the while riding in 3rd place with anywhere 4-8million least units on the market than the power house of the 360 riding the tails of just being cheap and hit its peak in 1 1/2 years on the market lol. I'll say it now, I don't mind the ps3 being in 3rd, especially when a half price unit has a hard time beating its rival console for yearly sales in the World lol. Really that should be in headlines, thats more of a story for a higher priced console still going jab to jab in sales than just a story of how a lower price console sells better. The Wii makes that argument irrelevant and silly.It came out within 2 days of the PS3 and the one year headstart didn't affect it at all.

And the hating isn't just here on SW's the media is trying to bury Sony for whatever reason. I mean the day the ps3 launched news channels were complaining how expensive it was. But then 2 months later the iphone launched for $400 or $600 for a PHONE, and they were all over it and loving it lol. So as far as most arguments I see against the ps3, they fall in that insane catagory with the iphone being loved lol. Heck like Gametrailers bringing up LBP's online issues and how sony fails online, but yet don't talk about the failure of Gears 2 online play and glitches, on the almighty xbL. Most arguments are contradictory to what is actually going on in the industry, they just love to point out Sony's and the ps3's faults and forgets about the others in the industry.

the reason there are so few cows these days is because many cows have smelled the coffee so to speak. you can only try to support a sinking ship for so long before the reality of the situation dawns upon you.

Dreamcast had great games Grey. just not many. same as PS3. it's not a great gaming machine because Sony doesn't seem to give 2 ***** about gamers this gen.. or you'd likely have a hell of a lot more games, right? getting tough having a good discussion with hardcore cows these days, it's always talking points and immediate defense. and immediate, and old / tired defense.

The PS3 has a smaller install base in the United States than the 360 in its third year of a ten year life cycle. That doesn't mean the sky is falling and the PS3 is doomed.

Things to be worried about if you're a Sony hater going into the future:

- SCEA continues to develop and publish exclusives designed to tap the PS3's potential. And more importantly, they just look like good games.

- PS3 appears to have very strong third party support going into the future, with very few third party 360 exclusives or even 360/PC multiplats.

- PS3 is gaining ground once more in Japan. WKC. Final Fantasy XIII is being released exclusively there, and that will be huge.

- Costs of production are falling.

I don't really get the Sony hate, but it's pervasive. Even if Sony was arrogant in 2006, I don't understand the complaints about the $499 and $599 price points. Sony took a risk, created an all-in-one device and sold it to the consumers at a *huge loss* in 2006. The PS3 wasn't for everyone, but the 20 gb was definitely a steal at $499 in 2006... something that cost nearly $800 to make. No one was forcing people to upgrade right away, certainly not Sony. They continued to support the PS2 with hit titles like God of War 2 in 2007. Unlike Nintendo and Microsoft, which jumped ship from their Gamecube and Xbox as soon as possible. I'm still waiting for Super Paper Mario to be released for my Gamecube.

First of all I don't "Hate" any system or company that makes them. I am verydisappointedwith the PS3 because I do believe it has weak library. It's like I can buy almost all the games for it on a cheaper,comparable system. The exclusives are a mixed bag as well; some are hot, some are not.

In regards to the fanboyism for this console is is truly pervasive, at least on GS. I don't mind reasonable arguments for or against a console, but these people are just delusional. But of course this applies to all fanboys, not just COWS.

The bottom line is that I will buy a PS3 someday, but once the price has taken a major drop. As is, right now, the PS3 is worth about $299 for me.
