I got Dead Space 2 for $7 through gamefly so I decided I have to beat DS1 to play Dead Space 2. One thing i noticed aside from the great gameplay and scary moments is that nobody else can get off their lazy as$%#@ to lend you a hand. Sheesh..

Isaac is an enginner, it's what he's meant to do. The others couldn't really help with those objectives, and in all fairess the others did help with various tasks. Both great games, but the first is better.

Haha I actually agree. I thought you were talking about the sequel for a second, and was really starting to wonder if it was like the first one.

I enjoyed the game don't get me wrong, but they really did use that plot stucture to get the game moving along--to be honest I found it to be very lazy. I can understand that he's an enginner like randomguy15 is saying, but just because he's one, doesn't mean that they have to center his progression of point A to B on constantly fixing things.

Placing more interesting plot elements or circumstances in the story to move the gameplay along would have improved a great deal more when it comes to immersion. Because of it, the progression of the game became extremely predictable, and when you couple that with a use of horror that is already predictable in the first place, it kind of downgraded the experience a bit for me. I still enjoyed it though.

You sound like a critic reviewer. It also sounds like you just read a review and regurgitated it at us. If you actually played the game, you probably wouldn't say that. I did not once care what he was doing... the atmosphere and everything else was awesome. Like others have said, he's an engineer in Dead Space 1. If everyone else did everything then what would you do? People forget that.

That is one of the few flaws with the games. the objectives are basically being an errand boy. Aside from that, they are gerat games!

Honestly I felt like I fixed that whole da%# ship by myself. Mind you I am not saying it sucks or I hate it, just saying I noticed this during my playthrough.

Totally agree. DS2 is one of the best games I've played this year (there have been a lot). Giving Isaac a voice, the new cinematic approach to storytelling, and the challenge of Hardcore Mode are just some of the things that I think made Dead Space 2 better than its predecessor. That, and the improved combat mechanics.

DS1 may have been more creepy and atmospheric due to how quiet it was and having a silent protagonist, but I feel like I cared more about what happened and about the story in the second game.

Sounds like 80% of all games ever made not to mention that Isaac just so happens to be an engineer.

The original is brilliant in it's own right but DS2 is just an extraordinary follow up. It had better not be forgotten when awards season arrives.Master_ShakeXXX

I liked Dead Space.
Dead Space 2 was boring.

Yay someone else agrees! Loved DS2 but a lot of people complain about it.

Well done TC, you've just described the majority of games because you're usually giving a task to do something of some sort. Isaac is an engineer so some tasks other characters in the game may not be able to accomplish as good as him, if not at all. The other characters in both games did help out but just behind the scenes and also to say that they didn't is ridiculous.

DS2 is my personal GOTY on the strength of HC-mode alone. After I got the plat, I went back to DS1 to plat that... thats when you really notice how much more polished DS2 is than DS1.

Both great games and a great series born this gen.
