i know
i know....

im gonna get flamed for this but, i have to be honest...and say that most people who speak on the Wii's success just arent being genuine and leve out alot of points that are worth discussing.

for one. i keep hearing about how well the wii has sold. its hit historic numbers in such a small period of time. but did anyone even think to ask why?

the 360 was and is 400 bucks
the PS3 was 500-600 and is now 400 bucks
and the wii has always been 250 bucks....

thats half the price of their closest competition. absolutely price is a concern. but nobody ever really comes out and says "well yeah....obviously the cheaper console is going to sell". the media keeps citing the "innovative controls" of the Wii as a reaon for its success. but i would bewilling to bet the largest motivation for those Wii's selling would be........its cheapness.

secondly, shortages.
is it really that hard to make Wii's? many in the industry know like the rest of us, that nintendo is purposely restraining supply to inflate the sense of a shortage which in turn creates a perception of demand. i am sure that "the REGG" is working hand in hand w/ allof the media outlets to get images of desperate moms searching endlessly through the city streets for a coveted Wii onto you local nightly news. fa la la la la

and as far as the media...lets not get into the many copycat "commercial" like pieces that have been springing up lately. alot of websites posting "their" take on the Wii which just happens to look eerily familiar with other sites takes on the Wii. i mean we can pretty much assume these sites are being paid to post canned articles provided by good ole' NOA, but nintendo has denied this allegation...and its not like anyone will actually investigate this so...ah well

and thirdly...the games.
yes, there has been some great games...like 3 of them. but if your gonna be honest....the wii has now earned the reputation of the system with the most shovelware. thanks to an absolutely absent developer Q&A department, the wii has 20 brainquiz games for every SMgalaxy or zelda....

i just think people need to start using some perspective......so now , let me have it. flame me for using total common sense....

I'm pretty sure every single anti-Wii poster has said that at least five times.

But that's damage control for you.

the Wii is the most mass produced console in history and the reason the Wii costs less is because it has less advanced geraphics. You think developers give a crap how much a console costs when looking at its userbase?

No one cares if it's the cheapest. It's selling the most, and is gaining money on each console rather than the 360 and PS3 losing money.

I couldn't agree more there are 3 good games and after that they all suck.

I have a Wii and the only console I lack is PS3. But people dis PS3 but it look like it has better games than Wii.

Well....yeah, obviously the cheaper console is going to sell. But that doesn't mean it's a crappy console, if it was it wouldn't have sold this much.

You mean it's value.

You don't blindly buy products based on their merits. Anyone can make an amazing technical wonder with the latest technology. But if that product is too expensive for your target market to buy, what's the point? The balance of price and features, i.e. knowing what the market wants compared to how much they are willing to pay, is one of the most important factors to success in any business.

secondly, shortages.
is it really that hard to make Wii's? many in the industry know like the rest of us, that nintendo is purposely restraining supply to inflate the sense of a shortage which in turn creates a perception of demand. i am sure that "the REGG" is working hand in hand w/ allof the media outlets to get images of desperate moms searching endlessly through the city streets for a coveted Wii onto you local nightly news. fa la la la laEscobahr

Anyone with half a brain can see that they're not limiting supply, and anyone with an iota of sense would know that artificially limiting supply is just about the stupidest thing a company can do. But then again, I didn't realize you were an ignorant fanboy. I guess it's time for reasonable people to leave this thread. Goodbye.

Price doesnt influence its popularity... Nintendo opened new markets, old people buy them now, different people. If sony released the PS3 at 250 it would have sold more but it wouldn't have outsold the Wii.

I like how you assume that Nintendo is restraining the supply despite the fact that they ship 1.8 million Wii's monthly. I'm willing to bet thats more than MS and Sony ships monthly.

Gamecube was cheaper than the PS2...

Did the Gamecube win? No.

People consider games whent hey buy a system and the Wii has more games at a cheaper price.

