"The Horizons Hardware report, compiled by the PC Gaming Alliance, shows that the annual shipment volume for PC hardware in 2009 was over double all consoles combined.

The report uses revenues from PCs that shipped with a discrete GPU as their benchmark. These revenues totaled $54.6 billion in 2009, and were based on the sale of 61.5 million PCs that were purchased last year with "gaming in mind."

The report also estimates that there 212.6 million PC users with a discrete graphics card in their machine."

Damnit, I was just sharpening the pitchforks and lighting the torches for a perfectly good debate/flame-war.

I'm sure at least 1/4 of those people don't even use their gaming pc for "gaming".

A lot of those people probably got ripped off into buying expensive gaming hardware they don't even need.

I know many people who own an i7 rig with gtx 480 video card who only use their pc for office works.

Also, Starcraft 2 is clearly the worst game ever created. Blizzard can't make games to save their lives. They should go stick their heads in the ground, and never come out.

Super Mario galaxy 2 is clearly a kiddy game, which exepmlifies the shovelware on the Wii.

Over 200 million machines I see, well since piracy is 90% then we can assume only 20 million install base for publishers? Except for MMOs that is, so it does seem to be in line with the departure of big budget games on PC.mystervj

So because pcs are selling and parts are selling dont mean people are playing games other than solitaire. AND laptops are out selling desktops by about 2-1 these days..

3 years from now when all the console games that are coming out this year have little to dead communities, SC2, and Diablo 3 will still have thriving massive communities, with millions of users playing every day.

I work in a software R&D lab and I can tell you that I don't know a single of the many employees who own such a beast rig for anything. I have the most powerful computer of any of my co-workers.

There are TONS of PC gamers out there. Sales don't lie. Game sales on the PC are not like game sales on the consoles. Games on the PC sell strong throughout their lives as people upgrade their comps. They don't just have a major spike in sales the first week and drop to nothing after like console games. PC gamers get themselves invested in games that take longer to beat, or get caught up in online games with really no end. So instead of buying new games all of the time, they just play the few they have and pick up a new title once the price has come down a bit.

PC gaming and console gaming are entire different animals.
