This generation is pretty dull...

Compared to the last one. Aside from MGS4 we haven't really had any games on any console that is at legendary status. Last gen we had tons, now we are overwhelmed by first-person shooters and mediocore mainstream games (Guitar Hero, Call Of Duty...). The only genres that seem to be progressing are RPG's and fps'.While the technology has certainly progressed, overall game quality has gone downhill. Show me a game made in the past 4 years that can stand up to Half Life 2, The Sands Of Time, God Of War, Shadow Of The Colossus, Resident Evil 4...

The list goes on. Anyone else agree we need a decent game? :|

Are you just complaining to complain because all of those games you listed as top tier did not launch in the same year or anywhere close. It took quite a few years to build up all of those quality titles and during those years we had crappy and good games as well. As for this gen. I do agree FPS are too overwhelming, this is the first gen I played FPS online and it is already played out for me. However this gen. allows me to sharpen my fighting game skills thanks to standard online with most games. This is HUGE, my love for fighters is back and I still have quality titles under my belt likeMario Galaxy,Uncharted, HS, Rachet and Clank, Dead Space, MGS4, RE5, SF4, SC4 and more and its only been what two or three years for PS3 owners. Thats great!

valkyria chronicles is a SRPG with a touch of TPS.

i can say that between MGS4, SF4, RE5 and a pletheora of others, i fail to see whats dull about this generation

It's all based on opinion, but I think most of us can agree that 64 (Even if it wasn't last gen) destroys Galaxy. Bioshock, however, was great. I should add that one. Dead Space really just doesn't come close to RE4. But as I said in the OP, RPG's are most assuredly progressing but the rest are falling behind.

I'm not even counting all of the independent games, XBLA PSN and VC, DS and PSP titles that I liked. What the hell is wrong with some of you guys? This gen is awesome. What the hell are you comparing it to the last one for? Just frickking enjoy it.

Sadly as good as those games were they were not as fresh and innovative as for example Okami was last gen. All those games borrowed the gameplay from others just the settings are different for example Dead Space is RE4 in Space.

I wasn't a big fan of last gen and I don't think MGS4 is "legendary", so I guess we see things differently.

Dead Space was good but I preferred Silent Hill Homecoming. Bioshock was great the setting and atmosphere are what made it good.

This generation is pretty dull. Too bad people are blinded by the few high-quality games. In the PS2 and N64 era we had an ocean full of average to very good games, not excellent, but good. Now we have a ocean full of crap with few excellent quality games. The excellent quality games excel in almost every category while the crap games fail in almost every category. Previous gens had games that were good at something (mostly gameplay and graphics) and bad in the others which is better than plain crap.

Hasn't anyone noticed almost all the highly-rated games were in a highly-rated series so failure was almost impossible (KZ2 is an exception).

More series have failed this gen than gotten better (Need for speed series died completely)

Might aswell have called this regen since all it did was give us lower quality ports and sequels, nothing new.

seriously so far so dull, except for mirror's edge and valkyria chronicles every other game i played felt like this, either good but nothing new ( mgs4, uncharted oblivion, ratchet and clank, killzone 2), overrated ( gta4, halo 3, gears of war ) obviously i'm not gonna list all the games i played

I think we should call this the "Generation where all the fans ***** about everything" because seriously thats all I hear "Halo 3 is too similart to Halo 2, Killzone 2 r no good, Ps3 are teh sucks. Every game is a fps. Every game is casual, Wii is teh ruining gaming. RROD sucks lol. and most importantly "Its different so I insta hate it." ect. I mean really?

RE4,GoW 1,GoW 2,Onimusha 1,Onimusha 2,FFXII,Shadow of the colossus,DMC1,Morrowind,Halo CE,Halo 2,RE remake,MGS3,Soul Calibur 2 =14 games

So far I guess I'm liking this gen more than last gen.

I love fresh as much as the next person but I think that its starting to come down to what is fun and what is not. At the end of the day, I play games for fun and if they can provide me with that then I can live with the lack of freshness. People whine too much, what do you honestly want? Very few games will feel revolutionary when we've essentially ventured every realm of every genre. Obviously there are still lots of innovations to be had but the fact is, the market as it is limits that in more ways then most people would think. Just enjoy your damn games and be happy, lots of people would kill to play these boring rehashes you're always complaining about.

Actually, I don't care about visuals too much -- I'm not a fan of most downloadable content, since most of it probably should have come with the game on the disc and online,

I play online, but not too much, more of a single player gamer myself. Even with those things you listed, this generation has been very, very entertaining.

I've never ever put this much money into one generation before -- I have about 30-35 games for my Wii and 360 combined and I'm looking forward to eventually getting a PS3 to complete the collection.

One thing -- if you disagree, at least put some more effort into your argument.

PS -- I feel loved guys.

As far as i'm concerned, MGS4 single handedly makes this gen at least as prolific as the last, so no.

totally disagree. do you own at least 2 systems? do you have a good collection of games? if not then don't make your mind up.

Outside of a handful of RPGs I've been disapointed by most the games in that genre. Maybe my expectations are to high. I still waiting for someone to top XenoGears (PSX) and PlaneScape Tormrnt (PC) when it comes to story. Heck I want Square-Enix to develop a game that tops the likes of FF: Tactics, XenoGears and Vagrant Story.
