You may ridicule me for my low post/level count, as it seems that on this board people with low post counts don't have any credibility, allegedly it makes all the difference. However, petty numerical values don't mean I cannot talk sense.

I'm new here, this board is obviously the most popular. So here's my two cents.

The Wii has smashed records worldwide, it has already taken over the Xbox 360 and Nintendo are once again the market leaders after more than 10 years. Not bad eh?The Wiimote is the main attraction, the main selling point.Making games more accessible and somewhat more interactive.

However can Nintendo sustain their success?

No, with crappy shovel ware games coming like a flowing tap, awful visuals, with PSP and PS2 ports it's the industry's worst nightmare. The last generation hardware gives developers and excuse to make these types of games, it's almost like Nintendo condones games of this quality. In fact, it's almost like they're inspired by them, the first party titles are all jokes, All of them dumbed down compared to their predecessors like MP3 and TP, I was insulted by how easy those games were.

Nintendo have clearly left their fan base hung and dry. In 2007 we are paying for 2001 technology and the "sheep" (as the sticky describes them) eats all up like it's the second coming of Christ, while Nintendo are laughing all the way back to the bank.

It takes quality and consistency to sustain success, too bad the Wii's 2008 line-up is a damn joke. Wii fit and Mario kart? I'll pass thanks. Oh wait, I forgot, they delayed SSBB the glorified party fighter.

I just hope Sony and MS don't follow suit, over wise I'll have to quit gaming altogether :(

People said the same thing about the DS you know? It didn't have a great start with games, didn't have great 3rd party support either. Devs chose the PSP at the start.

But look now, it's going insane in sales. I'm not saying Wii success will directly follow the DS' success, I'm just proving to you that the start of a console's life doesn't determine how the whole gen will play out. Give devs some time, and we'll see good results with the Wii.

That's the fundamenal issue here, what has the Wii got in 2008 to even compete with the PS3 or even the 360 for that matter?

I don't care. The Wii's success will not mean I won't get to enjoy all the big name games, the Wii isn't even getting the mass majority of them so why should 360 or PS3 owners care about its success.

I didn't say you should care, I'm mainly adressing those who actually believe Nintendo could go all the way with this travesty of a console.

Actually it most likely will sustain its success. Much like TVB pointed out the Wii is in a similar situation to the DS, the strong sales are going to draw more and more publishers/developers to the Wii. Look at the DS, its so popular Bioware is making an honest-to-god Sonic game (which will be awesome). We'll most likely see a similar trend with the Wii, eventually the sales will hit a point where every developer and their dog is making a game for the Wii, and some of those developers are going to be premier ones like Bioware that won't make Q&D shovelware.

Yet, many consoles have had horrendous starts software-wise and finished on top. The PSOnecomes to mind, and how is it a travesty? Because it doesn't offer HD and 3 different shades of brown on a $500+ TV?

The Wii's sucess is mainly from the novelty of the wiimote, once that goes what do you have? A gloryfied gamecube.

To surprise people, like they did with the Wii itself.

It doesn't make sense to assume that the best selling console, the surprise hit, has nothing major for 2008.

Nintendo has a ton of franchises left in the bag, plus 3rd party games. We could see games announced in early to mid 2008 with a Q4 2008 release date.

I didn't think the Wii would be thrashing the competition like it has, either. Perhaps this stroke of "luck" as you claim isn't all luck after all.

Coincidentally, blaming Luck for anything in a competitive area (which the marketplace for Games is) is equivalent to whining.

You don't like Wiifit, so that means everybody won't like it?

That's the nice thing about the Wii. It is unique, and it has a bright future because of that. Devs will take risks, some will fall flat on their faces, but some will put out amazing games on the Wii.

As a side note, I think AC and Pikmin will come to the Wii, plus Miyamoto is working on a new IP for 2008. This is what has been officially announced, not what is all to be announced for 2008.

it will nintendo have a new audience not concered with quality gaming they look at the box and buy carnival games or wiisports, wii is a must have thing the ultimate cupboard dweller only comes out at parties *cough*, traditional gaming lives on in the 360 infact its not much of a stretch to say the 360 holds the gaming industry as we know it together right now its the only place third parties can get big sales from big games...........wii will sell no matter how few games are there the people buying it dont give a crap about the titles that make the 360 popular there probably salivaiting at the thought of excersing/looking like a plank with wiifit instead

Thankfully nintendo has split the market wii's succes has had little effect on the 360 traditional gaming and third parties so i can still enjoy my favortite types of games without getting a wii thats the best thing to come out of this whole thing

Yeah, we have lots of sloppy shovelware right now, but that can change in the future. That's all I'm trying to tell you. Anyone can hate casual games, the Wii etc, whatever, but it doesn't change the fact that the strong sales of the console will probably lead it to a bright future.

