in terms of a decision-making/consequence type of game

to be fair, the games are more heavy rain than mass effect, and the decisions carrying over from the previous game appear to have some real weight to them. also, unlike mass effect, the limited time given to make snappy decisions keeps you on your toes during conversations, so no sitting back with a controller asking the same ol' questions staring at a blank commander shepperd face. I think when its all said and done, the choice/consequence system will be far better than what mass effect offers (even though its all really illusion of choice, the walking dead just colors the experience better imo) and it will carry decisions over the course of 5 games instead of 3

two different types of games. walking dead is a 2 hour episodic adventure game. mass effect is a 35 hour long tps/rpg. there are a lot more decisions and choices that they devs have to juggle in mass effect. they are both awesome games in their own ways

I actually felt the choices in Walking dead Ep:2 really didn't reflect my choices in Episode 1 very well. I felt like one of the characters no matter how buddy/buddy you were with him in the first episode, was just a total jerk regardless if you didn't back him up in the big choice of the chapter 2 scenario. It's a shame because I like them just their choice had to be the most knee-jerk stupidity I've ever seen. But Nooo~ now it's all "SCREW YOU!" Nice game, I pray Telltale doesn't take nearly 3 months to release this time....jerks telling me they were going to be on a monthly release scheduel.

Mass Effect was renowned for it's choices? Lol. The Mass Effect series in a nutshell: Choice A: Be a nice guy and take the diplomatic road. Have alien sex. Choice B: Be absolute dick and take the my-fists-are-doing-the-talking-now road. Refuse alien sex for regular human sex. Special note: Don't like a choice you made? Reload last save and try the other one. The least they could have done was made it impossible to take a choice back.

I'm pretty sure I know what choice you're talking about and I agree, that could have been handled better.

Mass Effects choices are never very deep anyway. Also you're comparing an episodic adventure to a 90+ hour trilogy

Walking Dead is amazing, the beggining to episode 2 is gut wrenchingly good, but it's pushing it to call WD a game. It's an interactive story. getyeryayasout

would you consier heavy rain a game?

Well that's not really surprising. Mass Effect's choices system has largely been cosmetic, for characterisation of playthroughs. Commander Shepard is husk of a character, reflective of how they've made their character system function. Not to say there aren't consequential choices in ME series - there sure as hell are, they're just few and far in between, and that largely comes down to game structure. Difference here is that TT with The Walking Dead have a bit more freedom to experiment, Bioware has the weight of shareholder expectations on their shoulders, and one of the most outrageous fanbases in gaming.

If there's win and fail states and or a rule set, then we can call it a game.

I am a fan of Mass Effect 1. Not so much ME2. ME3, I still have not finished and two people managed to spoil it for me already in a major way. At this point, I don't really care too much for ME3. Not liking the gameplay so much. As for The Walking Dead, I'm a big fan of the TV show, and the games are great. I might be in the minority but I love adventure games. Definitely right up there with Gemini Rue, To the Moon, Gray Matter, and Another World. I know I missed some other great ones. With that said, I am looking forward to future episodic content.

What about both games are great, and comparing them is unnecessary.
