The Wii/PS3 battle is very similar to the DS/PSP battle....read this and see why

We are all trying to predict who will win the console race. It's still too early to tell. But I did a little comparison and contrast between who may win between the Wii and the PS3 by looking at how similar this battle is when compared to the battle between the DS and the PSP.

Read it over and see where I'm getting at:

Nintendo DS

• Easily accessible hardware and software.
• Has a broader fanbase that's beyond the traditional hardcore/enthusiasts market.
• Nintendo's 1st-party.
• Cheaper price.
• Games are cheaper to develop
• Games are easier to develop
• Places innovation over hardware power/graphics.

Sony PSP

• Target audience is the traditional hardcore Playstation enthusiasts.
• Lack of games forced Sony to rely on its UMD movie distribution in the PSP's earlier years.
• More expensive.
• Games cost more to develop
• Games are harder to develop
• Places hardware power/graphics over innovation

..............and now the comparison:

Nintendo Wii

• Easily accessible hardware and software.
• Has a broader fanbase that's beyond the traditional hardcore/enthusiasts market.
• Nintendo's 1st-party.
• Cheaper price.
• Games are cheaper to develop
• Games are easier to develop
• Places innovation over hardware power/graphics.

Playstation 3

• Target audience is the traditional hardcore Playstation enthusiasts.
• Lack of games is forcing Sony to rely on its Blu-Ray movie distribution during its early years.
• More expensive....much, MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE!!!
• Games cost a lot more to develop
• Games are much harder to develop
• Places hardware power/graphics over innovation

Well, what do you all think of this comparison and contrast? It's so similar isn't it!

Is the PS3/Wii battle basically a bigger version of the same war between their smaller counterparts? Will it end up the same way the DS and the PSP is going?

Hmm....only time will tell.

i think ps3 sales will go up when GTAIV comes out, i know it's multiplat but i know people in the target audience and they idiotically say "it'll be better on ps3" so people will stupidly lay down 1000 dollars for one crappy game.

Some do, but most look to their hardcore gaming nerd friends (i.e. us)  and they will definately look at price of hardware.  I think the presumption "it will be better on PS3" has actually been laid to rest already.  Word of mouth has spread, alot of people who own a PS3 also own a 360 and are dissapointed.

I think 360 will be the favoured platform for GTA IV, it seems to be the new PS2, the casual console of this generation I think. And GTA is the casual system seller.OfficialJab

the biggest arguement towards that (and believe me, I used to preach the exact same words you're throwing down now) is that people want different qualities with a portable over a home console.  Now, to me, thats utter BS because I simply adored the gameboy player for the gamecube and feel like a game is a game is a game.

All Wii needs is SSBB, Super Mario Galaxy, and Pokemon this year and they pretty much assuredly will have won 2007.  Sure, the 360 has Halo 3 and the PS3 has MGS4, but ultimately 3 best sellers are better than one.  Wii's innovation is ultimately what will make it the victor, or at least #2.REVOLUTIONfreak

I don't want a console where I'll have to wait until the holiday season to play good games.  Wii and PS3 seem to be all about that.

and did GTA: LCS help the PSP sales to go up?

The difference is, with Wii Nintendo is trying to invade Sony's home turf, while with DS it was the other way around.Timstuff
