Take out the blu ray player and charge an extra $200 for a seperate add-on.Add a cheap hard drive to the unit, like 20 gigs, and sell seperate hard drives for about $200. Take out the wireless chip, and sell seperate for $100. After they do all that, they could have dropped the price to $250. Then it would have caught on. I'm tired of hearing people complain about the PS3 price. After buying a wireless adaptor and dropping 40 bucks on two battery packs for the controllers, I realized how much more the Xbox costs. Also have to factor in I've spent over 100 dollars so far on Xbox live. People see the lower price and automatically think its the better deal, great move on microsoft's part though, sony should have done the sameLessThanMarcus
Those are the worst ideas I have ever heard. Your basically turning the PS3 into the 360 buy making people buying "add-ons" which are overpriced, especially the wireless adapter. I think it's a good decision to have the technology built in. Why not just save up and get it all built in. Much less hassle.

This is the worst business plan ever, and yes it was MS's and why anybody would like it is beyond me. It's nice to have everything ready to go so you can game to the max when you get the console.

Exactly. If anything is wrong with the Xbox 360, it's the add-on thing. It's not really a good idea to do. I think Sony was smart especially making the Blu-ray drive, a built in part of the system. I also think it's a good testing platform for IBM's Cell chip. Sony has always been the leader in technology. They seem to set the standard when it comes to hardware.

i completely hate it when people say that the blu-ray player should've been left out of the ps3 when plenty of developers already stated that the space that dvd-9 offer isn't going to be enough for this generation and that blu-ray was a good way to go. Now why do lems keep on stating this is clearly beyond meermacness
O...M...G if that was true then the entire game industry would convert to making games on Blu-Ray by now...hell even from the start. My point is, tons of devs out there cannot afford to make their games look like Killzone 2 so call me crazy but I don't think they will be needing the space of the blu-ray for their games.

The add-on thing confuses people. When you buy a system or a gaming console you expect to be getting (or at least I expect) a good piece of hardware with most of the standard technology that comes with it. Now if the 360 came with built in Wifi, built in Hard drive (for all the SKU's), and possibly a built in HD-DVD (although I'm not sure about that), I would be willing to pay $100 more for a 360. But when you buy a PS3, your not only getting built in wifi and a built in blu-ray drive, your also getting the Cell chip. I'm not saying the Cell is the god of processors, because it's not, it's just a cool piece of new techology that nobody else has. It's really cool to look at the PS3 and say "I don't know what the Cell can do, but I have it sitting in my living room!" :)
