By simply mentioning "Halo Killer", you're proving that Halo is a great series and has become the standard that all "good" games are supposed to be judged by.

It's tough to say but ummmm.. yup, Reach will indeed harm (not kill ) the Halo 3 community and many, many will leave the Halo 3 games and move to the Reach online games. Well, not really as Reach launch day will likely make me... :D
Halo didn't raise the bar to start with, it just took a bunch of things and put them all in the same package competently and popularised regenerating shields/health, which wasn't a good thing.
Games shouldn't be compared to it because there is no "standard"... Halo had acceptable gameplay when it came out, but Halo 2 and Halo 3 just convoluted a formula in in want of improvement.
By this time I would imagine that any and every gamer that has at least been involved in the medium since 2004 would know the name of Halo. If a game reaches a stage where any gamer that is more involved than the confines of the mini games found on the Wii then there is indeed no stopping the Halo franchise.
But of course, the only thing to take out Halo, is another Halo.
quake 3 set the bar ;) Then warsow blew it.Halo didn't raise the bar to start with, it just took a bunch of things and put them all in the same package competently and popularised regenerating shields/health, which wasn't a good thing.

I say the game Bungie makes after Reach will better than any game they have created beforehand.By simply mentioning "Halo Killer", you're proving that Halo is a great series and has become the standard that all "good" games are supposed to be judged by.

Well as i look on gaming and electronic media, "killer" means everything that can compete with a target that came first on some hills. You can't kill any game since it's good on it's time and you can't blame that game that is worse then newer games
TC, you're right. There is no Halo Killer. Just like there is no Gears Killer, Uncharted Killer, FF Killer, or anything stupd like that. Because discs can't kill discs!
Mario is a halo killer.18.6 units mario kart wii beat that halo :PFightingfan
Then Wii Sports is mass destration weapon that kills everything
Well IMO but nothing going to "kill" halo. But I personally think Cod has matched it in terms of popularity and fanbase.
halo is like saw or halloween.....its annoying, lost its charm, and yet they keep making sequels with less and less quality
Says what you know about the storyline then.halo is like saw or halloween.....its annoying, lost its charm, and yet they keep making sequels with less and less quality

I wonder if it'll be skip school/work worthy. Hell yeah!!! I'm probably gonna skip a couple days MINIMUM to play itThere is no Halo Killer because there hasn't been a FPS yet to grab all of Halo attention and steal all its sales, no even Modern Warfare has done that. That's why there is no Halo Killer, because as long as it still sells well its not dead, even if there are better FPS' around.
The most likely game to be a Halo killer is another Halo itself. Halo will go on until it tires its fanbase out with mediocrity like ODST and Halo Wars. I thought Halo: Combat Evolved was great. Halo 2 was entertaining as well. Halo 3... eh, online could be fun playing with friends, but it lost some appeal. I have not played ODST, but just as many people that I know have disliked it as have liked it.
The biggest thing that makes new Halo games fly off the shelf at video game retailers is the Halo name itself. That is bound to lose weight in deciding whether or not to buy the games sooner or later. (This happens with all IPs, eventually. Except maybe FF, somehow) ODST will definitely have turned some people off from buying a new Halo installment.

While I agree that there is no "Halo Killer", the rest is a bit disingenuous. Nearly every time this term has been used after the first Killzone, it wasn't used to hype a game, but rather an attempt to diminish a game (usually on a Playstation platform) by judging it according to impossible standards. Standards which would involve not only being better than Halo, but so much better that Halo becomes irrelevant and abandoned. Coincidentally, Halo was never judged, itself, by similar standards.

ODST and Halo Wars were far form mediocre. And I always roll my eyes at the idea that a game sells because of angelic symbolism.[QUOTE="SpiritOfFire117"]And I always roll my eyes at the idea that a game sells because of angelic symbolism. :roll:Duxsox56
I bet if Bungie put Rogue Warrior in the Halo universe and slapped a Halo label onto it there would still be over 200,000 copies sold.
That's BS and you know it. However, if Bungie made Rogue Warrior it would had certainly turned out better than it did that's for sure.[QUOTE="SpiritOfFire117"] ODST and Halo Wars were far form mediocre. What? Do you mean like this or this? :P
While you're at it, could you give me a link that tells me that those games sold based on their names alone? :P[QUOTE="lazzordude"]
love it or hate it, it IS the standard for console fps
hamhero
even if it hurts to admit it, it is what it is. people love halo online. you might also hate WOW but numbers do not lie. lazzor is right.
I love both Halo Online and Wourld of Warcraft Online so, lazzor and hamhero are right.

Maybe you wouldn't fall into it, but there would definitely bea large number of littlekids running to pick up the game on day one because it is Halo. Some would even go as far as to say it is a good game, because they are so blinded and expect it to be good.
And while I don't doubt that Bungie would have made Rogue Warrior better than it was, even if they didn't it would still sell a lot better than it did, even better than some hidden gem original IPs.
Halo + Hype = $$$
And to seem less fanboyish I will say that anything with the God of War name would likely sell well regardless of the quality also.

ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME THAT ANGELS EXIST?
I definitely agree. In my opinion, there's no way any gamer that knows what they're talking about can dispute the significance of Halo:CE. There are however, quite a few recent shooters that are far superior to Halo 3, so in that sense there is such thing as a "Halo Killer".

Ugh...This again? :x
1. The average age of gamers in this current era is far beyond that of the hyper-active little ****s known as children. So, the whole 'Halo is overly populated by little kids' argument is just a bunch of bull**** and chips. (If you don't believe me, believe theESA)
2. Hype driven games are exactly what they are - hype driven. If a game is hyped up to be the best thing ever, but turns out to be a genuine piece of ****, no one would dare to buy whatever else bears the name.
3. What exactly is so bad about Halo? What does it do so wrong that makes you believe that it sells on hype, and hype alone? There isn't a single critiquing force that says that Halo is less deserving of a AAA franchise.

Yes! They speak to me from time to time and tell me it's foolish to think that a game sells based on four letter title and not on quality.Dude, don't waste your time. A lot of people claim this "it sells because of the name Halo" thing. Yeah so the almost universal critical acclaim is all luck, and has no bearing, right? 1. There is still an overwhelming amount of players under the age of 17. You can realize that just by playing the game with a headset. Also, I know of many young kids that play Halo, as young as 10 year olds.
2. Obviously very few games hyped up to amounts like Halo or God of War or Call of Duty have ever been a "geniune piece of ****", but often times games are overrated because they are expected to be good, so people believe they are good, sometimes better than they are. (Yes, I know the converse of this does sometimes occur, where a game is ruined by the hype it cannot live up to, but then again it is about the player of this game, where intense gamers are more likely to have this reaction) Halo, I believe, is full of casual gamers. People who are just trying to have fun with friends, which Halo is great for. These people sometimes have their ideas of the quality of the game distorted by the views of others and the hype surrounding the game.
3. I never said that Halo is a terrible game. I quite enjoyed some of the earlier installments of the series. The thing is that the main reason it has achieved the exalted status that it did is because of the hype created by the successes of the original games. I would not deny Halo of a AAA rating. I, myself, would most likely given Halo 3 a AAA rating. But Halo is at a position that is not held by many other AAA quality games, which may, in reality, be superior. Halo is not sold on hype alone (because they are all of above average quality games, worthy of purchase. ODST and Halo Wars debateable), but the hype certainly is a driving factor in the monumental sales and recognition that it gets.
