Iv'e played games since the ZX-81 'til now. Since then iv'e owned several home computers and several consoles. Throughout gamings brief history everything has evolved, least of which the way we control games, that is, until now so the Wii really is next gen. Graphics will always get better, even the xbox and ps3 have a long way to go before they are 'photorealistic' so where does the wii figure on a graphical level? pretty good but not brilliant which is acceptable so why all the naysayers? because it represents a turning point in gaming and i have to admit that for all the innovation that has arrived with the Wii there is a whole new brand of games that are aimed at non gamers that is damaging to traditional gaming and game direction. So how would things go in an ideal world? I would love all the non gamers to lose interest leaving us with new technology for real developers to make proper games with! Alas for now i say the Wii is ok and sometimes great(Mario Kart,Metroid).

I wouldn't consider myself a naysayer, i just believe there is so much more they could do with the Wii. So far the only games I'd be interested in buying for the Wii would be Madworld and maybe Metroid. I'm far from a big fan of standing in a room waving my arms around with a remote. I play games for fun not exercise, i get enough of that. I agree with non-gamers just disappearing..or maybe just getting teleported to a world far FAR away?..Leave the Devs to use the technology at hand and maybe we'd get more great games like Assassins Creed etc,..

The thing about the wii is that it has SO much potential, but the way its marketed towards the non gamers is what IMO kills it. Next to the virtual boy, the Wii is Nintendo's worst console. I just wish nintendo would have at least beefed up the hardware with the wii and improved the online. Imagine a zelda game with Ps3 level graphics, or a super smash bros with xbox online. Sure Galaxy, brawl and metroid are good, but whats next after you beat those games?

Yeah I agree, the Wii has so much potential and the developers just want to make games fast for earn easy money. Nintendo has been so far the only one that has know how to do great games with the Wii. Right now this year I only plan to buy Metroid Prime Trilogy, there isn't any other game that seems interesting for me in the Wii.

Alot could be done with the Wii but the games really are not pushing the system. If you look at the PS3 and 360 the games for those systems which include multiplats the quality far out weighs those that are on the Wii. The Wii has some good games but really there isnt that many. I think one feature the Wii lacks in general is a online play on the same level as what has become standard in recent years.

If innovation is making a tv remote the new standard controller for video games, then we are truly moving backwards. Its less accurate and fast than the sega genesis controller. With modern controllers and the KB/m there is a huge difference between a pro and a noob because there is so much accuracy and depth for possibilities to play better than others. The Wii mote is sloppy and slow, and you will never see anyone using it at a proper serious big money gaming tournament, which again, makes it not innovative.

I love the Wii and all. But not a lot of developers make good games for it. Even some games that are coming out don't even look that good. Look at Muramasa, the graphics are best for the DS. Add 30x those graphics and you got a 2D HD game for the PS3 and 360 like BlazBlue. Even motion controls are thrown away on that game.

First of all except for the virtural boy no Nintendo console is worst than the Gamecube (yeah the one with teh grafix). Now back to teh grafix. Imagine Nintendo giving away a console for free. That is what Sony is doing just to get people to pick it up. Imagine if most of the X-box 360's games wern't also PS3 games, then we wouldn't see grudge match forum wars between the two group of fanboys.

When I got my Xbox 360 at launch I was disappointed. Gaming just felt stale to me. As a kid growing up in the 90's, I thought games would evolve into virtual reality.. and you'd move the controller instead of simply pressing buttons. When playing Starwing, I'd move the controller like I was steering the Arwing. So when I got my Wii I was extremely excited and it didn't disappoint. Gaming felt fresh again. While the Wiimote has disappointed me in terms of precision it doesn't matter. Wii is the first step in the right direction.

i agree that it's a step in the right direction but I also think that the tech wasn't ready. They shouldn't have made that step until the controls could be more precise. Theory vs. Reality and Reality always wins

No ****!!! No "hard core gamer" would be cought dead using a Nintendo console in one of there Religulous assemblies because Nintendo is for teh kiddies. I see a new argument up there. It is the Wii is taking my skillz away. Just because your mom, your girlfriend, or your grandma beat you in Wii boxing doesn't mean the controls suck. The Wii is one of two non-PC systems that can do RTS of any kind because of the pointing the wii-mote does.

