The Xbox 360 Is Ten Years Old Today. These Are Its Top 10 Games, Voted By System Wars

Ten years ago on this day, arguably the best and most important, most influential system of the modern era, the Xbox 360 came and changed gaming forever, indelibly. So much of what we love about gaming today owes itself back to the Xbox 360- from Achievements to integrated online play and online communities, from indie games to the proliferation of so many modern game franchises, from third party friendly game development policies that completely changed the game to even the system's iconic controller design, widely considered to be the greatest ever- the Xbox 360 was a triumph. It will go down in history as a classic system.

For the system's tenth anniversary, I posed the question to System Wars- what is the system's best game? I asked, and you voted. Nearly 70 games were nominated, and there was no clear top 10 that coalesced right until the very end- a testament to just how varied and generally high quality the system's library was. Nevertheless, in the end, ten games stood out. The ten games that were the best on the system according to you. Here they are:

I only owned one of Gamespot's top 10 X360 games (Halo 3).

I was the first out of my friends to get the system, but also the first to get the RROD. It was good when it worked.

I prefer Xbox 360 exclusives more:

I disagree with the list, though! My personal top 10 by no particular order:

- TES V Skyrim

- Red Dead Redemption

- GTA5

- Halo 3

- Gears of War 3

- Mass Effect 1

- The Witcher 2

- Left 4 Dead 2

- Bioshock Infinite

- Minecraft

So none of the games I picked made it? Oh well... I would have thought Arkham City would at least get enough votes.

That's a pretty good list, although I have no clue why or how either one of AC2 or Brotherhood didn't make it into the top 10. Or Arkham City.

I owned 4 of the 10 games on the list, but my favorite memories include Left 4 Dead 1 and the Gears of War series. Had a lot of laughs. Obviously, this was before I played Left 4 Dead on PC with mods, m+k, etc. Going a little off topic, but it's crazy to think of how much longer a game lasts on PC. L4D still has a healthy population on Steam.

Halo 3 and Dark Souls belong there for sure, the rest is debatable for me.

Crappy list. Where's Fallout New Vegas (lolFallout3), PGR 4, Forza series, GTA V? Red Redemption is awesome though.

Great system. Had many good times with it (excluding RROD). Oblivion was definitely a standout moment. I was floored by how fun it was and how good it looked. Same goes for Gears of War. That games graphics were the defining moment for what next gen hardware could do. Rainbow Six Vegas and GRAW were my favorite online titles. So many great moments. Hated the launch titles. Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo were awful, but the system was great, and Xbox LIVE was fantastic. Happy birthday, 360.

lol these are what fans voted as THE BEST games on 360 without the multiplats it has 3 AAA games an AA and an A rated game. LMAO that's the best XBOX FANS could come up with for the system they praise all these years?

Goes to show that 360 really had **** all for amazing memorable games last gen other than being a Halo/gears rehash box.

When ever lems said they like xbox for it's exclusives I always felt they were full of shit because it really didn't have many high quality exclusives never mind GOTY award winning caliber titles like PS3.

Now I can see I was dead on target lol Lost Odyssey?...thought lems hated weaboo trash like this? But it was exclusive to 360 so I guess lems can praise it to the heavens now...despite being a mediocre 7.0 game, it still rates in the top 10 best xbox games of all time haha.

@kinectthedots: All multiplats ran at 10fps on the PS3 so they might as well been exclusive to King 360.

Not a bad list... certainly not my top 10. But has a few of my favs in there...

I never had a 360, but my cousin lend my his when he was abroad; I always have regretted for not beating Tales of Vesperia before it get the infamous RROD; when the PS3 got its own version I got excited but sadly that's one of the many "Japan only" Tales.

Never owned an Xbox 360 but can't believe that the system and last gen is 10 years old now.

Good list. Would have voted, but there were so many amazing games on that system picking 3 would have been too hard.

And picking between Halo 3 and Reach? I don't think I could have done it. I like Reach more, but I played A LOT of Halo 3.

Can't hate on the games that made it, honestly.

Lack of Fable II surprised me. I thought that game was more popular on this forum.

I actually just fired up my 360 for the first time in a loooong time to play some Rage. Crazy to think it's been that long.

tbh I would've thrown L4D2, GTA, and Forza 3 on the list.

All i know is it feels nice to share a birthday with the Xbox 360, and Xbox One. :) Alan Wake making it is awesome.

Personally: Gears 2, FM3, Reach, Viva Pinata, and Crackdown. Console exclusives like L4D, TW2, and Mass Effect were a big deal too.

*EDIT* I should mention that COD4 and H3 were the best times I had with FPS multiplayer since the late nineties. COD4 was soo fucking good.

Because I'm cool with the argument that is based around you thinking those games are better, that's all fine and dandy (though complaining about a top 10 community vote list is a bit absurd), but a game needing to make the top 10 for the sake of being exclusive, in fact I feel plenty of people voted some exclusives solely because they were exclusives, and not because that was the best game the console had to offer. Which is what the thread asked, what were the best games on the 360, and in the PS3's case as well, even with a larger selection of exclusive both lists would and frankly should be filled to the brim with multiplats. They absolutely were the best games those systems had to offer, an exclusive here or there didn't really change that.

Dude this makes you the frontrunner for President as far as I'm concerned. Its just logic. BEST GAMES, every gen are mostly multiplats.

Strange list, seems like folks who played their multiplats elsewhere voted for exclusive titles, I'd expect Bioshock or Portal or GTAV or Batman etc to pop up here over Lost Odyssey for instance.

Well not every gen, it's more so these past 2. I think too many people remember when third party could make exclusives, and forgot that even back then the third party made the best stuff usually (a first party IP being strong here and there along the way), it's no different now. The thing is budgets have increased to the point that third party show up on just about everything. But yeah, best game is best game is best game. And the best stuff those consoles had to offer were mostly multiplats.
