Just what is going on this gen? When you bought a SNES, you got what you paid for and the the thing was reliable. No different versions and many great games.

When you bought the N64, you could drop it down a flight of stairs and the thing would still work.

Back in the day, nobody complained that the controller wasn't comfortable or it didn't have rumble.

Hardware issues? Nah, just dust needing a good blow off the inside of the cartridge.

Do what I do, get a souped up computer, play PC games till the next gen consoles drop in price considerably and they got greatest hit games for cheap. That's what I did before I purchase my PS2.

the ps3 is selling rather poorly compared to competition -- This gen Will improve in the fall and into 2008 -- many great titles are going to be released, but i agree -- as of now its underwhelming.

According to this PS3 will surpass XBOX 360 and Wii in a few months given the fact that the reasons you have stated for PS3 are subjective.

Actually I agree with you completely.

I want a PS3, but they've priced it too high. I'd like to believe that the 80gb will go down to $500 once the 60gb is sold out, but I'll have to wait to see it happen. Even then, that's like the top I'm willing to pay and I'd only do it once LittleBigPlanet is out.

The 360 is breaking too much to the point where it's totally off my radar.

And the Wii....so much promise, yet nothing has been delivered. Sheep screamed for months that the reason we didn't see new, hardcore games was because nobody expected the Wii to be a success etc etc. We were told to wait until E3- I did, and not a single hardcore game was announced as far as I can tell. I looked through the last 10 pages of videos on gametrailers and with the exception of MP3, I couldn't find a single f'n thing I was interested in. So despite its sales, right now I consider it a massive flop.

Screw the consoles get the handhelds, the DS and in some opinons the PSP are where it's at right now.

Anyway this gen really has started off terribly, and noone use this "nostlagia" crud.

This time last gen we had Devil May Cry, SSX, Tekken Tag Tournament, Morrowwind, Metal Gear Solid 2, Final Fantasy X, Super Smash. Bros. Melee, Halo, Guilty Gear X, Klonoa 2, Unreal Tournament, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Dead or Alive 3, Tony Hawk 3, Rogue Squadron, and Grand Theft Auto III.

As you can see this gen is an utter embrassment to the last.

And this is as of less then 2 years after the PS2 launched.

Seriously I find it extremly hard to believe that this gen isn't ridiculously inferior to the last at this time let alone par on it.

Yeah next gen has been meh. THe 360 has lots of great games for it though. not many AAA. by now PS2 had like 12-20 allready. But dont worry business is picking up this holiday and next year looks promising as well.

Agree completely. I still have a bit of hope left that it will end up getting better in a year or two.

Sadly I have to agree with you.Before this gen I was a huge Sony fan then Sony screwed me over and just as I saw a light at the end of the tunnel they screw me over again,and then Nintendo (who I'm also a die hard fan of) seem to be forgetting about me and going after a different kind of gamer,:( and don't even get me started on Microsoft.

I hope at the upcoming game conferences this year (E 4 all,TGS, X07) I'm proven wrong but I just don't know anymore.:(

I agree on pricing. Wii (especially its controllers)is overpriced, PS3 is too expesnive for a game console, the 360 is relatively expensive + has extra costs, and it seems the best games coming out rely on the same gameplay as almost 10 years ago.

But we're also human beings. Beings that raise our standards too high and expect more and more with each gen. Eventually there is a breaking point. The problem is that ever since last-gen, gamers expect excellent graphics, and if the visuals are great or 'up-to-scratch' then the gameplay will follow and be awesome. What happened to "wow, I hope I can do 'such-and-such' in this level," or "imagine the addicitveness of this game!"? Stop being so demanding. It's because of your demand that we're getting sequel after sequel after sequel. And when do get what we want, we throw it back at their face saying "It's not as good as the original" or "where was THIS feature!!!???" or "Why are the graphics crap?" even though this gen has technically devliered better games than any other gen.

A huge problem I'm having with this gen is that games are becoming more like real life and less like games. One reason I prefer Excite Truck over Motorstorm is BECAUSE Excite Truck is more unrealistic. I want to catapult an entire vehicle like it's a piece of plastic into the great wall of China. I want to soarhundreds of metresthrough the air and deform the terrain beneath me BECAUSE there's no way I can do that in real life.

I blame the gamer who expects too much of this gen. Take a step back, realise how FUN the game is, and then see if this gen sucks.
