I feel the Wii is made only for the casual market. Why didn't Nintendo make a system with a little more power so people with a Wii can enjoy more expansive games? For Example, if there is to be a KOTOR 3, it will not be on the Wii due to the sheer size of it.

And if the Wiimote is good for FPS'S, then why not Halo and Half-Life calibur games?

Because the Wii is made for the simplest of games. Hardcores will just have to have a PC, 360 or PS3.

Tis is pointless, you're simply bashing the Wii for the sake of it. You've no idea how it'll turn out. Also, when you ask why there aren't games of Halo/Half-Life caliber on the Wii, did you ask yourself when there was last an FPS in general of those caliber? 2004 wasn't it? Why don't the Xbox 360 doesn't have them yet either, neither does the PS3. Games like that take years to make, the Wii's been out for just over 6 months, and as most people with eyes have noticed, developer support has only kicked up in that short time, hardly much space to create a masterpiece, is it?

One or two games isn't enough to appeal to the more hardcore gamers. I myself don't want the system just for that reason, no games with depth. You need more than one person to play games, all of the good ones are party games excpet for Zelda. I personally like online and singleplayer games, party games are fun once in awhile but I wouldn't buy a system just for them.

That's why he's complaining that the Wii doesn't have one or two games... Halo or Half-life calibur? First that's setting the bar both too low and to high at the same time... and second it has good to great games that hardcores likes...

The majority of the gaming population are casuals, why not aim some thing to the majority. Seems like a good business decision if you ask me.

You've changed your tune, you used to be one of the biggest sheep on these forums. As usual any past association is desparately ignored and forgotten. Also, what about cows and the ever lasting defense of: FF13 and MGS4 will save us?

Because gamers doubted the wiimote even up till launch. Had they released a system priced the same as the 360 or PS3 with such a weird concept for a controller, it could have been disastrous.

Because Nintendo has lost out since N64 days....N64 and Gamecube has great graphics yet it lost out to Playstation. Nintendo then know that they cant compete with sony and MS, so they invited the wii which gives a total different gaming experince from sony and ms......

huh i swear the sheep on this site cant debate at all.

Anyway Zelda and Papermario cover the hardcore for now. RE 4 is a port, but still a great game for those who didnt play it. Then theres smash, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, DQ swords, No more Heroes, Nights, FF CC, Fire Emblem, battallion Wars 2, Disaster, Soul Caliber Legends, Zack and Wikki, Dewys Adventure, Manhunt 2, Sadness, etc

Ans yes mario platformers are hardcore games, because there not the cheesy spinoff marios. IF mario is a casual game than so is every other platformer. since thats the genre of game Mario Galaxy and SUperpaper Mario are. He has casual appeal but at the same time it is a hardcore game.

The wii is getting lots of hardcore games worth picking up, and E3 will show alot more new ones, dont be surprised when we see some 3rd party games that look amazing because of all the sales Wii is picking up specifically in Japan. I for one know the wii has an excellent lineup of games to compliment my 360 games.

If u wanna say that the Wii cant be the primary system for a hardcore gamer, well sure thats true. But in no way cant a hardcore gamer enjoy a lot of the games wii will offer.

So Super Paper Mario is a party game? Super Mario Galaxy is a party game? Is Metroid? Is Bwii? Is No More Heroes? That argument started failing months ago.

At the moment no, the wii is trying to aim at everyone but focusing on the non gamers and nintendo hardcore fans more (SPM, mario stirkers, zelda and the big 3) . But if the wii continues it sucess I am more than sure that the wii will see more variety despite its lack in power.

I actually think that no more heroes and resident evil may set a standard for other 3rd party games

How can the wii not produce hardcore games? The ps2 is considerably weaker, andit had tons of them. Or have they suddenly all become casual trash?

the wii can and will give us great games. only a fool would say otherwise.

well, for hardcores, they will get some good games, like mario , zelda, pokemon, and metroid. that's about it. the rest will be minigames.

Before someone makes a thread like this, they need to give what their definition of what a "hardcore" gamer is. Mine would be anyone who puts the majority of their free time into gaming. By that definition, there are plenty of hardcore gamers on the Wii.