Fair point, but GT and GTA are broader, and they are allready *very* established franchises. Unlike Wii Fit (which costs a lot for a mere fitness program)

I enjoy RPG's, why would I want a XBOX. Nintendo is giving me Fire Emblem, Tales of Symphonia, Monster Hunters 3, and a few more that I will enjoy. Once PS3 gets there act together and delivers some RPG's I will buy one and be a Wii/PS3 owner. I don't like shooters or playing online because I honestly don't give a crap about other gamers. How is Xbox going to take care of a gamer like me. Yah they are developing some sub-par RPG's but it isn't enough to buy a Xbox. Right now I am enjoying old school games on my VC and waiting for Fire Emblem. So to say the Wii is not for gamers but only casuals is plain stupid. Enjoy your real life shooters/realistic graphicsand I will enjoy my fantasy games so I can take a break from real life!

Well, DS had an awful start too. Its best game at launch was a remake. Lots of 3rd parties made awful games for it (Sprung  ) and devs were choosing to make their big games for the PSP.

Then the DS started selling well, so devs made the transfer. Same could happen with the Wii. I know PS3/360 are tougher competition than the PSP was, but there's no reason devs can't make great games for all 3 consoles.

Nah, people will buy anything that can keep them in shape. The media was going crazy over it in E3. As was the Japanese media, where it launches December 1.

Mass Effect trilogy, Too Human, Fable 2.....

And did I say that the Wii sin't for gamers, and where did you get the idea that I like ultra realistic shooters?

I suggest that you do us all a favour and refrain yourself from posting in the future.

[QUOTE="-DOT-"][QUOTE="Eponique"]

[QUOTE="-DOT-"]Fair point, but GT and GTA are broader, and they are allready *very* established franchises. Unlike Wii Fit (which costs a lot for a mere fitness program)Eponique

There are more non-gamers, than casuals and gamers combined x 10.

Non gamers wont buy a console just for an expensive fitness program, there are millions of non gamers, but what makes you think all of them will be interested in Wii Fit?

I think Brawl will sell more myself.

Nah, people will buy anything that can keep them in shape. The media was going crazy over it in E3. As was the Japanese media, where it launches December 1.

We can only wait and see.

WiiFit is going to sell so well its going to make Halo 3 slap its momma. We live in an image driven society where everyone is counting carbs, trying to lose 5 lbs and get in shape, and Nintendo is about to offer an honest-to-god videogame thats going to ****ing get you into shape. Look at the sales of the Brain Age games, and thats only for people who want to improve a part of them that people will rarely if ever notice. WiiFit is such a good idea I'm probably going to buy it, and I'm in good shape (I play rugby and hockey, imagine what the average person who is worried they have too much junk in the trunk is going to think?

I'm sorry -DOT- but when you tell me the 2008 line up for the Wii is a damn joke when SSBB, Mario Kart, No More Heroes, Okami, Tales of Symphonia 2, Dragon Quest Swords, Sadnesss, Monster Hunters 3, and more are coming out along with three awesome titles like SMG, Fire Emblem, and Zack and Wiki coming out by the end of the year. Your declaring these are not games a gamer would play. Maybe I shouldn't take you that seriously and I take my last post back because I have been at work all night and ready to go home.

I am just sick and tired of people mentioning Wiifit all the time. Hey my wife will probably play that for the yoga because she is to busy. That is mainly what Nintendo is aiming for with wiifit and that is fine. The Wii will probably be succesful until 2010. Then the PS3 will take over. The xbox will be in last place again and I gurantee this

I agree. Nintendo and third party developers need to step up and make morequality gamesthat appeal to the majority of hardcore gamers.

I'm new here, -DOT-

Yeah right.

Your "knowledge" of SW-specific terms like "sheep" and what games flopped or not (in another thread) leaves no doubts that you are not a new poster here.

The fact that you constantly refer to the stickies to back up this supposed recently-acquired knowledge does nothing but reinforce this, as you feel the need to justify your every step to look unsuspicious - which, again, makes you suspicious.

So, I'm not ridiculing your low post/level count for being new here, but for being a ban-dodger, or similar.

Well I think you have done just peachy for a level one poster. :)

I'm inclined to agree with much of what you said - especially the last sentence.

Game On !
