After seeing all the games coming out for the 360 (mostly Mass Effect) I've finally decided that I should get a 360 and wait on a PS3... still like the system, but doesn't seem worth the money right now.

The only thing: is the 360 worth buying now, or should I wait a little bit longer? I've looked into it, because that's what I do before a large purchase, so I know about the RRoD. So I'm not sure if I should just wait a bit and hope new and improved hardware is put into newer 360 models.

Other motivation is that I'm pretty bored with what I have for games at the moment, and am impatient for something new... even though the 360 games I want still have a few months to go before release.

If I had to give any advice, I'd say wait until Sept. Then pick one up. I'm pretty happy with mine, so far.

I love my 360. And don't worry about the RROD due to the new warrenty. Microsoft will basicly fix your 360 everytime you get a RROD untill 2010.

Plus you get 2 free games everytime they send you the new 360 back.

Make out a list of 360 games that interest you and if there are enough exclusives there, then go for it. I, unfortunately, didn't do that and am stuck in the situation where most of the 360 games that I want are also on PC.

Really? I'd sell my 360 and put the money towards a PC. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I think console gaming is more fun than pc... Besides 360 hasn't that much of pc/360 games and you forgot to mention that pc games also make their way to 360...

I have a PC, but not a gaming one. I'd really have to buy a new PC if I wanted to play more recent games on it; it would be more cost effective, but I'm saving up for a new laptop.

Most of the games I want will probably be for multiple platforms, like Force Unleased and Assassin's Creed. Mass Effect may come to the PC eventually, but I have no idea when that will be, and again, chances of me having a PC capable of playing it are nil. The new laptop I get might be able, but I'm not sure.

Granted, I'll need something capable of playing Starcraft 2 anyway.

Ummm...didn't Microsoft announce that Mass Effect will be 360 exclusive for the length of the trilogy??? I have no doubt it'll eventually end up on PCs but if they wait until all 3 games are released on 360, you'll be playing it in 2015 :P

Honestly? You'd be happy with either a PS3 or 360. Just for the fact that you mentioned Mass Effect in the OP I'd swing towards the 360.

Yes, Mass Effect was the big turning point for me. I was originally thinking about buying a PS3, especially with the price drop. But the only exclusive that I was looking at was Heavenly Sword, which doesn't seem like enough to warrent a PS3 and FF13 probably wont be out for awhile.

I can always get God of War 1 and 2 for the time being.

Plus, if I had a 360 I'd probably get Halo... might as well if I have the system. Played the beta which was fun.

If I wasn't getting a gaming PC I'd probably have bought the following for the 360: Alan Wake, Unreal Tournament, BioShock, BiA, CoD4, Fallout 3, Half Life 2, Assassin's Creed, Left 4 Dead, Kane and Lynch, Rage, Project Offset, Mercs 2, Splinter Cell Conviction. Now that I am getting a gaming PC I'll get them for that, unless they're horribly optimised like Stranglehold.

There's still enough non-PC stuff on 360 for me to keep it (Mass Effect, Halo, GTA), it just doesn't seem as worth it to me anymore.

Well not to put it on a dusty surphace like that one obviously is. Might as well use it as a vacuum cleaner.

the new premium hdmi 360s have the new heatsink in them so that should help with RRoD but if you want to be even more assured you could wait maybe 2-3 months before the 65nm chips start showing up...for source go to joystick and find a news article they opened up the 360 and saw the new heatsink...

I'd heard about the new heatsink. And recently have read a lot about the new chip, but no idea when they'll be implimented.

It was a really hard decision, picking between 360 and PS3... I may still end up getting both, just one will have to wait awhile after getting the other. If I get a 360 now, I'll probably wait at least a year before getting a PS3.

As for the PC vs Console thing: I do prefer playing games on console if I can. I'll play RPGs and FPS on PC if I have to, but the only genre I'll play only on PC is RTS.

Check this out TC, if you are thinking of buying a Ps3 instead of a 360, look at this...

Ps3 599.99 + 60.00 for Warranty + 30 for HD Cables + 30 for Headset, = 720.00 not including tax

360 349.99 + 50.00 for Live + 20.00 for Charge Kit = 420.00 not including tax

That leaves 300.00 dollars for you to buy...