The Wii is going to miss a lot of games that will go on the 360 and PS3. Of course, they'll say they have thei r exclusives. I've seen that exclusive list, it's nothing to get excited about. It's mostly kiddy stuff or party compilations or spin-offs like Umbrella Chronicles and Soul Calibur Legends. Hardly stuff to spend $50 on and miss.

But there are different types. One who has played games for over 15 years, plays Starcraft, Civiclization, KOTOR is different from someone who only played games for 1 year and played Wii sports. They have different knowledge about gaming and different tastes. To developers, this difference is important to know, so they know what to make in the future.

Just because I play baseball for 1 week does not classify me as a baseball player with the likes of Major League Baseball players. I know it sounds very empowering to unify all people into one group, but you have to get use to the fact there are distinct classes of gamers and divisions. If there weren't, we wouldn't have so many different genres of games.

Kotor is in no way more hardcore than Wii Sports and vice versa, although I would like to point out Kotor is my favorite game ever. And Kotor is completely different from Starcraft except for the Sci Fi theme. What I'm trying to say is that just because someone has played video games for 15 years or 1 year doesn't define them as a gamer. What if someone starts gaming on Starcraft or Civilization?

people were doubting the Nintendo ds too. i remember the same argument, that was used on the ds, was basically used on the Nintendo wii. these arguments, get tired and bland now. The Nintendo ds is for casuals, the graphics sucks, the Ds has no games, ect.. this argument was put to rest, just like how the argument with the wii will be too.

Sigh, if we're just debating whether hardcore games can exist on the system, RE4 shows that great, hardcore games can run on Wii and run BETTER with motion/pointer controls... developers just need to get to it.

Manhunt 2 would have been more visceral on Wii due to literally sawing limbs and chopping heads.

Alien Syndrome brings a Diablo-esque game to consoles with a control scheme that doesn't feel archaic and clunky.

Scarface on Wii makes driving and shooting at the same time a breeze. Free aim is great, fast, and precise.

Godfather is arguably best on Wii due to enhanced melee and free aim.

Trauma Centre is a surprisingly hardcore game (due to the speed and precision required that most casuals don't have) that would not play well on standard controllers.

Hardcore could mean anything. I play almost anything and I consider myself more hardcore than other people as I like to play games a lot. It's like all of a sudden being a casual gamer is a bad thing. Without casual gamers, the market would collapse, so i wouldn't insult the more casual gamers just yet.

That's just wrong. Do you actually think that Nintendo's executives are a bunch of monkeys incapable of intelligent thought? They have obviously learned tons from the SNES and the GCN, the best example being online.

If you're looking for a deep gaming experience, it's either a 360, PS3 or PC. End of discussion.

i agree... they ought to have put more power into the wii and maybe then more ps3 and x360 games would be ported to it... its exactly the same with last generation. so often would we hear "blah blah blah blah available on ps2 and xbox" and already this gen we're hearing the same but with ps3 and x360.

nintendo dont seem to care about a lot of these games, preferring instead to continue with their own (worn out IMO) franchises.

my favourite genre if shooters, and with xbox 360 i have several options like rainbow six vegas, call of duty 2 and 3, ghost recon 1 and 2, gears of war etc. there are also plenty of upcoming shooters which im interested in COD4, hells highway and medal of honor to say just a few.

with the wii, i can only play maybe one of these games (just off the top of my head), and even that has hugely downgraded graphics which for me impacts greatly on the enjoyment of the game.

i expect to see these trends continue throughout this gen, and the next gen after this if nintendo fail to do something about it.

And if the Wiimote is good for FPS'S, then why not Halo and Half-Life calibur games?

GodHatesYankees

This is why our industry is in the crapper. No one leaves any room for original ideas to come up and shine. Unless it isn't Halo or Half Life or Metal Gear, it's junk. Bravo.

How can the wii not produce hardcore games? The ps2 is considerably weaker, andit had tons of them. Or have they suddenly all become casual trash?

the wii can and will give us great games. only a fool would say otherwise.

BuryMe

It's not that it can't deliver hardcore games, it's that Nintendo doesn't want it to.

Yes, it's Nintendo's fault that third party developers are trying to unload bad ports and rushed games. I mean it was Nintendo who told them to do it. Don't forget about the fact that SSBB, MP3, and SMG are all casual games. /sarcasm
