The Vita is NOT a technological marvel!!

It's an iphone 4s with 2 extra cores, its not way ahead of anything, the tegra 3 phones coming very soon will blow it out the water, so shut up saying it's a portable ps3..

Who cares what smartphones will come out soon? They're ever evolving, and each new model is only ever new for six months to a year before being rendered obsolete. Then there's the fact that the actual games being released are typically of dubious quality, as there is nearly no quality control going on in the Android market or the App Store.

For right now, the Vita is an impressive device. It will seem impressive until the next wave of phones comes along, but even then those will still be pushing mostly $5 casual game experiences with touch and swipe controls. The target demographic for the Vita is clearly different. Or, at the very least, the intended experience is different.

another thing, it has 2 great analog sticks. It's naturally going to get games that the 3ds and iphones won't get because of that. Also it's beefier than the 3ds, it's really the Technophiles handheld.

My god i hate smartphones games and people that say their gamers just because they play Angry Birds..

The Tegra 3 has a hard enough time equaling the dual core SGX543MP2 GPU in the iPhone 4 and iPad 2. The Vita has a quad core SGX543MP4+ GPU.

Nvidia better get Tegra 4 out soon, especially with the iPad 3 on the way, which I predict will probably have a quad core ARM a la the Vita, but probably just a clock bump on the SGX543MP2.

No one knows the Vita's clockspeeds. It also has a quad core mobile GPU and dedicated VRAM. It's OS footprint will presumably be smaller as a dedicated handheld. Besides the main thing is...

Even if phone hardware becomes more powerful, it will always have the advantage of being dedicated gaming hardware with fixed specs and low-level graphics API's.

Who's been saying it's a portable ps3? But it does have buttons, which is a huge advantage. No matter how powerful the hardware in a device is, it's only as good for gaming as the controls are.Inconsistancy

^^ i have a few games on my droid...and i can hardly stand to play them i usually end up uninstalling them after a couple of tries...i cant stand touch screen...its why god made analogue sticks and buttons

Phone gaming is crap no matter how powerful they become. Nobody thats a serious gamer prefers touch controls over sticks and buttons. Phone gaming is fun for a while but wears off very fast, then people start using their phone for what it was meant for.....Phone calls and messaging.
