I just see it as Microsoft trying to succeed in the console market and they had to release the 360 being the PS3 was soon to be released and the original xbox wouldn't have stood a chance.I love gaming in general so the more the better.Also Sony has far to many resources to get pushed out of the console gaming business.

The way you see things is well....pretty wrong. I'll give you a few reasons why the links you drew are incorrect. 1) Microsoft has NOTHING to do with the dynamic rate PC hardware evolves at. That is due to Nvidia, ATI, Intel, AMD etc. Microsoft make SOFTWARE for the PC, not HARDWARE. To attribute this to them is like attributing the PS3's lack of rumble to Square Enix.
2) Microsoft makes OS for PCs. They make these every 3-4 years. Not every year. You don't even need the new OS to run most modern games. 3) You do not need to upgrade your PC every year to run games on max. I can still run Oblivion maxxed with Qarl's texture pack with my rig from mid 2005. 4) Microsoft doesn't have a monopoly over any market. It still has competition with Mac and Linux in the OS market, monopoly means 100% control.
5) Microsoft is far from the first to release upgraded versions of consoles.
6) Consoles are inevitably going to end up like PCs anyway. They emulate them in software, hardware, features and design. Look at what consoles are striving for at the moment; universal online, high resolutions, OS compatability, media support, all things PC was doing decades ago.

You do realize that there has been numerous revisions to the PS2? In fact there were 3 different models before it was ever launched in the US with the original not having no DVD playback. Japanese gamers had to utilize specials files on their memory card to equip such a feature.
SONY put out a new PS2 nearly every 2 months. But Cows are making such a big deal over the 360 simply because theu hate microsoft.

The PS2 also underwent a hardware refresh... :? but it didnt add anything new. It just made it smaller and cheaper.

Three of the original PS2 launch models were only sold in Japan, and lack the Dev9 expansion port of current PS2 models. These versions were SCPH-10000, SCPH-15000 and SCPH-18000. These included a PCMCIA slot instead of the Expansion Bay (DEV9) port of newer models. A PCMCIA to Dev9 adapter was made available for these models. The past PS2 hardware revisions added:
Native DVD playback Built in Remote sensor Quieter fan Built in Ethernet port Modem (some regions) Expansion bay instead of PCMCIA slots (HDD) Add DVD +/- R/RW playback
They also had several downgrades including removal of the expansion bay and USB 1.1 ports. Geez im a lemming and even I know more about the PS2 than these fanboys @.@
