I tottally love Mass Effect Triology , Souls Trilogy, Elder Scroll games , Dragons Dogma games. Is The Witcher series good as above or even better ?

Can't really compare it to Mass Effect I don't think (however ME would be my fav out of that list)... However, out of the Elder Scrolls games and the Witcher games, I prefer Witcher.
I love all of those games (except Dark Souls) but I think Witcher is better . Choices really matter in that game . The series also features best visuals among those games . PLUS great characters and Storyline .
No way I can answer that for anyone but me. I loved ME, Souls are great but I don't really see them as a series per se. The Witcher games are my preferred.
I recently gave Witcher 2 another shot because 3 looks pretty epic. The gameplay is dog shit. Like literally no fun at all, which would make it about in line with the first Mass Effect game. Can't comment on them story wise as I haven't finished either (and don't really want to), but purely in terms of gameplay, the Souls games, Dragon's Dogma, and yes even Skyrim as shitty as it's combat is, all take a massive dump on Witcher 2 and ME1.
The Witcher (1/2) really isn't on the same level as everything else you listed, ME/Skyrim/DS are all much better games. It's decent though.

It's as good if not slightly better (maybe), I'd rank em
ME series = ES series = TW series > Soul series > Dragons Dogma
Well, Witcher is great but not without worts. .
It's not like Bioware games in which you now, pretty redundantly collect characters like Pokemon in your mini base, Which has essentially become this tedious and overused formula for Bioware for, well over a decade now.
The players decisions directly influence the story in a major way. Entire area's of the game and characters can missed depending on the choices made. It's much more impactful and meaningful when compared to the Mass Effect series.
When it comes to t he game "universe" is also better than any Bioware title. It feels like a distinct universe of it's own rather than screaming "I want to be lotr" over and over like (for example) Dragon Age.
Combat is OK, unbalanced though in both games. Athough moddable. Boss battles are honestly, terrible in the Witcher series.
World environments, some of the best seen in a game, stunning. Character models great, animation and assets, not so much. Thrilling music score. Unlike Bioware titles of recent age, a game crafting with love.
Overall, when it comes between Mass Effect and The Witcher, Dark Souls is better.
Dark Souls has a mysterious, mythical and ambitious dark fairy tale quality that is surprisingly emotionally bla bla while Bioware and CD Projekt are pretentious as **** and ham fisted about it.
witcher 2>>>>every mass effect ever made.
witcher 1 combat hasnt aged well so i just used god mode to run through the game but it still took 30 damn hours. the good thing about witcher series is the choices feel more real
Imo The Witcher 1 is pretty much unplayable due to its horrendous combat mechanics. During my few hours with the game there were also several dull quests of the "go do X of Y and come back here"- variety. According to HLTB it's a forty hour game. It would take one tough cookie to suffer through that many hours.
TW2 is a much better game. Combat is still not up there with the best games, but it's functional. Very beautiful game. Story is fantastic. Kind of game of throny, with political intrigues. You are not really sure what role the various characters will play as they have more than one side to their personality. You also get to make choices which have a significant impact. It's shorter (25h+) which to me is a good thing.
If you love Mass Effect I def think you'll enjoy TW2, so I'd say go for it (I played it without knowing anything about TW1 and it worked fine)!
I don't know why everyone hates Witcher 1 so much . It was a masterpiece . Yes animations were stiff and all that but it wasn't bad , not even close . Combat was non traditional and it wasn't just about clicking but there was a lot of other stuff to do in it as well . Yes , story starts a bit slow but once it picks up , it is hard to let it go and I played it AFTER playing Witcher 2 (and Still loved it) .
There were a lot of things that I liked in first game , and those were missing in Witcher 2 and Vise Versa . Both have their own pros and cons . Witcher 2's combat wasn't bad either , some people just approach it like any other hack n slash game . My friend recently got into gaming and 2nd game that he played was Witcher 2 . It was extremely difficult for him to play such game without playing other casual stuff like COD first but he loved it and finished it multiple times (and he did that on his low end gaming PC with terrible frame rates) . If he can then I think anybody can.
I think it wasn't bad , just not for everyone . Today's games (due to their appeal for the masses) have changed gamers' mentality and now they want every game to be the same . Sometimes a game is targeted for core fans of the genre (a niche market) and that's exactly what we need right now when industry is full of casual garbage .
Still it's OK because it may not be for you but anyone who thinks that story in Witcher sucks , clearly haven't paid attention when he played the game or it was too complex for him .
@Cloud_imperium
Wait hang on....... Aren't you one of those gamers too ?
After all The Witcher's gameplay is craptacular and it compensates by having a good story.... Casuals like good gameplay.
Good gameplay like Dark Souls .? Come on man . I know you hate Dark Souls gameplay too . Not sure , how I should take your comment seriously . May be the game needed a co-op to satisfy you .?
I like Witcher's gameplay but not a huge fan of souls series (still enjoyed it though) . At no point I called it terrible game or gave it 1/10 because you know ... it may not be for me .?
@Cloud_imperium
You don't pay attention to my rants do you ?
I don't hate Dark Souls gameplay.... I hate its RPG Elements (stat oriented design)
As for the The Witcher.... Call it what you want......
Hey LuLu_LuLu =P
Whats wrong with Dark Souls stats ? can't get it to maximum even at NG +++ or should have been there more skill trees ?