I have to agree with this. i'm in my 30's and gaming was indeed getting pretty stale. I mean sure they looked better but i was pretty much still playing them the same way i had for over a decade. The wii really caught my attention and is a great step in the right direction. One that i don't think Sony and MS would have done so soon without the wii leading the way. I will say that the wii has more potential that developers aren't taking advantage of. hopefully they will be able to use it more and better with motionplus. (tigerwoods and grandslam tennis are promising but give me a good sword fighting game)

The Wii:

Pros: Motion Plus(Could go either way, but I actually find it interesting and a step forward for all of gaming)

Cons: Horrible graphics, Horrible online gaming, Caters way more for the casual market, All the upcoming great games are part 10 and 20 to Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong etc(I wouldn't mind if Nintendo started making new IP's), Original Controller was bad, Overpriced, Friend system is horrible and the list goes on.

I hate to sound like a fanboy of the bigger/better consoles, but I was really let down by the Wii. As of right now it hasn't even touched Xbox 1 like graphics. If they could've implemented a new gpu which was on the level of an ATI x800 which has been an old dead card for a few years now maybe it would have games on par with Doom 3 and COD2 on the xbox. You can say if it did it would be another "hd console clone", but in the end your statement would be BS. It has nothing to do about "HD" and everything to do with the systems overall power.

Maybe the Wii2 will fix everything, but as of right now my Wii will continue to sit in dust until new IP's come out that are some what graphically impressive and also a blast to play.

What it is :? , it's the console marketed at non gamers. Someone has to expand the industry but i just wish they would have more gamer games in the process, the Wii is not bad it's just marketed to other types of people than us and has lleft developers baffled as how to best sell good games on it

i think nintendo's held up it's part. i mean all it's core franchises are accounted for on the wii. blame the 3rd party for failing to meet the needs of the self titled "hardcore".

Duh? we all know this.

but the PS2 had an amazing library of great games as well, the Wii's library is weak even compared to the PS3 and 360 let alone the PS2, this is the opinion of big and known rating websites, ...but who cares about gaming websites blah blah your opinion is all that matters blah blah, yeah, but that's not how arguments go here in SW.

That it and the same thing I have been saying for years. Has kids we were raised knowing that virtual reality was around the corner. It was in our cartoons, comic books and movies. Then you get this gen and nothing changed the PS3 and 360 are the same thing we played last gen with better graphics. Then you have the Wii, I found myself really enjoying the game system when playing Zelda:TP. There is a scene where your on a house and orks attack you on house back. You must swing the Wiimote right and left to attack back. It was the most fun I had gaming in a very long time. I found myself standing up and way over swinging. Who cares I had a blast. Then you go back to gaming with a normal control and you feel like part of the gaming is gone. I think younger gamers don't understand this because they have not been gaming for years on end waiting for the tech to get better.

If someone who has never played games in there life, beat me, a gamer for 20 years, in a game, then the controls ARE so simple and cheesey that there is no point in playing it. Your first point is also wrong, the reason Wii motes are not used for serious e-sport games has absolutly nothing to do with how "cool" nintendo is seen as, if the Wii mote gave a pro even a slight advantage to win that big check or that sponsor money, they would all be using them. And last but not least, name me a quality dev that is making a quality RTS for the Wii. Got any more silly lines for me to destroy?

there is lots of potential there but after playing the big blockbuster ps3 and 360 games going to the wii is like watching the transformers(or whatever big summer blockbuster) and then leaving the theatre and going to see a puppet show, sure it's fun but not like the "real" show you just saw in the theatre

You pretty much just said that tournament players only care about the money, maybe a stagnant gaming industry is better for them because there would be less new things to learn to win and get the money.

This all comes down to, in my opinion, the capabilities the Wii has to make us feel more immersed in the gameplay, deliver better games with better graphics as well as a more sensitive remote and maybe i'll start supporting waving my arms around like a monkey in mating season. I'm not a fanboy i just feel as if developers aren't trying hard enough or stretching the limits of the Wii..therefore, no games that have exceeded my expectations except maybe Madworld have come out for the Wii.
