CNET UK decided to rank the top five video game controllers of all time and you'll be happy to know that the Xbox 360 controller did us very proud. Actually, according to CNET the 360's controller is the best gaming controller of all time! They thought that the controller is comfy, practical, and gets extra points for being the first to the gate in being a wireless standard. We agree. Going further down the list the 360's controller beat out favorites like the PS2, N64, SNES and Atari 2600 controllers. But we do have one issue with CNET's controller description. The Xbox 360 and its controller are not "beige" in color. They are a light kinda whitish ... greyish. So, please get it right.

Nothings perfect.

I would have to agree, it's weight, shape, button placement are all awesome. My favorite controller of all time.

Nestalgia reasons people will disagree with you and say SNES controller is the best. From a tech standpoint, you maybe right:)

PS controllers are the most balanced controllers for all genres thats why they have hardly changed the design, bc it works although the ps3 controller is a little light. I have no problem with the 360 controller cept the d-pa; it's way better than the original xbox controller. N64 controller sucks monkey balls and I love 64, but it has to be one of the worst designed controllers ever, and the gc controller is worse. Atari 2600 controllers had too rigid of a joystick, i primarily used a third party controller.

The 360 controllers great, but that damn d-pad kicks my ass in oblivion when i try to quick change weapons.

oh and anyone with OCD will hate it. Not symmetrical. i want my sticks to be in line with eachother.

PS3 controller is the best IMO

I do love my 360 controller. Perfect fit with my hands. I really like the resistance or whatever you'd call it with the analog sticks. They give a great feel of control and accuracy in my opinion when playing. I do miss one aspect of the analog sticks thats been missing since the N64 days though. it seems no matter how much i play and use the heck out of my controllers I just can't seem to get that white powder residue that used to line the side on my N64 analog stick....I miss that stuff, especially the grainy feel I would get when I tried to use the stick with any sort of finesse or touch....I miss the white residue... Bring it back next gen! Now!

Agreed... though 360 is #2 in my book... it could be the years of my hand forming around ps controllers...

But.. the dpad is definatly the worst part about the 360 controller... I'm one of the few people who still will use the dpad for action games and such (though... after awile.. using the stick is more comfortable so.. it still happens).

It's really hard to go back to the Playstation controller after holding the 360's... it makes it feel really small and cheap...

First off, it's OPINION, not fact. There's a difference. Second, I'd have to agree for the most part-the pad fits like a glove in my hands, and just feels great overall. However, the D-Pad isn't quite as nice as it is on the Dual Shock/Sixaxis pads or the Wii's Classic Controller, making it less suitable for 2D games that don't use the analog aspect of analog sticks(a certain PS2 game comes to mind right now). On the upside, the X360 pad has better analog stick feel and placement IMO-I don't feel uncomfortable using them. Another disadvantage is that the wireless ones use a proprietary protocol, not Bluetooth. That means that I can't just pair it with a PC or my X50v. The wired ones conveniently support standard USB, but why leave it at that when the PS3 Sixaxis operates in both USB and Bluetooth modes? Overall, though, I think I'd still take the X360 pad.

It's okay. Very well constructed, but nothing special in the grand scheme of things.

CNET must not have used the 360 D-pad in their "analysis"...

mmm it aint bad but... it didn't bring anything new or spectacular. The 360 controller did not deserve that.
