We all know that even with MS's endless efforts to win over Japanese they still aren't doing so hot in the land of the rising sun..but that doesn't mean they're giving up either.

Never give up! Never surrender!

Hm interesting. Lets hope it pays off in the end.

Old as the hills. I want the 360 to perform well enough in Japan that it gets more solid Japanese support (particularly more Squenix love than some MMORPG). If I see more Japanese dev love, I'm definitely getting a 360.

I'm already a fan of the 360 for its western game library...but yes it having more Japanese support is truly a plus.

This is old and not surprising. They are clearly trying to create franchises that the Japanese like with Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery and the unannounced japanese games that they say they are in the works.  They seem to be gearing up for the future.

They can keep trying, but I don't see any indication that they will succeed. Blue Dragon was one half of the dual weapon strategy to win Japan (the other being Lost Odyssey). Given Blue Dragon's performance and ability to move 360's, I don't see LO as having a revolutionary effect. There are other Japanese 360 games, but none as big as BD or LO.

I think Microsoft are doing everything they can to shift the 360 in Japan, but to little avail. It's funny though as they have the systems, they have the games, they have some hype in Famitsu magazine, and they have Sakaguchi's RPGs. It's almost a mystery why the hell it isn't selling, despite the Wii and PS3 sales waning after the holidays.

A big part of being successfull is knowing when to cut your losses....the Japanese Market is not to be had by MS....they could be devoting their resources elsewhere....

Maybe, but if they did keep trying and they eventually won support, it would probably pay out big in the long run. They wouldn't be doing all this if they didn't think it was going to pay out somewhere down the road.

Even if they don't gain Japanese support, I really don't care!

As they are making and putting out some great JRPGs at the moment, it's just giving me more diverse and good games to play!

I think honestly it comes down to pride....in Japan MS is hemoraging money....if they don't gain any traction this round it'd be just foolish to do it again.....

They seem pretty keen on selling more units in Japan. At least the Cube isn't outselling it anymore.

Still doesnt help the fact that its Microsoft. No one in Japan is going to buy a console just for a few RPG's which are bound to be mediocre considering they are being pushed by the one company that fails in Japan.

If they keep throwing their money around to get games like BD and LO , I guess it is a good thing because at least it keeps games away from the ps3.

Blue Dragon , if released on the ps3 , probably would have made the PS3 a hot hot system right now.

Yeah I mean they have to be mediocre RPG's considering I mean, what other games did Sakaguchi make? Final Fantasy series? Bah! Totally a mediocre series. And I mean just look at Blue Dragon's Famitsu score. 37/40 - AAA. Totally a Mediocre score. Thank You DSgamer64. Thank You for bring your unbias opinion to this thread.

I don't think it's a problem because I think games like BD and LO will have cross country appeal. They're going to help push systems and sell pretty well over here in America (LO better than BD though). So as long as Microsoft is able to Localize the games and make a profit they need to stay in Japan because even if the system isn't selling well over there it will help build the reputation Microsoft will continue to support their systems. If they pull the plug, then they'll never be able to win the support they need in Japan and might lose the Japanese developer support they're slowly gaining.

I think it's pointless for Microsoft to keep trying to get the xbox name in Japan. They just hate it and the only way MS will stand any kind of chance is if they do something drastic like buying a major Japenease developer. I mean really, look how much Capcom's exclusives have helped the 360 in Japan :P

But yeah, it's just stupid for them to keep going at the rate their going in Japan.

Microsoft cannot move units in Japan because all the big Japanese game franchises are on the Playstation 3. It is about content more than anything else. The Japanese know that by buying the PS3 they will be able to play the sequels of all their favorite games that they saw on the PS2.

All the Xbox 360 is doing is bringing to the table NEW and untested Japanese gaming franchises, like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. These are franchises that Japanese gamers are unfamiliar with.

I don't think the Japanese hate the Xbox 360. They just don't want to own it because it doesn't have the game franchises that they desire: Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest, Gran Turismo.

If Microsoft tomorrow announced that they signed an exclusivity deal to bring Final Fantasy XIII to the Xbox 360, Japanese gamers would change their tune and opinion about the 360 lightning quick.

You have to give props to MS, whether you hate them ore like them you have to respect that they are making a huge loss and still making huge multi million games for Japan.

I think their effort will pay off and they will do much better this time around with the 360 in Japan than they did with the original Xbox.

But they will still be a distant third as long as the big Japan franchises appear on other platforms.

Don't forget these franchises were, once upon a time, untested to the Japanese market. Establishing a new franchise, that is good for the most part, will surly pay off in the future with its sequels.

Metal Gear is the ultimate stealth game. Dragon Quest is the ultimate old school rpg. Final Fantasy is the ultimate flashy rpg. Gran Turismo is the ultimate customizable racer. These games are all cream of the crop for their respective genres. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are taking the 'safe' approach by copying other games. I dont think these run of the mill clones will pave the way for the future.

Microsoft should no longer sell X360 in Japan. Let the Japanese import if they want one.
