Currently each system has one great platformer,

Wii- SMG

PS3 - R&C: ToD

360: Banjo 3 (Ok it's not out yet, but I'll let the 360 fanboys have this one.)

All else I see on GS is a possible Jak for PS3 (Which I would definately buy) and maybe a new Spyro (Meh) EDIT: Forgot LBP, that looks great.

Anyone else know of any good platformers or agree that this gen could use some more? I loved growing up with these games and I feel like they're being phased out more and more for shooters and RPG's.

Sadly those haven't been much good since Naughty Dog and Insomniac sold the rights =\

New game journo's would contribute such dumb buzz words as 'linear' and 'over-done' ... that is unless its a mario game that because its such an old italian stereotype its somehow an indestrucable institution.

The following titles stand out for me.

Mushroom Men
Wario Land! Shake It
Oboro Muramasa Yotoden
LittleBigPlanet

Also Super Mario World 3: Yoshi's Island DS was released this generation, as was Contra 4 and Super Mario Bros. 4.

More of an action adventure game than a platformer. But I guess it could count.

Plenty of original, funny, visually stunning, and fun-filled moments await in Kameo: Elements of Power, which is the first Xbox 360 action adventure game...

Sorry, not really a platformer.

As for the DS...I'm not talking portable, HD gen.

And for those Wii games...none look really good, most are either extremely kiddie or seem like snooze fests (Mushroom men? seriously?)

Collect-a-thon, hate kirby with my guts, suck at Catlevania, didnt like them, have the console versions of Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones, hated the concept of mini marios in Mario vs Donkey Kong, have played enough Megaman games to not play anymore.

There, all done? And yes I know, its all my opinion, but NMSB2 and SM64 are the only 2 platformers I like on the DS.

well according to gametrailers

"kameo takes a new aproach on to platforming"

basically this: if by your standards Kameo isn't a platformer then neither is ratchet

Isn't GT the one who gave Halo Wars best RTS at E3?

Yea...I'll give you that it prolly has some platforming elements, but I'm talking about games that are primarily old-school like platformers (As in PSX esque, 3d old school, not NES and such) That's mainly breaking open boxes and moving platform manuvering.

EDIT: uhh...ratchet hasabout 4true "guns" most are things like the tonado launcher, razer claws, and lightning ravager...or the bee hives and such. Very few of the gadgets are aim and fire type of guns.

Then again, I have never played the game, but I give GS more credibility than GT, no offense.

I dont think we need more platformers, there are plenty, what we really need is more ADVENTURE games like Monkey Island etc.

Haha thats what those "next gen" consoles miss - great humor and hand drawn art

Good thing is that there are still some indie devs for pc

Sorry, only the Combuster, Flamethrower, Shotgun-thing, Negociator(RPG), and the laser beam thing are guns, the other 20 or so gadgets do other things, like disco balls and penguin tansformers and lightning whips. It's not much of a shooter at all, and GS says platformer.

I agree we have lacked some great platformers this gen. Ratchet and Clank is good but not as good as its predesscors. Super Mario Galaxy is one of the best platformers ever made because its different to the likes of Super Mario 64. They is a new Sonic game and Spyro game coming out but I won't get to excited about them because even though they look promising they will probably dissapoint.
