So now that they had to push Donkey Kong's release date to 2014 the only exclusive game left for 2013 is another Mario Bros game (Lame).  Nintendo should have released their console this year for the price of $299.99 since all their great games are coming in 2014 anyways.  The year head start over the PS4/XB1 did not help the Wii U at all.  Nintendo really needs 2014 to be a big success for them, or else I think we can all agree that the Wii U will be canned by the end of 2015.

Another delay?

At least they're consistent. Those launch window promises, almost all were broken.

I'm pissed DK was delayed, but the new Mario game does look sick. I love me a damn good platformer.

So this year, still left to release, Mario, Sonic, Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed, Batman, Call of Duty, in addition to Zelda, The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Blacklist, Rayman, New Super Luigi U, Minster Hunter, Lego City, New Super Mario Bros U, and Nintendo Land... And that's a shortage of games to you?

If by coming 2014 you mean the end of the x1 and Ps4, then sure. That's exactly what's coming! :D

Bringing up multi-plats means nothing, since the majority of Wii U owners most likely owns a 360/PS3 anyways. I'm talking mainly exclusives. You know the games that actually convince you to buy another console.

Not to mention the PS4 has inFAMOUS coming out in February. So it won't be going through the drought the Wii U went through.

It's nothing, because all those multiplats are the same as current gen systems that have been out 7+ years. And sadly, some (if not all) of those multiplats will actually be BETTER on the platforms that have been out 7+ years.

Even if I were to defy all logic and actually buy a Wii-U, I would purchase exactly NONE of those multiplats on the Wii-U.

Lol, fine, you all want to talk about exclusives? Whereas I find that immensely hypocritical considering just how eager so many posters are to call the Wii U out when it DOESN'T get a multiplat, fine. The PS4 launches with Drive Club, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Knack. The Xbox One has Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, and Ryse: Son of Rome. These consoles are going up against the Wii U, which, if we ONLY do exclusives, will at that point have stockpiled New Super Mario Bros. U, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, New Super Luigi U, The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Sonic: Lost World, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, and Super Mario 3D World. Even as exclusives go, there is no competition- while the Wii U's best games are undoubtedly all slated for 2014, it's holiday 2013 lineup is no slouch either.

PS4's launch lineup is still better than Wii U's launch lineup. Yes, all those games have been released on the Wii U, yet the Wii U is still selling like crap, so what's the excuse? If those games were truly great then surely people would be buying the Wii U like hotcakes right now, yet the sales tell a different story.

a) PS4 won't be competing with the Wii U launch lineup, it will be competing with the Wii U as it stands at that moment in time, and at that moment in time, the Wii U will have its launch lineup plus a year's worth of games b) You are equating sales with quality. Lawl. So Call of Duty is the best game ever, Transformers the best movie ever, Twilight the best books ever, and Justin Beiber the best musician ever? c) Wii U games nor the console haven't sold, but that comes down to several reasons- the Wii U was too pricey for the longest time. It went seven months without a major release. It had no E3 presence. Nintendo delayed several of its own games for the system. There has been, so far, little to no advertising for the console. All of which changes this holiday season.

Really?? Seems odd considering the very reason I'm not picking up any of the other next-gen consoles this year is solely because there are too many Wii U games for me to buy (plus Beyond Two Souls. Which is last-gen anyway). 2014 is just the beginning of the icing on the cake.

Are you trying to be obtuse on purpose? The Wii U was too pricey relative to what it offered. What it offered was squat, not only in terms of the tech and hardware and software, but also in terms of games, which can almost every single time make up for those other shortcomings. The Wii U was a fundamentally poor value proposition- it was outdated hardware packaged with a controller that no one understood, sold with minimal games, and the ones that it did sell with ones that no one really wanted, and with schizophrenic brand identity problems to the point where most people legitimately thought it was just an accessory for an old, mostly unused console to begin with. And all of this sold for $350. The situation is much better now, and will be even better this Holiday season.

Some solid points were made, but the Wii U won't get a huge boost in sales just because of Mario 3D World. Zelda Wii U bundle will probably be their best selling Wii U product this Holiday season, but how many of them will they actually sell by the end of 2013?  I truly think the PS4 will outsell Wii U's total install base in a matter of months.

I'm not sure what your point throughout this entire thread is. Are you trying to say the Wii U will struggle with sales? Well no duh, of course it will struggle with sales, I'd be astonished if it crossed 20 million. The PS4 will outsell it? Of course it will, God, I hope it does, because it'd have to pretty much not sell at all to sell less than the Wii U. So, what's your point? The console or those games not selling doesn't change the fact that those games are already here, or are coming; it doesn't change the fact that your initial 'everything in 2014' assertion was dead wrong.

Problem is, by that time, literally no body would care about the Wii U than they do now. PS4/XBOX One will have been out and sold like mad, while the Wii U, even if it had Mario and Zelda in place, would still get it's ass kicked.

