Earlier today, Nintendo announced they are localizing the first FE game, released in 1990 for the NES, for the very first time in North America.

It is going to be $5.99 for the digital edition. The physical edition is $49.99 and includes: Game Pak art piece, a replica game box with a localized version of the original NES instruction manual, protective sleeve and world map, a Mini Nintendo Power retro collectible, hardbound 222 page Legacy of Archanea deluxe art book, and game download code.

Pre-orders opened at GameStop and seem to be sold out for now:

It should be mentioned that this year is the 30th anniversary of the Fire Emblem series, but Fire Emblem does not have the profile that Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda have.

Saw that earlier and thought that was pretty cool. I’ve only played about 4 of the Fire Emblem games on the various Nintendo systems but never played this one before. I’ll definitely download the digital version just to check it out.

Going by some of the responses I have to wonder how many true gamers post here. We get a never before localized game in the series that started it all for a venerable franchise and that's your take?

I have more respect for PC gamers who know the value of timeless classics than I do for modern console warriors. wow...

I'm interested in the $6 version. Not much of a collector of stuff that comes in the physical version.

Kay.

First thing that's weird is that they decided the first Fire Emblem of all games should be buyable. No other NES games.

Second weird thing is to sell a fucking NES game for 50 bucks. Oh, you get some paper with it, so it's totally worth it.

What the **** is up with Nintendo lately? Ever since they noticed they can stop putting effort into shit and get lots of money anyway, they've been really boring. If it continues, I really hope people stop buying Nintendo products again.

So if we don't praise Nintendo for re-releasing a game from 30yrs ago we're not true gamers lol.

I agree with the YouTube comments. Should have done this with Genealogy or Binding Blade instead. We already had a remake get localized here.

Genealogy would have been a great game to go with considering Three Houses' similarities to it. And Roy is still incredibly popular in the west but never had a game here.

Nintendo stuff is well worth it in physical, they hold a lot of value. Game & Watch, NES branded stuff, NES, GameCube and Wii U games I think especially.

This should have been in the NES app, plus what is up with the limited release (again Nintendo?).

As some other posters said we actually DID get that game in the west on the DS in the form of a remake, played it too and it's pretty good.

I love FE but I'm staying away from this one.

Not everyone actually played the first Fire Emblem mind you. My first Fire Emblem game was Sacred Stones on Gameboy Advance, I'm curious what the first game is all about however. I'll wait for reviews before buying it. Don't know about you Daily, I play games that interest me and don't care what or where it comes.

Yeah I agree with a lot of these points. While I am excited for it, it should have been in the NES game collection. But since it's the 30th anniversary, I guess they are going to milk the fans. However, this new release of FE does include quality of life improvements, such as being able to fast forward through cutscenes, dialogue and battle animations. You also can save at any time. So they did tweak the game even just a little bit. The 2009 remake of FE1 was not well known and did not sell well, and is stuck on a handheld system from 12 years ago, so yeah I think it's a bit justified.

I must note that the re-releases are high right now.... September had the Mario 3D Allstars collection, October has Pikmin 3 Deluxe, November has Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, December has Fire Emblem re-release and February has the port of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury coming. It'll be a lazy cashgrab couple of months for Nintendo with only one actual new game coming to Switch.

I agree 100%. I just don't have a designated area I can store it and keep my daughter from destroying it. I used to collect games and memorabilia, but now it is in boxes to keep them safe.

Nice. I hope Mystery of the Emblem (1994), Genealogy of the Holy War (1996) and Thracia 776 (1999) will follow suit.

Technically it's true, because the DS version is a remake of the original. The NES game has never been released in the US before.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl under the Masterpieces section, you can play the demo version of the original Fire Emblem for five minutes. This version has the text in English and was released before the DS remake.

Interesting, but a demo isn't the full game.

I mean, this is awesome and a great sign of things to come, but I'll probably purchase a limited time actual NES game cart instead :)

I like collecting homebrew and limited prints for older consoles even if it's more expensive. Haters can hate. I've got a list a mile long of all those types of games I want.

I think someday having a library of games like that will be awesome to look back on. Definitely not a collection most would have.
