So is it just me, or is it apparent that even in current gen terms, the Wii U is behind the curve?? At least the Wii had potential beyond PS2 generation. How long do you expect Nintendo to hold on to the Wii U before moving on to a new console or worse?

I guess thats why only colorful kiddy games come out on wii u, those are the types where you dont need powerful specs to make look good.  just some bright colors.

Colorful kiddy games comes out on PS3 and 360. Puppeteer just released on PS3.

No, if the next gen is a race, Wii U false started. The best hope for it is a weak start from Sony or MS, I just don't see either of them making that many more unforced errors.

Those 7th gen consoles are established and Wii U needs to establish itself.

Console has potential, just needs quality games. All up to Nintendo.

As long as it usually takes, really. They can't afford to make a new console and release it in the middle of the gen, as that said new console, no matter how powerful it is, will be overlooked by the fact that PS4/XBOX One will already be deeply adapted. That, and it has the chance of alienating Wii U owners and future customers once they see the system with the games they'd want to play killed off early when it's nowhere near VB failure.

They DON'T have a choice.

Yeah Wii U is behind the curve, but it's upcoming library appeals to the kind of gamer that favoured the old priorities of this industry: Gameplay, level design, and challenge. These essential elements shine through in the games Nintendo is and has produced on the console. The industry is changing, but in many cases I feel like it's for the worst so I enjoy that Nintendo hasn't adopted some of those poor trends like cinematic focus or online only.

That's not to say that the other consoles will get excellent games in the same vain, but my optimism is waning after what a lot of developers did with the added power from last gen... It feels like the industry is bottle-necking. Games are aiming for a singular market more and more resulting in a lot of similar trends throughout this medium. It's refreshing that a top tier developer like nintendo is sticking to its guns and producing something different. That is why I'm proud to say I own a Wii U. It's library is bursting with what I desire.

I have much respect for Nintendo but it's sad seeing Wii U stuff sit around unsold in my town. They are in tough spot. It's anyone's guess how long they can hold out.

BlueCash

"Hold out"?  What's to hold out?  They aren't in serious debt or being forced out of the console business like Sega was.  The Wii U can live out a normal 5 year or so lifespan the way the N64 and GC did.

Cant compete with PS3 and 360 let alone next gen PS4 and XBox One or a 8 year old PC.
Shame how Nintendo are going for the casuals and care about profit rather than optimising for the best and being progressive like they used to.

My smartphone runs bright coloured cartoon games pretty well too.
Investors in the Wii:U will be hurt the most also.

How can the Wii U's controller be garbage if it has all the functionality of a normal controller plus so much more?

it is gimicky though. its just not "cool" (in casual terms) to be playing with a huge tablet in your hands. Obviously this is just my opinion, but thats how a lot of people (casuals) think. Plus even gamers just want some normal controller. i love nintendo games but they haven't released much. on the top of my head an old GC remake in WW, W101, pikmin 3. It's a console thats been out for a year and those are its best games? in terms of multiplats, its going to suffer as well for obvious reasons. Put simply, its a console stuck in between the two generations (the one coming and the current gen).

Agreed. Within a single year of its existence it has 13 quality exclusive games released/announced for release soon. That's not something one can say about most consoles.

Well it depends on what you're comparing. If it's the hardware itself, then the answer is no, it's not behind current gen systems at all. The hardware in the Wii U completely smashes what's inside the PS3 and the Xbox 360. But as far as support goes, then yes, it's definitely behind the curve.

PS3 had a shocking start. 360 had a great one. Regardless, both were very powerful consoles and everyone knew they were getting tons of next gen games, both 1st and 3rd party

No it's pretty on par with current gen and has features in it set for Next Gen.

If this is about power I'm pretty sure the WiiU is far capable of keeping up with Next Gen consoles, though we haven't seen much of it.

How can the Wii U's controller be garbage if it has all the functionality of a normal controller plus so much more?

Garbage because...

1) Its battery life is laughably pathetic. Yeah you can plug in the cable for it but in this day and age all controllers are wireless for the most part.

2) It is shit in terms of hardware. Come on, the damn touch screen cant even do multi touch inputs. Yeah the screen is ok but 90% of smartphones and tablets have a hell of a lot better resolutions and dont have a 2004 LCD monitor look to them.

3) Its too damn big to be a decent controller. Yes it functions very well but it isnt exactly something you just rest in your lap or hold up easily without getting in the way.

4) How many wiiu games actually use the touch screen in such a way that the game is actually better because of it? How many games do people play and say "Wow this game is so awesome with the tablet controller, I cant imagine its as good using a standard pro controller"? Maybe 1 if that?

5) You cant even use 2 of the damn things on one system and if yours breaks? Hope you got enough cash to go buy a new wiiu.

6) The interface sucks. Its like some cheap tablet youd buy at big lots for 59 dollars. It is seriously behind the curve on other modern touch screen devices.

7) Its purely just a gimmick and nothing else. Nintendo sold the wii on the gimmick of motion controls, they sold the 3ds on the gimmick of 3d, and now they tried to cash in on the tablet uprising but shoe horning it into the wiiu for no reason at all.

How many people buying GTA 5 would even think the PS4 is even a good investment when the PS3 shares most of the same games? Never mind, there's a lot of morons in the world that think another credit card would absolve of their financial problem.

How many people knew about Assassin's Creed in 2005? People were hyping Lair and Rockstar's Table Tennis, Oblivion on the 360 and Resistence: Fall of Man.

Specific titles success or failure didn't matter. We knew the consoles were getting all major developers and game series. We knew that they had the power and the dev support to crank out amazing games for the whole gen. They fulfilled this promise, lasting 8 years in the case of 360, still getting amazing games on a regular basis. Wii had NOTHING like that. WiiU has NOTHING like that. This right here is the golden age of WiiU third party support, since it can share 360/PS3 games easily. It's all downhill from here. Once 360/Ps3 are left behind, and PC/PS4/Xbone games are standard, WiiU will be foundering along an entire gen behind with little support. Wii all over again.

The games will come. There is already proof of that. Its not going to be an amazing system, but it still is a solid one nonetheless.

First, let's get real about how powerful the wiiu is on paper.  The wiiu is more powerful than the 360 and ps3.  It's not a huge step up, but big enough to be noticeable in most aspects.  If this power isn't noticeable in the wiiu yet, it will be some day.

So, we can assume that the games will be similar to GTA5 and TLOU, only a bit better.  Those games look amazing, but aren't jaw dropping like what the xb1 and ps4 doing.

So Nintendo is obviously not targetting consumers who view gaming as hardware-driven.  They aren't targetting people who compare screen shots and study why there are differences.  Nintendo made a system that can make games that look 'nice'.  I think we will see lots of artistic obscurity like Pikmin and Windwaker, and not much gritty realism from Nintendo.

It's not a horrible position.  Lots of people will find the wiiu appealing once the software delivers (because currently the hardware sure isn't).

Nintendo doesn't need the best tech. What the U offers is easily sufficient for them to dominate even the PS4/Xbone if they'd get their act together in other areas.

The WiiU is the most powerfull console available. The issue is it still is lacking 3rd party support and Nintendo just cant pump out games fast enough.

[QUOTE="locopatho"][QUOTE="hiphops_savior"] How many people knew about Assassin's Creed in 2005? People were hyping Lair and Rockstar's Table Tennis, Oblivion on the 360 and Resistence: Fall of Man.KBFloYd

Wii all over again.

and yet everyone bought a wii instead of your precious 360 and ps3... cry Moar!

Sales don't equal quality, no matter how much you wish they did, pathetic sheep
