Is that hit or miss?

In talking with Polygon, Trinen was asked straight up if the Nintendo Switch 2 would be the first Nintendo system to include the feature for its games. Trinen’s response was a pretty firm one-word answer.

“Nope,” he said.

Hope for achievements on the new system took hold when it was revealed that both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom would have them. Of course, they would be tracked on the Nintendo Switch app as opposed to the system itself, but they’re there.

Achievements are a nice addition to games regardless of what anyone else says, but they're not essential.

I think Nintendo should have some sort of reward system for those who like it. It can also have people spending more time on your games, and as we know engagement numbers are all the rage for these companies nowadays.

Achievements aren't important to me for the bragging, because I know nobody looks at my achievements. They're helpful when trying to remember. What order did I beat the bosses in Dark Souls II the first time? What was the hardest covenant for me to find? Did I do the dark ending or the good ending the first time? What year was that? How long did it take me to do everything? That kind of thing. It can be useful in forum conversation.

I wasn't expecting to be such a thing, so this isn't a big deal. Trophies and Achievements to me are, "I either got it by chance or not" and they aren't my top priority unless I need this little thing before I trigger my reward. If it's MP only, GTFO!

If Nintendo wants to do such a thing in the future, just call them Medals I guess.

That sucks. I really enjoy Achievements/Trophies but it’s not a deal breaker or anything if they aren’t there.

Eh, they're a nice addition but not even close to an issue.

If they implement achievement like trophies then it be a miss personally. Trophy hunters are the biggest 100% completion community and still going strong cause trophy system felt like a reward for aiming to complete everything. I dont care how many achievements in steam or gamerscore back when I used xbox but I do enjoy platinuming titles and sharing them with like minded people.

I enjoy the trophy system that Playstation has and also the achievement system for Xbox and was much bigger into it when I was younger; especially on the Xbox 360 trying to chase the 1,000/1,000 completion rate...for some reason it made me feel like I had completed the game fully and got to experience everything...eventually as I got older I got more annoyed with achievements and how some developers would set them...online only achievements were a pain or like insanely difficult achievements I didn't bother with. Same with achievements that require fetching all the collectibles like so tedious...

Now when I game on PC...I just try to beat the game...it's easier for me to know I can just focus on the campaign and not worry about having to do everything to scratch my itch for completion

As for Nintendo...I always thought they would add their own style of achievements in the form of like stickers...earn stickers or stars for beating games and have a way to showcase it on your profile

Really don't care for achievements but can see the appeal for some people. Achievements never really got me into completing games 100%.

Even if Nintendo had a systemwide achievement system, I could only imagine the hoops one would need to jump through in order to show them to friends. It would be a project.

If they added them it would probably be restricted to Nintendo Online and they would use it as a reason for a price bump or something so it's probably better that they didn't add them.

@Solaryellow: That's very unfair, you would probably just need to share your 64 alfanumeric code with your friends. Very practical and intuitive.

I don't think that kind of stuff appeals to the majority of Nintendo's customers.

Lol. Even when you adjust your expectations for Nintendo to be 20 years late to a basic gaming feature... they still miss the deadline :P

I guess they just do not want to maintain servers that would store the achievements data.
