To be fair, your also looking at $199 vs $599 so Sony had more reason to PD. Also Xbox price Dropped it's first year, but then Xbox wasn't in to win it, but mearly grab the attention of gamers.

Sony had to price drop because it had to, the problem is $500 is still out of Mass Market reach, and the Xbox can price drop whenever it decided to. With the 65nm Xenon/Xenos chips coming out...even further reason to.

Holiday 07 is going to help paint the picture to what the rest of this gens console wars will look like.

ide say its taking a hit because of the amount of brake downs, bad cust service from microsoft and the cost to get equipment to go online and then pay to play online. To me paying for online is stupid.

But would microsoft not make the money back quickly with the equipment sold and the online subscriptions? several million people paying 40 odd pounds a year must stack up.

I get it. When Sony does a price drop early it is because it's failing but when MS and Nintendo do the same thing it's considered competing. Besides, having an early price drop is probably better than having to extend your warranty and refund money for faulty hardware.
