The Wiis controllers would be better if it were more accurate.

Every time I play the Wii, I can't help but feel like the conroller is a little too sloppy for anything other than minigames. I couldn't imagine using the controller (as it was intended to be used like a sword if you will) for any game such as Ninja Gaiden, a racing sim game, or any other game that requires precision. It;s kind of a step in the right direction, I'm just not sure if the technoogly is robust enough yet to completely replace the a good controller or kb/mouse. Thoughts?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The controllers are capable of producing 1:1 controls, the games are not yet. Give Nintendo some more time to master the Wiimote, its a very new idea in gaming and will take a year or even more to master. If you complain about the pointer, something is wrong with your sensor bar.

Wario-Ware: Smooth Moves shows that the controller is capable of incredibly precise motion.

Its on the developers to make the software that utilizes the machine to its full extent

I hope this is the case. Imagine a Star Wars game, where in order to block blaster bolts, you have to physically make sure the lightsaber is in the right spot? THAT is next-gen, not the crap that has been shown lately.

It's all about what game you play.  If you play a lot of Wii Sports, you may get the impression that the controller is extremely inaccurate, since the game dosen't even necessarily measure which direction it's moved in.  If you play games like Madden 07, you'll find that the controller is much more accurate (the slightest tilt can cause a difference while kicking).

I know that you can configure the controller's sensitivity. I like my wii. It responds well to exacerbated or subtle movements. I agree with Grodus5 that this technology needs time to be perfected. Be patient young Xanadu, it will improve in time.

on wii baseball, they give you the oppertunity to wiggle the bat before you swing it.  and you can clearly see that it is 1 to 1.  the problem isn't the accuracy.  it's just how developers decide to use this technology.

Indeed:). Or hit like Chuck Knoblauch, with the bat head facing towards where the umpire would stand. That's the man. Or be like Gary Sheffield and wave it back and forth. That's so fun:).

I think the precision has more to do the the game than the controller itself. I'm sure that some of the problems with inaccuracy can be caused by the Wii-mote itself, but I've played games that show its incredibly accurate. I think that developers are responsible for making the game work right.

you can see the same in wii bowling and golf too. and the shooting in zelda and even red steel was pretty darn good.

For anyone who thinks the Wiimote lags, play Call Of Duty 3.  Rent it and you'll see how awesome 1:1 is on a FPS.  It's like using a mouse.

just a couple things to tc:

1: I see how you could think that, I mean in a game like wii boxing I'll admit that the punches dont do exactly what your motions do.  That is intentional I think, or else the game would succomb to a motion sensing version of button mashing.  You have to learn to control your movements, if you go too jerky and erratic then the game will punish you.  I noticed  this when my brother, who just got to try the wii, would suck on a lot of games thinking he was doing them right when he wasnt.

2: racing games on the wii are pretty great, control wise.  Try excite truck and need for speed and you'll see.  In both games, the steering wheel is the wiimote is held like a steering wheel, and the motion sensing delivers perfect controls.

3: Just so every non-wii gamer knows, the ONLY issue is the motion sensing (and I argue against even that).  The wiimote's cursor is absolutely flawless.

I don't blame the TC for his conclusion, because I was skeptical to how accurate it was myself. Take moving the hand pointer on the Wii menu for example. It 'skips' and 'jerks' a tad every so slightly, but it does. If Nintendo can't perfect their own technology on somethin as simple as a pointer, who can? But then pointer in Trauma Center, however, is flawless. And so are a few minigames in Rabbid Rabbids. The bat in wii sports is incredibly accurate, as well as the tilting in bowling. So yes, as stated earlier it seems to be up to the deveopers to make it work well or not.

I tottaly have to disagree with you on Wii boxing. The game was totaly non-responsive. Power punches come out no where. It's nearly imposible to choose between a head and body shot, and the blocking just sucks. This particular game is just flatout broken.

Man, I could not stand that. I tried it at a friend's house, and I hated it. It seemed way to difficult to have to make an actual throwing motion. Games like that are better with a regular controller imo.

Wii bowling is also very accurate, the slightest movement puts a spin on the ball.  Also note that some people think Boxing is unresponsive, but its not, you can't punch when you are getting punched!

Dude, your sig is hilarious

Everyone needs to rent Call Of Duty 3.  The aiming is fluid and very accurate.  Even the turning speed is fast and precise.

Software determines the controller's accuracy, not the wiimote itself. The wiimote is incredibly presise.