I can't believe people ae still talking about the wii's price. Remember how expensive the Gamecube was when it was released? remember how it sold? It's not a simple as cheap=good sales.

the shortages are hard to prove. We can't say for certain how many are sitting in nintendo's warehouses.

no body cares... wii is dominating this gen, so stop bashing it, ultimately its a product and the goal of a product is to sell... so it has more than reached its goal. let it go and move on... the wii is ausome, if it isn't for you than keep it to yourself 8)

None. Nintendo's stated that they had to change their business practices because of the Wii's success. They typically start stockpiling consoles in August, but because of the Wii's year-round success, they haven't been able to.

once again your not being genuine

when the cube launched at 249.99
the ps2 was 299.99

thats only fifty dollars more...so to then try and apply that scenario to the Wii when its 150 dollars cheaper is a reach to say the least.

and my freind brought up a good point about supply constraints....someone raied the point that why would a company purposely limit their pipeline of product?

well think tickle me elmo. those scenes of mothers pulling eachothers hair out on the news got more sales than 2 million dollars in advertising.

The Cube launched at $199. The Wii is the first Nintendo console to break the $200 launch price. Try again.

As for the Tickle Me Elmo analogy, you have no way to prove that. The news showed people getting shot over the PS3 and $3,000 eBay prices both before and after launch, yet we all know how that did. Visibility does not automatically result in sales.

Good post, but its still only one of many reasons why Wii's ''success'' is blown out of proportion.

Eh, I wouldn't say that :P.. there have been way better threads criticizing the Wii's success.
Not to mention this one's basically been debunked already.

C'mon now...your fanboy is showing! The Wii was so hyped because of its motion controls and it still is. Everyone one wants in on teh waggle fest...

many in the industry know like the rest of us, that nintendo is purposely restraining supply to inflate the sense of a shortage which in turn creates a perception of demand.Escobahr

No proof of that but logically that would not make any sense from a business perspective. No sorry...fanboy mentally.

I agree there has been a parade of bad games on the Wii which was expected. One of teh biggest complaints was lack of 3rd party games. Now there is a plethora of 3rd party games so now ppl are complaining that there are too many shovelware games...which is a legit argument.

Any true gamer can acknowledge what the Wii has a great library sans shovelware. Zelda launched with the Wii along with Wii Sports which is alot of fun. Trauma Center is a great game that was overlooked for being a port from the DS although it had good content and made good use of the remote. There was the decent Call of Duty port for the FPS fans. Elebits came out later along with Wario Ware which were surprising great fun games. Mario Strikers also was insanely addicting and fun. Not too long ago Metroid Prime 3 showed up and cannot be denied as one of the Wii's jewels and must play games. Now there is Bwii, GHIII, Zack and Wicki and SMG all out very close together. All great game to play on the Wii. And I'm not even mentioning the VC library of clazic games! Sorry but the shovelware does not out weight the strong library of fun games for the Wii.

I have pretty much heard all of these arguments before.

I'm not saying your post is bad or anything, I'm just saying everything here has already been discussed.

At the end of the post though, I didn't like. You said everyone should attack you while you use common sense.

When you said the Wii has like, 3 games, that not common sense, that's just opinion.

The Wii & Wii sports bought with one game costs over $318.00 after taxes

The 360 Live Arcade system comes with a disc of 5 Live arcade games & 256meg card for $293.00 after taxes plus a game $341.00

The price difference to get started with a 360 as opposed to a Wii is hardly worth mentioning.

By the way the 360 had a years headstart on both the Wii and PS3 and yet it's not the sales leader...and don't give me that bit about price because the core system was also released at launch for $299.00 and still it struggles behind the Wii.

So you know what i'm wondering ... Why can't the 360 & PS3 fanboys just admit it already, because too much time has passed now

(over 1 year) to be exact for you guy's to still be clinging on to the old "cheaper price, gimmicky controller, parent preffered garbage".

Just admit it, The Nintendo Wii is the more innovative, fun to play console and that word has spread and therefore people want it.

So cry all you want Nintendo's already won.

a company would be foolish to artificially withhold supply at this time of year. that will not create more demand, it will create pissed off shoppers likely to spend thier money elsewhere.

thier goal would be to have just enough in supply to meet the demand.. no few, no surplus.

your arguments are pretty bad

the price thing is just ridiculous. if the Wii is so much cheaper then why did you buy something else? oh that's right, because it's what you wanted. people buy what they want not just what is cheapest.

that's like saying people going to a bar to drink beer will end up buying pepsi just because it's cheaper but they don't care because they're both liquid

it just doesn't work like that

people buy the wii because they want it. case closed.

Regardless of shortages it is selling a lot.

I stopped reading when you said that the 360 was $400. Try $280.
