I want a solid definition of next gen(now curent gen). According to most MS and Sony Fanboys it is a huge jump in graphics and power. Nintendo would say an updated version of the current generation. Nintendo Wii iscurrent-gengen, because it is a huge change in gameplay, and it does update the graphics, just not as much as the 360 and PS3. To people who say the wii is the GC 1.5, I could say the same thing about the 360 and PS3. " all the 360 is is an Xbox with better grahics and a bigger hardrive. All the PS3 is a PS2 with better graphics. It even uses the same controller, and look it has no rumble.". The Wii iscurrent Gen. It takes last-gen and updates it. It changes gameplay, updates graphics(just not to the extreme like Sony and MS) and even throws in (even if it is really small) a hard drive. I've been hearing tons of crap on this topic, so I thought I release all of my frustration on here.bigcalkenobi
No just no. There is NO hard disk drive in the wii. It has flash memory.
I rather have a current gen since next gen isn't now.
Unlike You superheroes i am stuck in the present, meaning next gen is just something i can look forward to but not have.
Well i can have it, just not yet.
And now is all all there is to me.
But i guess the future and past we see now are part of the present, in the way we can see them and use them.
So i may not have it, but want it.
If i want it to be part of the present i need to change the present.
But change takes time.
So i'm kind of doomed.
Why did You make me experience this! :'(

I second that
It is quite larger, but thats all the other consoles did. They didn't even change their controller much. Sony didn't at all, and the Xbox 360s was changed a little bit.bigcalkenobi
Ok, great, so they made a cool contoller. I have a Wii. I like it and I'll give them props for innovation. The thing that gets me about you Wii fanboys is how you can take one cool feature like that and all of the sudden nothing else matters. A fun game is a fun game no matter what kind of controller it uses.

It's not just the graphics that are improved, everything about the two systems has improved. None of the games now cannot be done on last gen hardware unless you strip it down. This can't be said for the Wii, cause almost every game is a port.
Well the Wii hasnt been able to separate it self from last gen consoles. It even shares games with last gen consoles. I see Next gen as the change in technology, creating something new, or advancing in what we have. At this time the only thing that separates the Wii from last gen consoles is a Web-browser, and a new controller that does the same thing as last gen controllers, but in adifferent way. The Wii also lacks things we have seen on last gen consoles, example a DVD player.
Systems like the PS3 and Xbox360, have changed console gaming by increasing Graphics, physics, A.I, enviroments, online support, allow cross platform matches, and several other things.
There's no point in even using the term generations if all you're talking about is the next console from a company. What would you call it if Nintendo released a new console with good graphics right now? Certainly wouldn't be next-gen over 360/PS3. That kind of definition is just utterly pointless because it is all arbitrary.
Generations of the technology behind the console are the only concrete definition of a generation there is. Wii is 6 year old Gamecube architechture, and therefore the hardware is not current. Peripherals and software have nothing to do with the hardware behind them either.
