Hi everyone.

I need some advice. I m 23 and while i still have interest in playing video games I dont play a lot anymore (and dont have as much time....maybe once or twice a week. I have a ps3 collecting dust with a game library that i cant afford to buy. Im thinking about turning that ps3 into a wii and saving the rest of the money (i can use it towards my student loans). Anyone have both systems have an opinion on the wii....do you like it more.... I just need more of a casual gaming console....what advice can you guys give me? If say something offsaid I apologize Im not trying to point fingers as to which console is better.....just want some adult advice from people that have both systems!!!

At this point in time you can't really go wrong with a Wii as it's got a pretty comprehensive library of great exclusives. Although if you're wanting to go real casual, just get a DS ;)

Based on your comments, it seems like you are a bit cash constrained. Why even try to choose between a PS3 and Wii? If you can't afford to pay $60 for GTA4, can you really afford to pay $50 for SSBB?

So why don't you just get a PS2 instead? It has the biggest, deepest, and cheapest game library of any recent console.

I'd agree with you. It's probably the best way to go.

If you just want "casual" games and can't afford full priced games check out the Playstation store. A few I'd recommend are: PSN: Poker $9.99 and will give you hundreds of hours of playtime online if you like Poker. PSN: Bowling absolutely destroys Wii Bowling. I'd also consider Super Stardust, Blast Factor, PixelJunk Monsters and Everyday Shooter. Those are my favorites.

Also if price is an issue keep your eyes open for good deals. You can find tons of games for PS3 priced less than $30 now. I bought several of last years sports titles recently for $9/ea at Target and Orange Box recently at Target for $29 along with Time Crisis 4 for $29 off Amazon.

I have both Wii and PS3 and enjoy them both. I can honestly say after owning a PS3 you would be totally disappointed in the Wii. Like iamshivy said, "you are a mad man"

I would go with a deck of cards. Who knows, if you get good at poker you might win few bucks while doing it.

I would never trade my PS3 for a Wii...thats why I just own both. But owning both and comparing them, PS3 has alot more longevity for me.

I think it all boils down to the type of games you like to play. I personally don't have a PS3 but have played it and know a little about it. I do, however, relate to you as far as gaming goes. I like to game, but don't have as much time to game and consider myself to be more of a casual gamer. My three main systems at this point are:

Wii

DS Lite (2)

PSP

I've had a DS Lite for about 2 years now, a PSP for about one year, got my Wii this past December and just got the second DS.

I really like the PSP, but I personally am not able to find as many games that I like to play on it as I do my Nintendo systems. The last Sony system I owned before the PSP was a Playstation, I had a huge collection of games and rarely played it. Never really had any interest in Sony since the PS, but when the PSP came out, I liked the looks of it and what it could all do. The graphics are great, it does a lot and is a lot of fun to play. I mostly have it for commuting and/or traveling, when I can't play a home system. Generally I leave it home though and play it more when I'm at home. I think the main reason I leave it is because of the lack of games I have for it.

I've played PS3 and I think it is awesome, but like PSP I don't find many games for it I want. I think the graphics are amazing and if you can find games for it you like (and if money wasn't really an issue) I would definitely say keep it, but based on your situation, I think you may like a Wii more...

I find that with my DS and Wii I play almost everyday. Even when I don't really have the time, I will find time to play, when I can't play, I wish I was playing. There are days when I work until 4 or 5 in the morning, but before I go to bed I will play a quick game on the DS. I also find I work hours and hours, but squeeze in a quick break to play Wii. That's what I love about these systems, I always want to play them. There are more games than I will probably ever be able to play that I want. And more importantly there are games that I want to play all the time. There are a lot of games that I can pick up, play for a half hour or so and go on, but at the same time there are games I could play for hours at a time, so it really covers all different kinds of gaming. I feel a lot of games for PSP and PS3 are games that you need to have more time to play.

I really think both systems are great and it mostly depends on the situation and the games that interest you the most. If it were me, I would keep the PS3 and get a Wii as well. However, since that isn't an option, I really think that a Wii would fit your style of gaming quite well. Ideally, what I would do is get the Wii and a DS Lite with the extra money (if you have a commute where you can game, otherwise probably not something you need)

You have had experience with the PS3 and know how much you like it and I think you can get a feel for the Wii from the games available and what you read, so I think you will be able to make the decision pretty easily... I wasn't sure if I would like the Wii, but after having it a few months now I can say I have absolutely no regrets. I grew up playing my big brothers NES and then got my own SNES and still love both of those systems. I can honestly say Nintendo has me hooked once again, I've never been dissapointed with anything I've had from Nintendo.

Hopefully I don't get attacked for my opinions here. I know everyone feels their own way about gaming and the systems they prefer, but I thought I would just throw my 2 cents in. I'm not a hard-core gamer, I like to play casually and just for fun, I know Nintendo probably isn't the best to a lot of people, but for me it is exactly what I want. Since it sounds like we have the same gaming habits, I think this may apply to you as well.

Good luck with your decision, I'm sure you will be happy either way!
