It seems that the amount of marketing is creating the sales for games like this. The critics and public reception seemed rather lukewarm, and yet it sells like hotcakes.

Or would it be that they released it at the right time? I mean, the wait for BF3 is rather long.

Did it? And they didn't market it a lot, right? That's kind of weird.

You're really asking me this? The better games don't always sell more.. Like last year, Vanquish, Mass Effect 2, weren't big sellers. And it's not a military MP focused shooter...With a controversial storyline.

people with good taste in games? homefront has a ****y MP and a incredibly short campaign. at least bulletstorm is a decent length, does something new with the skillshots (fun as hell, btw) and anarachy mode, while not competitive MP, is a lot more though out then the 2 gametype only COD clone that is homefront's mp.

The budget was around 50 million dollars and they needed 2 million sales to break even.

That was before their stock dropped 20% yesterday...

Homefront enjoys a massive 33% discount on Amazon and at Walmart, and it's just the second day ffs.

With production costs of $35 million to $50 million and tens of millions more to advertise, Homefront is the most expensive video game THQ has produced. The company must sell 2 million copies just to break even, a company executive said.

KAOS is in New York, that's why it was so expensive. THQ talked about moving them to Canada, but now they're totally screwed!

The game is actually pretty fun. The multiplayer feels unique enough to hold its own for the next few months (if enough DLC is released). Single player is way too short though.

They will break even, if I recall correctly Medal of Honor had to sell like 3 million+ for a sequel and everyone here thought it was terrible. But they sold that amount so Homefront will have no issues IMO.

Yeah but Medal of Honor was Medal of Honor and it had the Tier 1/Afghanistan hook...

And it'a bit stupid how we're supposed to be horrified by the usual FPS slaughterfest just because it now happens in the American suburbs. I doubt many people outside the US give a **** about that and about the marketing that relied heavily on the setting.

No, just no. That was no medal of honor, it was a cheap cod ripoff. Case and point, look how airborne was, look how the old games were, but instead goign either way, they went all cod ripoff and super scripted linearity without really impressive happening. Hell they made money without even trying by just using cod as a way to sell their game.

I'm sure those numbers are shipped to retailers and not actually what has sold. How would THQ know that number so fast. NPD will only report sold.I wonder if it even sold half of those as from reportsmany copiesare still on shelves and prices already discountedto$42 at Walmart.

Actually I played so many games that were located in the US lately, that the US setting has become very boring. When I hear a game is taking place in US i'm like 'not again'.

Same.. I don't see the obession with using the US.. and even on top of that they don't try mixing it up a bit instead they use NY, DC and cali too much. So many places in the world yet they keep using the US over and over... I mean I'm pretty sure everyone is fed up with that by now.
