This over exagerated importance placed on graphics in SW is disgusting.

To see games that will probably unanimously be praised as an outstanding game have their greatness cheapened over a petty **** measuring contest is disgusting.

Just look at all these Killzone 2 vs Gears 2 threads that pop up on SW daily. They're all exactly the same. Both games looks freaking amazing, that's indisputable. But being named the graphics king carries no real importance. It doesn't really do anything for that game.

Don't get me wrong, I love me a pretty game. I'm amazed how far games have come compared to back in the SNES and Genesis days. But you've got to understand... it's not as important as some make it out to be. Graphics are just icing on a cake. It's the gameplay, atmosphere, presentation and innovation that makes a game memorable, not graphics. Pretty games come and go all the time and a lot are forgotten.

Story/music is purely opinion. Atmosphere is a combination of sound design, graphics, and presentation. We can post pictures at full resolution easily but we can't post sound without going through the trouble of making a video that'll probably output stereo sound.

I was referring to consoles not handhelds. And what downlodable content are you talking about? Retro games or small new downloadable games?

I completely agree. And the Resistance 2 example was indeed a good one. Probably in every thread that I have read where the game was mentioned, there are the inevitable posts that chime in on how the game sucks because Gears of War 2 (or whatever game) looks better. Every other positive aspect or attribute that is going into the game is completely ignored based on a graphical comparison alone. Things like a strong focus on a lengthy campaign, improved A.I. even over what was pretty damn good A.I. in the first one, a grander scale than the first one, and a 60 player multiplayer are all swept under the rug because (insert game here) has better graphics.

But, what do you do? That's System Wars for you. The most difficult thing you can do is try and sway someone else's opinion toward your own when they hold the polar opposite view. No matter how many times you try to explain something that seems clear to you to someone who is on the other side of the fence, the more likely they are to resist. At which point it ultimately becomes akin to beating yourself over the head with a hammer and then questioning why it is that your head hurts so. I think that this applies to gamers especially, being the hard headed, finicky bunch that we are, lol.

It dosent matter what ANYONE thinks in SW. Resistance 2 will rock and sell well. I quit caring what anyone thinks about me or video games on this forum along time ago. Seems like most posters here dont even like video games, seems they all need to play the stock market, because all they care about is corp.

The thing is, it doesn't really matter if the only thing being enhanced by the power of that system is the the up front graphics.

And either way, comparing games that are out right now or in the near future isn't proving which system is more powerful. Just because a certain game is the best looking game on the console right now doesn't mean that console will never produce something better. Like when Uncharted released and Cows said this finally shows that the PS3 is more powerful that the 360... That doesn't prove anything. It's a second generation PS3 game. Ya gotta be crazy if you don't think better looking games are on the way on either console.

graphics matter to an extent but its not that big a factor in determining if a game is good or not.LoRoseUp

This is true. A game like world of warcraft is helped by it's art direction more than it's graphical prowess.

Judging a game by its appearence, a book by is cover, a person by how they dress - it's the nature of people.

i definitly want for my games to have the whole package....but i wont not play game if it doesnt look great.....but then again i want my games to look like they are up with the times too....alot of wii games dont accomplish that tho...but it does seem funny that the games that have really good graphix for the wii tend to be the best games- SMG SSBB RE:UC ZAK AND WIKI MP3

I just think it's stupid for someone to say a going below a certain graphical level is unacceptable, when millions still play retro games and handheld games and enjoy them.

The textures are just fine in todays game, people just overblow them.

I say character models and animations are more important to me than textures which do not move.

Anyways Resistance was a heck of a game, reminded me of those old school PC FPS. I hope R2 lives up to the hype and surprass the orignal.
