"I will admit that at first glace, the game certainly did not impress my eyes. However, having spent the later half of the day playing the two maps of the beta, I will say that it has grown on me. Yes, it does look and play very much like Halo 2 and the leap forward from the previous hardware to the Xbox 360 has helped sharpen up the overall appearance of the game, but it just doesn't "feel" like it what some may consider a "next-gen" advancement." Although he likes the game, he is not all that imressed with it. As a lemming all I can comment on is the visuals from the videos that I've seen. I for one am not impressed with the visuals.

good, don't judge graphics untill the final version is released in the fall..

In the history of gaming, Ive seen very, very few games get a major graphical uplift from beta to the final version. The only one I can think of off the top of my head was Soul Calibur for Dreamcast. What I'm trying to say is, you might be very disappointed if you are expecting a graphical revolution for the final version. 

beta or not, the reason i find the game so archaic looking is the environment

compare crysis gameplay to halo and its clear what a next gen battlefield looks like

im not saying the game wont be fun, it's just not very next gen(other than what ive seen of the water physics)

and thats something we wont see change in 6 months

Well the beta videos are meant to showcase the new gameplay features and not the graphics. The game isn't even polished or finished so don't hold your breath. But I'm sharpening my pitchfork just in case...

Yes, they even said on teamxbox to not expect a major upgrade in the visuals. They said what you see now is pretty much what your going to see in the final multiplayer version of the game. They said that there may be a few added bells and whistles here and there but no big major upgrade at all.

Beta looks better then Alpha. But Beta still looks like crap.

They have 4-6 months left. I have faith.

Kameo, PGR4 (have you seen this game!?), Fight Night, Ghost Recon, Lost Planet, Condemed, Blue Dragon, Dirt, etc...I could keep going...

How is it crap? It looks fine to me, and if those were the final graphics (which I know they aren't, many, many of their new environmental systems don't appear too be in the beta, the vegetation, the proper weather, etc), I'd be fine. Why? Halo is more about the gameplay than shiny nex gen graphcis...

This game will impress more in the gameplay than graphics even when they tighten up the graphics... But we can already see the great lighting engine...

And no sane person polishes the graphics in a beta release... that's just poor planning...

And the Unreal Engine 3 isn't that great...   It seems to be designed for the old way of making games, not the current way of desinging games...

First off, alpha and beta mean the game is in near working condition.  Only and idiot fixes the graphics before the game itself...  Cause you need to match the art style througout the game, and worrying about graphics first only ruins the gameplay...

Have you seen the Unreal Engine 3 betas?  They didn't look nearly as good as the engine does today...

Same with Metroid Prime, and even Halo 2...

Chill out. It's like you're saying that graphics will make or break the dam game. I have nothing against graphic whores ,since I'm one myself, but some of you people just go a little too far.  

ill personally wait until -- y'know, public beta... then y'know, the final gold release.

Bungie reps have said many times that the beta visuals are not final. This is why more companies dont have open betas, because babies on the internets whine about them because they can't listen / remember what they've been told.

I mean seriously... its like grabbing a hotdog off the bbq and just slamming it in your mouth then complaining after because there wasn't a bun.

I didn't say that, don't put words in my mouth. I said it'll sell millions regardless of what people think of the graphics. 

Wait... hmmm this gets me ideas... 

Seriously, with GTA4, Mass Effect, UT2007, DMC4, Too Human, Blue Dragon, PGR4,  Assassin's Creed, etc. All due to be released later this year, if Halo flops I couldn't care less.

Regardless of how multiplayer looks. I will reserve judgement until I see *some* single player footage. So far none has leaked, and what they've shown looks comparable to the beta. Good luck Bungie.

beta is meant to spot check for kinks and bugs. The good thing that Bungie doing with is beta is getting feedback to the public on what features should be added, deleted, or modified. I don't expect the final version of Halo 3 to be signifantly different from the beta.

Right now, devs are much more competent with 360 hardware than the PS3's multi-cored architecture. Generally, 360 games have looked much better than their PS3 counterparts. In terms of Halo, I think the area in which it will be most heavily judged is in terms of Replay value. No one will care how bland the textures are, or how many times they can repeat the same environments if the Online multiplayer is up to par with previous Halo efforts. 

But I will agree that what they have shown looks that impressive right now. And I'm not talking solely about the graphics either. Watching the developer's diaries on IGN, the game just doesn't seem all that extraordinary. If the stuff that has been released thus far was titled, say 'Killzone PS3', the very same people who are lauding the progress of Halo 3 would be tearing it apart to no end. It has the name, but sadly, that's about it right now.

well then you're going to be in for a shock. bungie has stated that the last cycle of development will be improving the visuals and they've stated that you won't recognize the game when its released. i personally think thats an exaggeration, but thats what they say.