No no, you are quite confused.

I played and loved Zombi U from day one. A great exclusive game utilizing the system's unique next-gen controller features.

Also we've been playing Pikmin since august (9 months from launch) and The Wonderful 101 since two weeks ago (10 months since launch).

The Wii U launched in November of 2012. Not sure where this nebulous "2 years" you mentioned is coming from.

[QUOTE="emgesp"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] Are you trying to be obtuse on purpose? The Wii U was too pricey relative to what it offered. What it offered was squat, not only in terms of the tech and hardware and software, but also in terms of games, which can almost every single time make up for those other shortcomings. The Wii U was a fundamentally poor value proposition- it was outdated hardware packaged with a controller that no one understood, sold with minimal games, and the ones that it did sell with ones that no one really wanted, and with schizophrenic brand identity problems to the point where most people legitimately thought it was just an accessory for an old, mostly unused console to begin with. And all of this sold for $350. The situation is much better now, and will be even better this Holiday season.charizard1605
Some solid points were made, but the Wii U won't get a huge boost in sales just because of Mario 3D World. Zelda Wii U bundle will probably be their best selling item this Holiday season, but how many of them will they actually sell by the end of 2013?

I'm not sure what your point throughout this entire thread is. Are you trying to say the Wii U will struggle with sales? Well no duh, of course it will struggle with sales, I'd be astonished if it crossed 20 million. The PS4 will outsell it? Of course it will, God, I hope it does, because it'd have to pretty much not sell at all to sell less than the Wii U. So, what's your point? The console or those games not selling doesn't change the fact that those games are already here, or are coming; it doesn't change the fact that your initial 'everything in 2014' assertion was dead wrong.

My main point was Nintendo wasted their year head start since all their big games won't hit until 2014 anyways. Where is that killer app Nintendo fans have been waiting for since 2012? Pikmin 3, TWF101, An HD remake of a Gamecube game? I'm not saying those games are bad, but they are not killer apps.

Really?? Seems odd considering the very reason I'm not picking up any of the other next-gen consoles this year is solely because there are too many Wii U games for me to buy (plus Beyond Two Souls. Which is last-gen anyway). 2014 is just the beginning of the icing on the cake.

Darth-Samus

That means you had to wait almost 2 years for a true killer app for the Wii U.

No no, you are quite confused.

I played and loved Zombi U from day one. A great exclusive game utilizing the system's unique next-gen controller features.

Also we've been playing Pikmin since august (9 months from launch) and The Wonderful 101 since two weeks ago (10 months since lauch).

The Wii U launched in November of 2012. Not sure where this nebulous "2 years" you mentioned is coming from.

How many Wii U consoles sold after TW101 and Pikmin 3 were released?    Exactly.

Yes, I agree, from a commercial perspective, Nintendo ruined any and all chance they might have had with the Wii U.

The PS3 and 360 did not have a KA the first year either.

Preferably, they shouldn't have released the Wii U at all.

The one thing I can sort of agree with you in is that they did essentially blow their one year head start. As an owner of both games I can confirm with you that Pikmin and W101 are indeed killer apps, and they took just under a year to release.

Nope. Xbox 360 launched with Call of Duty 2, and over the next year, it got The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Gears of War, those were all notable killer apps. The Wii U has received nothing comparable within the same time frame (although I guess Mario 3D World and Sonic Lost Worlds will count once they're out).

PS3 had a killer app at launch, it was called being the cheapest Blu-ray on the market. I know someone will mock that, but its true.  A lot of people purchased the PS3 at launch because it was the cheapest Blu-ray player. The 360's killer app was being the first console to play games in HD, so that really excited gamers.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"] b) You are equating sales with quality. Lawl. So Call of Duty is the best game ever, Transformers the best movie ever, Twilight the best books ever, and Justin Beiber the best musician ever?

And yet...Nintendrones love to constantly cite past sales numbers as some metric of quality. But I agree. Sales=\= quality.

Regardless, I think despite those titles you mention, you're missing the bigger issue: Many people have simply lost interest in Nintendo. They are rapidly relegating themselves to irrelevance and an afterthought. And the fact of the matter is, it will take an enormous amount of effort on multiple fronts over a good deal of time by them to change peoples perceptions. This problem puts Nintendo in a far more precarious position than any lack of games ever could.

There is such a thing known as "consumer faith". When that faith erodes, it's far more damaging to a company than some mistakes they can quickly rectify presents.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"]Lol, fine, you all want to talk about exclusives?

One year of WiiU games is better than one day of PS4 or Xbox One games, yes. In any sort of similar time scale, WiiU is going to lose. Possibly in exclusives and definitely in overall library. (You wanna call Monster Hunter and Windwaker exclusives btw? Lol)
