I honestly want to support both Sony and Microsoft, but the rumors and stupidity never end with the whole broken 360 discussions. That is why is will most likely never buy a 360. There is no way I risk spending nearly $500 bucks to have something break down. I just wish Sony would drop the price to get more next gen gamers aboard.

The failure rate should go down with time, I hope so but comments like ''things break'' are really hypocrite comments and I feel like MS is really looking over the obvious failure rate.

Yea while he's right when he says "Things break", the response itself was a bad one. Microsoft seems to be good with fixing broken consoles, and they made their warrenty longer so thats nice. But yea, things break....not a good repsonse hehe

The failure rate: according to the threads around here at least 750%, according to MS 5%.

Well they have sent messeges informing me that its happened and im pretty sure mine broke since it wouldnt turn on anymore. How about I just put it this way its way more than 5%.

Either way, 5% is a hugeeee percentage considering the user base of the 360, 5% = 500,000.

Honest to God truth, the failure rate could be much better than what it is, but fanboys find some ridiculous way of spinning it into something much worse, just because they don't like it. 360 is a great machine and is realiable if you watch what you're doing with it. I've been on countless gaming marathons of 4-5 hrs or sometimes longer on my 360 and have yet to have anything bad happen to it.

Yeah I'm sure it's 50% lol So about 5 Million people or so have had breaks then right? If that was the case MS would have to do a recall just off the insane amount money they would be loosing from all the repairs and shipping setc..

Mine just turned a year old a couple weeks ago, and now it freezes every few minutes, and a couple times it gave me the overheated lights.  It has tons of ventilation space and it is not even used frequently, because my ps3 tends to be used more.  I got the extended warranty at best buy, and I have a feeling that once i am reimburse, I will not be using the money to get a new 360, because this is BS.  I guess I may have to miss out on too human and mass effect, but I am not going to keep buying warranties so that I can replace my console yearly.  F U M$!  Sorry, this happened fairly recently, so I am still infuriated.

The fact that the failure rate on the 360 is still so high is mind boggling to me, and frankly pretty scary.  I know MS WANTS to have them fail less, because it would save them the cost of fixing the broken units.  This suggests to me that it must be something fundamentally wrong with the design of the system that cannot be easily or cheaply fixed.  Without a significant redesign, we may never get truly reliable 360s, and that is sad, because the game library is shaping up to be really impressive.  But the fact that 7 of the 12 or so people I know have had one 360 break on them and 2 of the 7 have had two go on them has kept me from buying one. That and the ridiculously overpriaced wifi add-on.

very few compared to how much sold.

The precent is really very low.

But the new 360's failure rate is slim to none, it was mostly the launch 360's that had problems. Most has been fixed.

Definitely the machine's biggest problem.  I hear the 65 nm chips are going to appear this fall?  It might be nice to play Halo 3 on a smaller, cooler, quieter, more reliable 360.  I think I'd better wait, I don't want to spend a fortune on renewed warranties.

Funny you mention that. MS is bleeding money.
