The Wii is a terrible primary system.

Of all the things I could picture doing after working a 10-12 hour day, is go home and flail my arms around like an idiot.  Don't get me wrong, there are a COUPLE fun games (Yes, I own a Wii), but I feel SORRY for anyone whose primary system is a Wii.  Apparently I've got a rare grey system, because that's what color my Wii is from all the dust.  The one game I DID enjoy (Warioware) was butchered out of widescreen, so I had to stretch the image on my TV.  Not exactly what I could call a "fun" experience.

Lame flamebait this be.

not everyone works 10-12 hours. I work 8 and i've no problems with playing the wii. when i play wii tennis I don't flail. I swing. ppl that just flail suck just like if they flailed while playing real tennis. also you realize that there are ppl that go to the gym after work. it's quite common these days. as for warioware, I have a widescreen HDTV and it looked fine.

I strongly disagree. Simply put. If there are games on it that people like then why not. Then again, I don't regard any console primary/secondary.

Thee Wii is my primary console. The games on Xbox 360 and PS3 don't interest me at all - yet. I guess the PS3 will have game sthat interest me eventually. I like the Wii, a lot. :)

I havn't played a game yet, that really requires more than a flick of the wrists anyways...including any of the Wii Sports games, SSX, Splinter Cell, Zelda...MAYBE Madden made me.  Oh well, back to "flailing" away!

That post fails simply for using the pathetic old "flailing arms" argument. That trash has ben used and disproved so many times it's not even funny to see it anymore.

Wow. So, you complain about flailing your arms like an idiot, which is something you don't do in the majority of games, and you say that the most fun that thy've had is the game where you flail your arms around the most? :?

indeed, why waste the time with a wrist flick when you can play essentially the same game on another console and use like a thumbstick. If you aint gonna do the whole animation, then the gimmick is useless imo

What about WarioWare in widescreen? Works fine for me.

As for "flailing" about, I have yet to do this particular move, as most games require little movement if you don't want to.

I don't use the Wii as a primary system, but that is more due to a smaller game library than anything related to having to actually move to play it.

Yes the game fills your "wide screen"... all the mingames, the world map, and the cut scenes are stretched.

Playing games is a waste of energy, in strict terms... or a waste of time. Games are all about fun and experience. Wii Tennis is funny when you are actually mimicking the actual tennis movements. Otherwise, it's a shallow pale of a real tennis videogame.

You must hate Wii Sports. While we don't have to move like we're actually playing tennis, bowling, etc., that's where all the fun comes it. It's like we're actually playing it...

So if I was going to work out, I would go to the track and jog. (which I do). I'm saying that for me, I like to relax with a good video game. I don't want to have to be active to enjoy it. (with exceptions of some games that are fun BECAUSE they are active, but that requires a certain mood). Also, holding the Wiimote constantly towards the television on some games causes wrist pain (carpal tunnel).

I agree. I also happen to play actual tennis, and love it. There's a time and a place for it, though. Sitting down to unwind and play a game is not one of them.

I am not overly fond of it but when playing it with friends or family members I do get a kick out of it. I have never enjoyed playing it alone.

It's not just a horrible primary system, it's also a horrible system in general. For a real secondary system im going to buy 360 Core off ebay and a Memory Card, nothing warrants a pathetic Wii purchase.

As everyone has said before me u don't have to flail ur arms around like an idiot, and too, if u would pick some games that u really don't have to do that with, like:

 trauma center: SO

 CoD3, Redsteel

 elibits

 MOH:vanguard

 Zelda:TP

 Excite Truck

Sonic and the secret rings

and so many more that has in no way that u flail around ur arms... u just didn't look hard enough...

if thats how you look at it.  if by that mean that you're interested in party games, minigames, and a few select first party franchises thrown in, then sure.

But what i noticed is that what seems to interest the sheep always seems to be select games, because the wii certainly does not dominate any genres.

I wonder where you got that list from. Most of those games are terrible. The few on there that I am interested will be fun, but perhaps only on the weekend or when I have extra time. Nintendo Wii- the ultimate casual experience.

I just noticed that while many of the games on the Wii do look a bit "chibi", kids would probably not play those games because of the art styl-e (kids want to look mature) and because it'd be too difficult. An example would be Harvest Moon. I can't see a six-year old building a farm, getting married, etc. >_>

I wonder where you got that list from. Most of those games are terrible. The few on there that I am interested will be fun, but perhaps only on the weekend or when I have extra time. Nintendo Wii- the ultimate casual experience.subject117

How would you know if they are terrible if you have not actually played them?

"Flail your arms?" Politicians don't use rhetoric this tired and flimsy. And the Wii is only a terrible primary system if it doesn't offer what you want. But for many, it has more than enough. Stop trying to see the Wii as a competitor to your precious "next-gen" powerhouses and see it as an alternative/compliment. That's all it is. Realize that not everyone wants to have the same gaming experience as you.

[QUOTE="subject117"][QUOTE="Ontain"]not everyone works 10-12 hours.

So if I was going to work out, I would go to the track and jog. (which I do). I'm saying that for me, I like to relax with a good video game. I don't want to have to be active to enjoy it. (with exceptions of some games that are fun BECAUSE they are active, but that requires a certain mood). Also, holding the Wiimote constantly towards the television on some games causes wrist pain (carpal tunnel).

carpal tunnel is more likely from conventional controllers than the wii mote. the wii mote is much more ergonomic. if you're using large musle groups like you claim that wouldn't cause CT. but button pressing can. as for constantly holding toward the tv. that's only some games. so don't play those then. you have the option to play games that don't require the same level of motion.

You know things are less-than-perfect in Nintyville when sheep have to justify their purchase with games like Red Steel, Blackhand Edition, and Excite Truck...

I justified my purchase of my Wii with Wiisports and Twilight Princess. The fact that Super Paper Mario come out in a few days is just icing on the cake.

Okay, so out of the unreleased games, I've only played Mario Galaxy and Project HAMMER. Some of the other games are games that look appealing (paper mario, Fire Emblem, and Dragon Quest). Most of the games out you mentioned are terrible. Godfather, Red Steel, Sonic, SSX Blur (HAHAHA), Monkey ball main game(mini games are fun), are terrible.

Hence the topic saying the Wii is a terrible primary system. It's okay as a third system.

Right, but I'm speaking specifically about the games where you do have to point the entire time. (Zelda)