I never really played any of The Witcher series. Is it a full RPG with character building and tons of loot?
@indzman: I haven't played Dragons dogma but i've played all the rest.
As far as story, the witcher series is definitely up there. However, it is a very wordy RPG if you know what I'm saying. I don't like how every dude you get a quest from has to tell you a long ass story before he sends you on his mundane fetch quest. The characters and world are very well done though.
As far as gameplay, I'd say its worse than all of the other games you listed. The combat system is very different, but ultimate doesn't really leave me feeling satisfied, especially when the presentation of the game is so epic. Combine that with the fact that its muddled in a crappy UI menu system and I found combat and managing my character to be a chore. This goes for witcher 1 and 2 although 2 is definitely better in this department.
Its funny though, coming off the souls games makes the combat in other games feel so much less tolerable. I honestly can't play a minute of Skyrim if I just recently played Dark souls. Same goes for the witcher.

My friend, go get The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 if you don't have a gaming PC, of course. The Witcher games are bona fide RPG games in the way they allow you to influence the whole world with your actions. It's not a question of a simple dialogue tree prompt. The choices aren't immediately visible / tangible, they'll come into play later on and in a way that's impossible to predict, however the outcome is frequently a very dramatic change. There are rather linear games, however they have lots of additional side quests, and a lot of them due to their consequences could be mutually exclusive. And like I said - these are THE GAMES where you really feel you have a meaningful impact on the world. For example in The Witcher 2, depending on your choices, whole acts could be consisting of entirely different levels and events! So you can play the game any way you want. In a way it's like playing / having two entirely different games in one!
Looting isn't the most prominent aspect of gameplay, though. The most prominent ones are using different combat tactics against different types of enemies, and the alchemy portion of the game - where you collect different ingredients and concoct different kinds of elixirs which enhance you in combat. Progression trees also give you a lot of choice to tailor the character to your most prefered play-style, and they offer completely different combat branches depending if you prefer use of magic, direct combat (which also has several variations) or alchemy the most. You can be either jack of all trades or a specialist in any of them, but not in all.

yes
@Salt_The_Fries: thanks man for the info. I was hoping they weren't some action RPG. This def answers my question.

What exactly is wrong with the combat mechanics in The Witcher? I'm planning to play the entire series, starting with the first one. Maybe it's so unique that you merely didn't have the patience to learn it, and enjoy it? I've seen many people that had that problem with games that had unique gameplay.
Have you played the first Gothic game? Now that is a unique, awkward way to create combat mechanics. Basically you need to use a combination of sorts, like using the action key (the left mouse button iirc) wile pressing either WASD (forward, backward, left, right) to block and to attack, complemented by a unintuitive lock-on detection that requires you to hold down the action key at all times. The mechanics are unique, but they function accordingly to what the developers intended.
If it's better than that, then it's playable.
The Witcher 1 had a brilliant ending. Most people probably didn't understand it though.
Agreed my friend . Still waiting for some answers . If there weren't any questions in your mind regarding Alvin and Grand Master at the end of the game then you clearly didn't understand the story at all . It was brilliant .

My friend
Oh no, uninspiredcup's pretentiousness is spreading.
@Lucianu
Are you saying The Witcher gets a free pass because the developers "intended" to make horrible controls ?
Yeah that's a pretty weird post lol. Intent is the last thing anyone should care about when it comes to critiquing something.
