I seriously don't get why Skyrim is getting very high scores and GOTY awards. I understand what its strength is. You can create your own character with great customization features and you can roam around a big world full of life and side quests. It's similar to GTA but you can do more. However, it's said to have mediocre plot and storytelling.

I don't know about you but plot and storytelling is very important for me in playing WRPGs. In The Witcher series, you have a great story with no cliches and you have choices to make that will have consequences later on. Dragon Age failed to have a compelling story and instead relied on cliches which is ironic. Bioware said they were inspired by A Song of Ice and Fire series yet i can't find anything in DA's story that's inspired by the books.

Skyrim seems boring to me because the main plot is mediocre. Even if side quests have interesting stories in them and no matter how epic the game world is, as long as the main plot is trash and most side quests aren't related to one another or do not contribute to the main plot, I find no purpose to continue on. Bethesda's games have always been like this just like Fallout 3.

If Skyrim managed to have a great main plot, it could have been the best game but since it doesn't, it doesn't deserve its high praise.

I enjoyed both the plot and storytelling and thought both were stellar.

It's full of cliches unlike The Witcher series which delves into politics.

Because people have opinions that differ from yours? Just a thought.

I've never played TW2, but if it was all that great, it would have gotten as much attention and praise as Skyrim.

I fail to see what's so special about Skyrim either. The story is boring, quests are either fetch quests or go to cave and kill x number of enemies, combat is lacklustre (although magic is better than Witcher 2s imo), the NPCs have no character, the visuals are mixed, from great looking vistas to almost last gen looking character models and interiors, the dragon battles are boring... :?

Witcher 2 is better in every aspect apart from exploration.

No one plays Elderscroll Games for the main plot. They play them for the open world fantasy experience. The game is what you make it to be. Catch Butterflies or Assassinate the Emperor or get infected with lycanthropy. Do what you want, when you want. Throw all that into a scenic, living world and you got yourself an awesome game.

Be warned though. The Witcher 2 is shorter than the first one which is the only thing disappointing about the game. The Witcher 1 was long but since CDPR put so much effort for the graphics, the game length was compromised. Still, The Witcher 2 looks gorgeous and i think it was worth it. I hope the sequel comes soon.

I'm not saying that. :P

I never saw the appeal in GTA4. I tried playing it some time after it was released and thought is was a horrible game.

I never understood why everyone went crazy over it, and why it got so many awards and perfect scores.

A lot of people don't see the appeal of some highly rated games. It doesn't mean your opinion is the minority though.

TBH TW1 was better than TW2. Not only was it longed, but I just found it too be more enjoyable... The way I see it, TW2 is better on the surface (graphics, animations etc) while TW1 has the better.... sou, or heart. Dont know how to explain it, but it was juist SO immersive, I couldnt stop playing it. i truly believed in the world and charactar of Geralt.

I heard they are actually adding four hours of gameplay in the 360 version. It will also be available for the PC too. Idk if that will make a big difference though.

My friends $450 custom build can play it on medium to high. And my cousins $600 HP can play it on medium, and it STILL looks WAY better than the 360 version.

I agree. That's because TW2 is short. If it was like TW1 length, it could have been so much better. TW1 had so much to tell it was so epic. The graphics and animations though are very outdated lol

Cheaper than buying a brand new PC. Instead of the $800-1000 I'd like to spend, I'll only need to spend $60. I don't see how playing a good game can be considered a detriment. I personally feel sorry for the PS3-only owners who don't get to experience it at all.

Just use your current computer, I mean most modern computers that are $400 or more should be able to play the gae at LEAST on low settings (and the game still doesnt look bad).

I agree with you 100% Why would I want to explore a world if I can't get captivated by it's lore. Skyrims lore is so bland and boring.

Skyrim is a hiking simulator with half baked mechanics that are broken, glitchy or just plain terrible. You can be a werewolf, yes, but it's so poorly implemented it's not even worth doing.

That's great, but my 360 version is going to cost £40 max. Why on earth would I spend another few hundred? I've just brought a laptop with a fairly good integrated chip, I am in no rush to run out and buy even more, because something on a high end PC looks better than my consoles, which serve me fine.

Meh, I think it might come out for PS3.... eventually. It helps to be a multiplatform gamer. And my $700 gaming pc can max it out so.... and all the money comes back with steam. for example, the games I bought on the holiday sale would add up to be $200 instead of the $70 I paid if not for the sale.

Is this some kind of argument that is trying to prove that spending hundreds of dollars on a new PC is better than spending $60 on a 360 copy of the game? I am WELL aware of the benefits of PC gaming, I've been one almost my entire life. But not only would I have to start from scratch when buying a new one (all I own is a Acer netbook) but I don't want the bare minimum... I want something capable of more than just playing PC games. I want a proper workstation that also plays games, and will last more than a couple years before needing upgrades. PC gaming is a large investment, something I regret not making before moving out with my GF (mostly due to laziness and miserliness). But I have to deal with what I have and I'd rather buy a game every couple months than go without something new for at least a year (my gaming budget isn't much, and to afford a new PC, it would take at least a year of saving everything to even be able to afford a cheaper PC without a monitor). Though, if you want to send me a new computer that can run TW2, I'd be more than willing to buy it on Steam.

[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"][QUOTE="dracolich55"] Meh, I think it might come out for PS3.... eventually. It helps to be a multiplatform gamer. And my $700 gaming pc can max it out so.... and all the money comes back with steam. for example, the games I bought on the holiday sale would add up to be $200 instead of the $70 I paid if not for the sale.dracolich55

$60 on the 360 game... what about buying the 360 itself? My 360 didnt appear out of think air, lucky you.

But that's already there. What sense does it make for Foxhound to go and spend hundreds on a PC, when a present day cost of $60/£40 will suffice.

Smartass. I already own a 360. I bought it in July 2008, more than 3 years ago (when I probably should have bought a new PC). The context of my post was that of right now. It would only cost me $60 to play it on 360, rather than the (even ideally) $500 + $50 (for the game) I would have to spend to play it on PC.

The majority of the video game stories is absolutely dreadful. If that makes the difference between a good and a great game for you, you must not play a lot of great games.

We're discussing RPGs, not FPS. Skyrim is an RPG. An RPG with a dreadful story isn't a good thing, especially when the gameplay sucks.

-Witcher 2 has decent gameplay, but a fantastic story

-Dark Souls has meh story but fantastic gameplay

-Skyrim has a meh story and meh gameplay

I only expect compelling plot and storytelling from RPGs and Adventure games like Dreamfall. I play a lot of games just watch my games list even though it's not updated yet.