Bioshock, Gears, R6, Mass Effect, and Halo 3!!!!

Does that sound good or what, or you can have a Ps3 with no games, I know what I would take!!!

hmm, well from what i heard, the new chips won't be in the 360 until the holidays, so if you really want one you may just want to wait until the new models with the new chips are announced. Otherwise, you're looking at a large probability of RRoD.

I've had a 360 since launch day and it hasn't failed me once.

When deciding to buy a console you should find at least 5 games out at the moment that you want to play. I made the mistake of not doing that earlier this year and bought a PS3. Now it's just collecting dust while I'm waiting for a game to play that I don't already have for 360 or PC, or a game that comes out 2-6 months after the 360 version (Dirt, GRAW 2, Rainbow 6...).

here let me help, ps3 has a recharchable controller a bluray player, free online, all content downloads are free, upgradle harddrive.

360 you have to buy hddvd, xbox live, you must purchase all content, you haveto buy pay a $ 100 for a 20 gig hardrive whichonly comes with about 12 gigs, you have to buy a play and charge kit, to top it off 360 get red ring of death, so you dont need a warranty on ps3s.

For the price comparison:

I'd probably still opt for a 60gig PS3, so that's $500, and I don't have an HD TV to play games on, nor do I need a headset. Though I know overall that the 360 will be cheaper or about the same after buying extra stuff for it.

I don't know if I can think of 5 games out at the moment that I'd want for either console; though 5 games coming up should be easy enough: Mass Effect, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Force Unleased... probably a hockey game, haven't decided which one.

I know three of those are multiplatform, but I'd obviously get them for the system I had.

Bioshock, Gears, R6, Mass Effect, and Halo 3!!!!

Does that sound good or what, or you can have a Ps3 with no games, I know what I would take!!!

here let me help, ps3 has a recharchable controller a bluray player, free online, all content downloads are free, upgradle harddrive.

360 you have to buy hddvd, xbox live, you must purchase all content, you haveto buy pay a $ 100 for a 20 gig hardrive whichonly comes with about 12 gigs, you have to buy a play and charge kit, to top it off 360 get red ring of death, so you dont need a warranty on ps3s.

actually he was just listing the neccessary things for a good gaming expierience, i have no idea what you were trying to say with that HDD bs. And that warranty will only be needed a little bit longer.

okay for a neccesary gaming experience you canget warhawk thatcomes with a free bl;uetooth headset, and you dont have to buy a recharble kit.

O'rly, You don't need a warranty to protect you 600.00 dollar investment, Pfffttt get a grip. You don't think the TC knows Ps3 has a Blue Ray Player in it? 20 Gig HDD actually comes with 13 Gigs, and is more then enough. I have 12+ TV shows on my HDD, 2 Demos, Music, 15 arcade games, all my game saves, and Shivering Isles on there, and guess what, it still has 4.5 gigs left. So please just save it for another day O.K!

P.S you don't have to purchase anything on 360 if you don't want too, you don't have to buy an HD DVD player, I have played all the top titles 360 has to offer w/o one, and you will never need one. Oh yeah, I am Playing Bioshock...Have Fun!!

In the end they will probably end up the same price, can't really say off the top of my head and I'm too lazy to check at the moment.

Wouldn't bother with an HD-DVD drive, and the PS3 blu-ray probably wouldn't be that important of a feature. Not until one medium has won that war, I probably will not be buying any of the new video discs.

Like I've said: I'll probably end up with both systems in the end; I'm just really trying to determine which one I get now. It seems that the 360 has the exclusives I'm looking forward to more.

But I am spliting the system with someone, so I have to see what they want. I'm quite sure they'll conceed to whatever system I decide upon, but its still a good idea to talk things over.

are you talking about the $60 version where the $30 game comes with a $30 headset

why are you hyping that trash anyway? Both Bioshock and Blue Dragon were great games to hype.

Don't do it! 360 has better graphics more games, better online, and AAA titles galor, but you would be stupid to buy a 360 over the all mighty SonyPs3 because it has worse graphics no AAA titles a worthless "Free" online and its all for only $200 more. Its a no brainier! PS3 is the only console this gen.

Defiantly get a 360 first.

My PS3 is collecting dust right now. Looking forward to HS in September and LBP later on. Then it's back to dust collecting.
