there were rumors floating around in the press, and the FCC is testing a new PS3 SKU.

But they remain rumors.

They haven't said anything officialy yet, but there are a lot of hints and rumors.

I forgot his name, but an analyst or some videogame site said that Sony would release a $399 sku later this year or early next year. Ever since that more rumors started spreading and eventually we got to this point. Also, it's a fact that Sony needs to lower the price of the PS3 to compete with the other consoles. So, this coupled with the rumors gave people hope that it might actually happen.

Anyways, that's what I think.

It was Micheal Patcher I believe. I think they are baseing these predictions on a report that Sony sold some shares to raise money for their electronics division and reports that they are making a deal with a company to produce cheaper PS3s.
