I'm just focusing on worst, I could go on all day about the great things about any of them, spanning back at least two generations in the case of 360, and many more in the case of Nintendo. Plus, SW is all about negativity!
Nintendo: Losing sight of their core audience, in favor of casuals. Selling out completely. Pimping out their core franchises to the Nth degree. Horrible showings at trade shows and conventions.
Sony: Arrogance prior to PS3's launch. A weak PS3 launch lineup. Many marketing missteps and blunders. A very steep price point. For a long time, multiplats were visibly inferior. The decision to leave rumble out of SIXAXIS controllers.
Microsoft: Absolute nonsense with their peripheral devices; overpriced, incompatible, difficult to use, many of them are now discontinued. Paying for timed exclusives in favor of creating new IPs. Rushing their product out to beat the competition caused massive hardware problems. An apparent overemphasis on the bottom line.
I love all the companies, but Ninty has completely turned me off this gen. MS as a company has pulled some sheisty stuff, Sony has made a bunch of boneheaded mistakes this gen, but I love both the PS3 and the 360.
but was it a mistake for them or a mistake for rare and microsoft.. it looks like an extremely clever decision since rare has totally failed after they left nintendo..The worst mistake Nintendo made was giving away Rare
I always loved the Old Rareware games

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"][QUOTE="gammon56"] wii best n64 worst wii gammon56Der? what does that mean? ohhh oops n64= best wii=worst obviously n64 is the worst since it was the console that brought nintendo into a big slump.. nes is the best since it brought nintendo to the throne in the first place..
The best thing that Nintendo has done (this generation) has been to expand the base of software users. Although the market is truly divided at the moment, they have taken the industry towards a healthier destination, just as Sony did before them. If the path continues to the point where everyone is able to play a game they like, just as everyone can watch a film or read a book they like, well... that would be a very good thing. Plus they made Super Mario Galaxy.
The worst thing they have done is to underestimate the importance of a decent online infrastructure and to not make their console at least partially future proof. A better online platform could have prepared them for wider internet usage. Currently, the PS3 and 360 have account systems that are easily transferrable. As of now, there is no system in place for downloadable content on Nintendo's platform, which leads to a worrying future. This, also combined with a seeming lack of support for online modes, an increasing importance. It would have been nice if Nintendo's system was also able to at least partially match their competitors. The emulators can do 720p, and some Wii games really look beautiful at that resolution.
The worst thing Sony could do was to let their arrogance and market leadership get the better of their sensibilities. It was as if they learnt nothing from Nintendo's monumentous mistakes, and they decided to release a system that simply was not ready. With the success of the Wii, and the continued relevence of the PS2, Sony should have released a cheaper system later on, something akin to the Slim, and should have perfected and marketed the Eye and Arc peripherals from the start to guarantee success. As it is, they are constantly playing catch up.
The best thing they did is invest so much into third and second parties to produce some really good new IPs for this generation. Unlike Nintendo, Sony prove that they are able to think forward and generate properties that are as big, and bigger, than the things that they had before. Both approaches are good, but it is difficult not to appreciate Sony's library.
Microsoft :
Best : Halo and Xbox Live
Worst : RRoD
Sony :
Best : CD based gaming system PS1
Worst : PS3 and PSPGO (E3 2006 was so funny you cant really say anything negative about it :P)

Worst : Virtual Boy / Selling off Raresoft
[QUOTE="mariokart97"]but was it a mistake for them or a mistake for rare and microsoft.. it looks like an extremely clever decision since rare has totally failed after they left nintendo.. Although not up to the past glory of Rare's history, their current generation and late previous gen games are not exactly bad. If Nintendo had kept Rare on, it would have greatly benefitted from Perfect Dark, Kameo, Banjo and Viva Pinata. They would have complimented the Wii's library nicely. The worst mistake Nintendo made was giving away Rare

nintendo never had a core audience the core audience always shunned nintendo as kiddy and as far as kiddy goes nintendo is being the best console for it this gen so your argument failsI'm just focusing on worst, I could go on all day about the great things about any of them, spanning back at least two generations in the case of 360, and many more in the case of Nintendo. Microsoft:
Best: Introducing a good online system for the home consoles.
Worst: RRoD, shutting down Ensemble Studios, and making Rare a shadow of its former self.
Sony:
Best: Popularizing the disc format in home consoles, challenging Nintendo in areas it was very dominant before (both handheld and home consoles).
Worst: Overconfidence after their success with the PS2 and releasing the PS3 with a $600 price tag. They have also flip-flopped a lot this generation with their release of Sixaxis, and then Dualshock 3, and now the Playstation Move.
Nintendo:
Best: Hiring Shigeru Miyamoto.
Worst: Signing a contract with Sony that basically gave Sony complete control over any and all titles released for the SNES-CD and then backing out of the deal and instead making a new CD deal with Philips. Sony decided to use the technology they had developed to spawn what we now know as the Playstation. Nearly all of Nintendo's third party support followed suit and then the rest is history.
ms funded online gaming to where it istoday. they proved that amican console can do pretty good even when the japanese people turn a blind eye to a console.
nintendo got alot of us started
sony got alot of us started again with the ps1 with its more adult games.
Am i the only one who thought that Microsoft's stupidest decision was backstabbing PC gamers?
flashn00b
Well they don't get that much (if any) royalities from PC games. So you can make an argument that MS never backstabbed PC game because MS never had interest in the first place.

Before 2007 happened, most of Microsoft's companies were mainly focused on the PC. Last PC game published by Microsoft was Gears of War. so yes, i do believe that may fall under betrayal.
