Back in 1998 was the year of the pc.
In the 90's and new mil., consoles also had a good run.
However, for consoles, this gen has had the greatest impact on casuals, hardcore gamers, and online players. post here if u agree w/me.

lol, you must be young. It's ok though because the Sega Saturn was pretty much DOA in the US. Many gamers have never even seen one in real life.

This gen is great thanks to online features
Also:
SNES + Genesis was the best
Sonic Vs Mario
Vectorman Vs Metroid Prime
Zelda Vs Golden Axe
And so many awesome titles

its not that i wasnt into games att back then i knew about the gamecube and xbox in 2005 the year they died abd didnt get to play all the games that was exclusive :([QUOTE="mitu123"][QUOTE="Guybrush_3"]The only game I played on there was Gex. Saturn didn't make it very far in the US but it's good selection of RPGs and gems like Nights made it worthwhile.
It also gave birth to House of the Dead on consoles :D

I've actually got Panzer Dragoon still.. don't have my Saturn anymore though :( It broke. Would be nice to see a return of Daytona USA on the Wii. The Saturn couldn't really compete from what I've read with its graphics ability, wasn't really made for 3d graphics..
TC I agree this gen has been the best yet for consoles :)jasonheymanI agree I think every gen it gets better with online, graphics, and whatnot. I must be wiered though cause I thought 6th gen was pretty much lame besides Halo and God of War. I liked 5th gen way more than 6th.
[QUOTE="Rocky32189"]No. The greatest gen was easily the 16-bit era. SNES, Genesis, and Turbographx-16.... so many good games.PAL360Do not forget NeoGeo! The best 16bit graphics ever!!! Yes, thanks for reminding me. The Neo Geo was amazing. If you count the Sega CD and Turbo Duo, that's 6 consoles in that era. I don't see how anyone could argue against the 16-bit era as the best period in gaming.

whats a saturn????Yeah, you basically just proved the point.
I'd say the 5th or 6th was the best. :P
I'd say that the X360 will go down as one of the greatest consoles ever but this isn't necessarily the best generation ever. Don't get me wrong, the ps3 is great, but it's essentially a gimped xbox with replacement titles that aren't nearly as good or as large in number. What really is dragging the gen down however is the wii. It's just the most sucktastic major console since a long time ago. Then again, I guess there use to be only two consoles in the past. Why you'll have lots of people saying no however is that they either own a wii or they forget about the games that aren't completely exclusive. In the SNES era and even ps1 time, almost every good game was exclusive.
I guess it's fair to say that while this generation probably offers the highest peak, when it's average between the consoles, it sort of stink mainly because of a very low loser console
--- And honestly, if it weren't for the fact that I played Halo 1 and 2 throughout last generation, it would have been one of the most craptastic. 2 good FFs, KH, and while there were some damn fine jrpgs, most were all at the end. There just weren't enough good games spread out diversly I guess

I would disagree on that. This are my reasons:
-The Wii has the great idea of standarized motion controls, yet 3rd party developers are doing a mediocre job on their development (a major reason for 3rd party games for the Wii to be crappy).
-The Xbox 360 is kinda expensive knowing that it lacks many additional features, and it still has a much too high failure rate (originally around 65%, now around 15%, both numbers are much too high). Also the relatively primitive wireless controllers, overheating problems and usage of disc tray.
-The PS3 is a great piece of hardware, but it boasts too much for most people (who needs a console that can use a printer!?). That's why it's so costly. It's also a somewhat overly advanced console (maybe too much for this gen, but good for a long console life span).
-The PSP is quite advanced too, yet the short battery life and the cheap excuse for an analog stick make it somewhat defficient.
-The Nintendo DS has the same problems as the Wii, only in a smaller degree.
-PCs have always been ahead of consoles in capabilities, so it's no fair comparison.
poptart, I mentioned Panzer Dragoon in another post and never played Nights. Each console this gen is flawed:
Wii-Too many shovelware games and the 2nd half of 2008 wasn't that great
Xbox 360-RROD, and I got it twice, enough said
PS3-Too expensive and has worse BC than the other 2 consoles
This gen has been terrible... with games that have almost exclusively been either shovelware, endless rehashes and multiplatform US style WRPG, FPS and RTS trash.
How anybody in their right might could say the seventh gen has been great I wish I knew their pharmacist. The PS3 and Wii are among the worst major consoles of all time and come to think of it, if it weren't for XBOX Live or XBLA, the 360 wouldn't be far behind either.
