This Christmas I realised why PS3 might win!

I own 360 and PS3 and this christmas my nephew made me realise why PS3 might win. He woke up christmas morning to a PS3 and when I asked him and his parents why they had chosen this over the 360 this is what they said.

His mum wanted it because on PS2 she was able to buy him games of his age group and she feels, "the 360 has all grown up game does it not?". My cousin wants it because it is the successor to the PS2 even though he went through 3 of them with disc read errors and the fact that in his youth club all of the other kids who have the 360 have had them break down and having to wait weeks to have it repaired with terrible customer service. And his dad bought it because he had heard these horror stories too.

This is why I think the PS3 will win, because of all those PS2 owners out there waiting to go next-gen. I know you will have many arguments against this but I don't think the average gamer cares if the PS3 has a few extra jaggies or frame rate drops because like my cousin they don't care and don't compare their version to the 360 version.

All they want is the brand name playstation under their television.

"Win" is such a relative word. Marketshare determines how gaming console ownership is distributed over the market. Mindshare determines who the general public views as the "generic" for the industry. Like Clorox is to bleach or Kleenex to tissue paper. Those are two different things. Last generation, PS2 owned marketshare at 70% but when non-gamers referred to a system spontaneously, Xbox always came out first.

The Wii already has sold more hardware with limited supply. It will likely garner the most marketshare, but not by much. The PS3 will eventually reach a more affordable, mass-market price point to reach a strong second in hardware dist'n numbers. The 360 will fall behind. But hardware is not the only bullet in the gun. Don't get me started on software...

Every since the price cut the 40gb ps3 has been selling more than the xbox 360 in Europe and other countries and in Japan (always have). It is only being beaten in America . However, the overall sales of the ps3 every month for the past 6 weeks or so have either been the same as the 360 or higher according to vg chartz.

ps3- 8.12 million sold (this are the sales till dec 23rd.)

xbox360- 15.32 million sold

the 360 was released an year before the ps3 and at that time the sales were at least over 8 million when the ps3 was released. Since than it as only sold 7.32 million, while the ps3 has sold 8.12 million. However, more games are being sold on the 360 because of hard hitters like halo3, gears of war, and mass effect. One with good eyes can easily see that the ps3 has a superior lineup of exclusives compared to other consoles. Here is a list-

If you look carefully any gamer will know that most of the old ps3 exclusives are multimillion selling franchises.

With all the good exclusives coming out next year, I bet sony will give the ps3 another price cut around march. (they always have a price cut around then)

This means the ps3 will equal or surpass the 360 in sales next year. I don't know about the wii though. just MAYBE that too but very unlikely. The playstation brand is very very strong. The ps2 has over 120 million users. According to a gametrailers year in review vid, an analyst said that 90% of the 360 owners were owners of the original xbox. Some ps2 owners have converted to wii. So there are still a large number of people waiting there on the ps2 for the ps3 to come to an even lower price or waiting for those good ol exclusives to com out. And then, they will go for the ps3.

By proxy you're claiming you yourself are part of this statistical "average" or at least know enough of them to have an informed basis of reference. Actually, a good amount haven't made the jump. The installed base of the 360 and PS3 together don't even come close to the total of PS2's out there. There are a lot of people sitting on the fence waiting to get into this next-gen.

And its awful that people buy stuff just because of the name on the box. PS3 didnt even get CLOSE to living up to the hype, yet dilusional, brand loyalty blinded, mainstream thinking people think it did, and think its the best console out there. Its even come to Sony sheeple fanboys using media, sales numbers and other non-gaming features to make it sound like the best. It SHOULD be a game console first! But, theres no need to try to communicate these things with the dilusional... Sony sheeple will always be Sony sheeple. They just happen to be the worst fanboys of the bunch... I will have one console this gen and that is the 360. Its proven itself and is a solid game machine FIRST, as well as a great media center and awesome online community.

Just returned it.Xbox360 is not the Playstation brand! I won't spend my time going through 360s like I did with the PS2. Especially when the Playstation games are better.

Yes, there are arguments against this, most will move from PS2 to the cheapest first (Wii), cheapest but with best graphics second (360) and the most expensive later (PS3)
