I. What is Too Human?
Too Human is an Action/Adventure game that is being developed for the Xbox 360 from Silicon Knights. If you're not familiar with Silicon Knights, they're the ones who developed Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for the GameCube, Blood Omen for the PlayStation and PC, and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for the GameCube. The game revolves around highly advanced technology and how it affects mankind. Too Human is the first installment into the Too Human trilogy and the setting is influenced by Norse Mythology.
II. What will the gameplay be like?
Think of Diablo, Devil May Cry, and God of War. You'll be in a third-person view with cinematic cameras. The player has the choice of several weapon types, including swords, hammers, pole arms, pistols, rifles, lasers and more, along with cybernetic upgrades and different (or upgradeable, it is unknown at this point) armor. It was said by Denis Dyack (President of Silicon Knights) that the right analog stick (of the Xbox 360 controller) is crucial to the games 3-D fighting. The game will utilise a complex 'tree based' skill system that will allow the player to fine tune their characters abilities. Too Human also allows for on-line cooperative gameplay, but I'll get into specific in the upcoming roman numerals.
III. What is the story about?
The game is directly based on Norse mythology and set in the distant past. The gods as we know them to be are cybernetically enhanced humans. The player takes on the role of Baldur, son of Odin. Baldur is charged with protecting humanity from advanced machines who want nothing less than to exterminate the human race. Everything in the game has a direct parallel to Norse mythology, known parallels being the gods, Thor, Loki, Odin, Heimdall, Freyja and Mimir among others. The whole story will unfold across three installments. Silicon Knights is scarce with the story details, but Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack has suggested that the story might be a sort of futuristic prehistory on which the Norse mythology we know is based. Another sign of Norse influences is the runes on the box art for the game; they read 'Of God Of Man Of Machine'.
Footage of the game's early moments show the various gods worried that machines have been draining human victims of their blood for unknown purposes. This information suggests that while the human gods are becoming increasingly similar to machines, the machines may be striving to achieve the exact opposite and are harvesting blood as a means to create/become humans themselves.
IV. Will there be on-line play?
It has been confirmed that Too Human will have on-line cooperative gameplay with up to 4 players. Xbox Live Gold is most likely required for on-line play. It was said that you can join on-line games from the get-go From games already in progress to just starting. As with Microsoft's on-line gaming services, there will be no fee required to play Too Human on-line, but you must have paid for the Xbox Live Gold service.
V. I heard that there were 5 character ****s. What are they?
From the IGN Too Human article:
The Bioengineer: "A master of cybernetics as well as mundane combat, the Bioengineer repairs damage sustained on the battlefield. He increases health bonuses for himself and his allies enabling them to take the fight directly into the heart of the enemy."
The Commando: "Favoring technological gadgetry and standoff methods of warfare, the Commando specializes in the use of mines, countermeasures, demolitions and rifles. Able to support his allies through long range, harrying tactics, the Commando is truly a force to be reckoned with."
The Champion: "The Champion represents Odin's divine force of retribution. A strong warrior able to deal out a wide variety of caustic force field and anti-gravity based effects, increasing the combat effectiveness of his allies. One-handed weapons are the Champion's chosen tools of combat."
The Defender: "With the blessings of Odin and runes of protection, the Defender is the backbone of the Aesir's defense. Heavy armor enables the Defender to absorb a tremendous amount of damage, leaving his allies to take the battle to the enemy unharried."
The Beserker: "The Beserker delights in the fury of close combat, forgoing defensive strategy in order to adopt all-out offense. Adopting a twin-blade fighting ****and infused with the spirit of the bear, a Beserker will wade into battle for the glory of Odin."
VI. When is Too Human coming out?
There hasn't been an official annocluncement by the publisher or the developer, but Gamestop.com has a placeholder for 08/06/07 and the strategy guide being published by Prima to release on 7/27/07. Look forward to an announcement on Too Human at E3 this coming July.
VII. Too Human looks amazing! What middle-ware engine is it running on?
Indeed. Too Human does look good. The reason being is because it's running on the Unreal Engine 3. Which Gears of War was running on. For more information about the Unreal Engine technology, then visit this website: http://www.unrealtechnology.com/html/homefold/home.shtml
VIII. Is Too Human a trilogy?
Yes, Too Human is a trilogy that will span across 3 games on the Xbox 360. This is the project that Denis Dyack wishes to accomplish. After all, Too Human started life on the PlayStation and was suppose to be in a 5 disc set. That version got canned, but Silicon Knights and Microsoft created a partnership and Too Human is now back on track.
IX. Are there any gameplay videos I can watch of Too Human?
Yes. This is an interview with some of the Silicon Knights devs as well as gameplay footage.

X. Will this game come to the PS3 or PC?
Not a chance for the PS3. It's being published by Microsoft. As for the PC, it's highly unlikely at this point since there has been no mention of a PC version.
