Think about it. $250-$600 for a gaming console, plus $30-$60 ($100 for Guitar Hero) for each game after that, and good ones come out every 3 months at the most. +Subscription fees for online play and content, around $60.00 a year. Then there's PC gaming, which often coincides with console gaming, requires constant upgrades in the hundred $s to keep up, and there's MMOs with monthly fees, typically $10.00 - $15.00 and expansions for another $50.00.

I could've bought a soccer ball for ten bucks =/

I agree that gaming is an expensive hobby, but its great. My sister is a gamer too, so that means she goes out less often, which I like. I would prefer my sister playing games rather than go out to clubs and dating guys or whatever :S

Not trying to make this thread sound too personal, but I love gaming even if it is expensive.

Here's a fix:

Don't buy games!

Rental services for the win.

I've played dozens of games thanks to Gamefly.

Gaming saved my life. With out it I would instead spend all that money on booze which is a ridiuclous amount and I would die in my attempt to drink all at once.

Joking.

yeah it is getting expensive as heck. plus this year doesnt help with all those good games. i can think of like 10 games i wanna buy for my wii from june 2 december. and even more on 360. and if i had a PS3, well then it would cut into the 360s mutliplats but also add on the sony exclusives which would mean id probably want like 30-40 games this year. which is to much money. ill probably buy like 10 tops.

The more, the better! :D Gamefly is great for those movie tie-in games, and those sports games. They just opened a distribution center in PA too, so people on the east coast will get games quicker.

I just signed up so that I could rent crappy games, and the 2 discs I recently received were fine. I guess it all depends who handles them. I wish some people could just rent a disc and put it in their console instead of playing hockey with the damn thing.

I spend about $5 dollars per day gaming.  Thats about $7000 over 4 years.

Thats plenty enough for a killer PC, a PS3 + lots of games and internet.

$5 per day isnt really that much, I know lots of people who go to bars almost daily and spend $20 or $40.

Dude, I probably spend that per year in gaming!

It's not particularly cheap, I guess. However, for time employed, it's hardly the most expensive hobbie out there... you can ask pervs, barhoppers and movie buffs for that :P

Yeah, but without video games, I'd be spending about 100 dollars a week on drugs/alcohol because that's the kind of town I live in.

I may spend $50-60 a game and about 3k for the consoles and PC, however in the long run though, they add up to be numerous hours of time killing fun. For me, thats a lot cheaper than what i'd normally do for other activities. Lets say i spend that 3k on just the consoles and the pc system, it should last me roughly 3 years, consoles last a bit longer, but my pc should hold to the medium threshold at that point.

So add in roughly $1000 for games in those 3 years, I'm looking at 4k in 3 years spent on gaming. These games tend to last me awhile however, since i play online. a day of hitting the town costs me roughly $40-50, but at times it Shoots up to astronomical amounts of up to $300 depending on what activites I do. With my life style, I'd probably end up shelling out 4k going out for a year.

Long story short: Games are actually saving me money, it restricts my social life, but its still saving me money

The Ps3 really isnt that expensive considering what it does for you and how much money i waste on a daily basis doing small things like eating...

games i want this year for ps3, must buys: ninja gaiden sigma, lair, heavenly sword, assassins creed, gta iv, and eight days.

possible buys for ps3 are: brothers in arms, haze, killzone 2, metal gear solid 4(if it comes this year must buy), ffxiii, nba live 08 and ranchet and clank.

man were will i get the money!

You're telling me... I just put together an incomplete list of 66 games that are coming out (or have been recently released) that I want to play. At an average of $40-50 per game that would total 2640-3300 USD just for the games alone. Then I would have to buy a 360, PS3, PSP and new PC to play some of them... so add another 2150 USD onto that. Plus I live in Canada... the home of where everything is more expensive than the States... totalling a whopping 5930 CAD. And then an HDTV on top of that... *faints*

I think limiting myself to a PC, Wii and DS is going to actually be a good thing this generation. Having all of them would be nice... but that is nowhere near feasible. For me at least.

I can go out to the bar and spend $60 in a night np (esp in Boston).  Have fun for a few hours maybe pick up a chick wake up the next day with a hang over. On the other hang buy a quality game for $60 and enjoy it for weeks and months at a time...I like to go out everyonce in awhile to blow off steam and prove to myself I am not a total hermit but I get a better deal from gaming...$300-$500 every 5 or 6 years isn't to bad of an admission fee. Hell some chicks (not the ones I go for mind you) require that weekly thats a hell of an admission fee ;)

i've got a PS3, a 360, a wii and a DS.... i bought a HD projector, a HD tv, a good 5.1 surround set, a good receiver and a lot of cables to make sure it all work the way it should. then there are the extra controllers, headsets, etc, and ofcourse: the games....

i don't even want to know how much money that cost me, but i AM enjoying it.

What is expensive is coming up with the $600 to buy the system! *Ya I want a PS3* Especially when you got bills, and alot of other expenses.

But once you actually get the system you can rent games and what not to save you alot of money. Gameznflix.com is a great place to go for that type of stuff.
