The word "overrated" has become pathetic and meaningless.

There's nothing more redundant that a "x game is overrated" or "what games do you find overrated" thread. It's where people bash other games, and cause needless flame wars over video games. It's grown to be quite annoying, because the word overrated is powerful enough to shut down valid counter-pointing or any necessary criticism. It's a meaningless, and snobby phrase for people to think they set themselves with higher standards than others. Rather to be opiniated, with valid points to back up their opinions. Most people who use the term "overrated', often don't give any good reasons to why they think x game is overrated. They even dismiss a game being overrated, without even playing it. *sigh*

I promote that, if you going to call a game overrated, give valid reasons for it. I maybe a egotistical, but at least I'm not snobbish to often use the word overrated. There are a lot of games that I believe get a lot more praise and popularity than they deserve (MGS4, Halo: Reach, GTAIV, Modern Warfare 2), but I have constructive criticism towards them than just saying the word "overrated".

Am I the the only one who's sick of "dis gaem iz overated!!!" threads? Or am I going to be flamed for saying all of this?

There are many words that grind my gears in this here System Wars... Overrated is definitely one of them. "Generic" is also another example :x I think every video game has been called generic by one individual or another :P

If I don't like a particular game or series, I tend to avoid using the term overrated to explain why. I usually give reasons why it didn't interest me or click for me, but I won't say anyone else shouldn't like it. It's not fair for someone to say that a large amount of people should not like game x because it didn't click for said individual.

The word 'overrated' is an overrated term used by users of the word 'overrated. This is because the word is way too generic when simply used and then the user does not explain why something is overrated.

Personally, I hate seeing the words "Rip-off" or "Clone". :(

I have said this time and again, the entire precept of overrated is a complete fallacy. It's not just someone expressing their opinion of a game, they take it beyond that and are essentially saying that everybody else who likes the game are wrong.

The entire community contributes to game's estimate. So there is no "overrated" or "underrated", it's simply a game's rating by concensus.

I agree, but I have also come to not listen to anyones opinions that post here in SW. Everyone seems biased one way or another, which i dont understand. I give my honest opinion. People may not like it but at least it is how I really feel, people here post BS 99% of the time just to defend there system. This place is boring.
