Its just some shader effects, not terribly impressive. Like so many games from generations before it, the water is simply still just a flat surface, completely unrealistic. I'd love to see some real water effect but looks like thats yet another graphical generation away that the least.CorvinHave you seriously seen all the gameplay/ trailers? That water isn't just in a flat surface from what I've seen anyways.

water isn't flat in bioshock thats why its unique, watch the new video to see.

It's just water. What's the big deal? Next thing you know they'll add a guy peeing into the river and you'll marvel at the yellow stream going downstream.Zhengi
The water is an important element on this game, why not make it cool?

Which video shows me the impressive water? Certainly not the one the TC posted.. that water is completely unimpressive, like I said just fancy shaders on a what seems to be a completely flat surface.

Plus it creates atmosphere. Atmosphere is cool.[QUOTE="Zhengi"]It's just water. What's the big deal? Next thing you know they'll add a guy peeing into the river and you'll marvel at the yellow stream going downstream.tegovoltio

How does water play a part in the game? Not too sure about the story or play elements. For water that has as many ripples as this water there should be at least some sort of ripple effect again the edges, but there is not. Its just a shader effect on a flat, non-interactive surface. Not impressive for next-gen, sorry.
EDIT: If you want go ahead and point out that this is a work in progress. Don't expect this anomaly to change in the final version.

I dunno if this is the same one but look: http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/features/waterfeature/watervideo.html
If it is how can you say it's just some fancy shaders? And flatsurface what are you saying look at the one going down the stairs and the last parts it looks pretty good to me, not that many past games have water that doesn't looks like gel.

He is correct on the fact that it is a flat texture cause if you look at the sides there should be some curves in the water but there isnt. Its the same with Lair, the water is a flat texture and when you blow up a boat or something you can see the water ripples but the fact that its just a triggered animation and not real water effects.
Though I do think the water looks really good and its defniatly going to add a lot of atmosphere even if it is just a flat texture, plus you dont see people complaining about bump mapping or any other graphical trick.

I know exactly what he is saying but saying that it look unimpressive just because of some ''ripple'' it too much besides one expects to see that when it's triggered due to movement.

I've been around the block a few times when it comes to video games and graphics. To see water effects completely non- evolved except for some shaders even in "next-gen" is completely unimpressive to me. Will it be a cool game? Looks like it. Is the water really all that impressive? Not in the least. Even Doom had flat liquid effect, they just didn't have shaders back then to add some flimsy illusion of ripples and depth. Shaders are just not enough to impress me anymore.

Well to me it's not just the shaders other effects take place that look good to me like when it's going down the stairs, well there's a reason it says work in progress, according to the devs. the guys that worked on the water messed around a lot with it so I still expect some more effects.

Water going down the stairs = shader effects.
Corvins obession with the water is adorable :lol:NextGenNow
As someone who has a 360 and frequently takes the side of 360 fanboys I feel obligated to offset my bias with a healthy dose of skepticism towards a game that is appearing on my console of choice.
EDIT: Besides... I'm not wrong.

Although it's oil, not water, it would be pretty cool to see real-time/in-game. http://www.airtightgames.com/currentproject.html

farcry had moving water 3 years ago, its nothing new. the wave rolling onto the beach in farcry look amazing even today
now i may get flamed but what the hell i think that the water effects surpass crysis water, because the water in crysis looks to artificial, and oh yeah is that bioshock trailer running on the pc or xbox 360???d_40I somewhat agree, Crysis's Water was too...bright, for lack of a better word.
well hardly beats farcry water 3 years later
imprezawrx500
Actually BY FAR the best water in any game is in Far Cry Predator on 360, and now Bioshock, 360 is a BEAST
uh mediocrity? Time to watch Crysis vids.NobuoMusicMaker
Crysis water is amazing, but this is as good and Far Cry Predator even better
