Looking good. no soul like game, no RPG, no open world, pure action game. plus protagonist is cute.
I'm kind of burned out with these kinds of games, they are all starting to look the same.
The only one I'm mildly interested in is Black Myth Wukong due to the setting and animations (so many varied interactions with bosses)
From what I'm seeing, this does not look the same from the rest of the genre in my eyes. Totally looking forward to it.
But I got to ask. What exactly does Tides of Annihilation look and plays like from the rest?
Curiously optimistic, but it's showing too little actual game (it's mostly slow walking RP sections and ugly chase platforming) to really get me excited. Could just end up being another X-Blades.

Can you give examples of all these games that look the same?
Because if you mean it looks the same as Bayonetta 3, Ninja Gaiden 4, Stellar Blade, or Devil May Cry 5 I'm just not seeing what you're seeing.. If anything Tides of Annihilation shows a heavy reliance on summoning powerful monsters to do the fighting, Bayonetta sometimes summons too but that's more to add insult to injury, ToA seems like we're playing a Summoner; games such as Devil May Cry, Stellar Blade and Ninja Gaiden they're martial art masters.
Black Myth Wukong is a weird one because it has a reliance on exp/levelling and player stat-gear. I think it's more accurate to call Wukong an Action RPG over a 3D Slasher. It's got more in common with The Witcher 3 & Nioh than it does a Ninja Gaiden or God of War.

I mean the cinematic hack and slash genre.
Games like Stellar Blade, FF16, DMC5, Neir, Bayonetta, Astral Chain, Phantom Blade Zero, Lost Soul Aside, Ninja Gaiden 4 all have a similar look or theme to me.
Will it be fun? Maybe, and I might play it over the others.
@navyguy21: Half of those games are Action RPGs and while they can look similar in trailers they have completely different pacing, level design, and overall gameplay. ARPGs being closer to Dragon's Dogma and The Witcher 3.
Nier relies on stat increases and leveling, more power gear to fight higher level enemies. You learn new moves in a Devil May Cry & Ninja Gaiden however that's to give more variety, your power is overall the same from beginning to end. In a Hn'S it's about you getting better at playing the game over the game giving you more advantages. The progression powers in a 3D Slasher is tied to exploring new areas to progress towards the next section of the game.
Hack n' Slashers are not going to be for everyone. And while I'm not really seeing Nier & Ninja Gaiden having much in common visually, if you really want to take an interest & want games that is visually very unique maybe something like Lollipop Chainsaw will catch your interest more, or even Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Visually they are both very unique in general._
Looks Chinese, based on the art direction and overall appearance. Is it?
*looks up developer*
Yup, it is. Surprise surprise.
Anyway, doesn't look bad, but not my cup of tea. Not sure how I feel about the notion we might be getting a bunch of games like this now that Black Myth was a huge success, and I worry about the quality given that Chinese manufacturing and development can essentially use slave labor.
Japan better watch their ass, though; I think China is gunning for their game development industry.

I kind of agree with this sentiment.
Don't get me wrong: I'm not a hater for the sake of hating, I don't subscribe to the outrage feedback loop a lot of gamers do. And I really do hope this game is good; a rising tide lifts all ships, as the saying goes.
It's just...I don't really like this genre to begin with, and frankly we are likely going to be getting a lot of clones of this sort soon I wager.
Basically waifu-hack-and-slash game. Or boy-band-member hack-and-slash game.

You'd be delighted to know that Soul Reaver has none of those things and is one of my all time favorites.
So long as you're fine with playing a game very clearly made in the 90's I feel Soul Reaver answers a lot of your nitpicky issues with 3D Slashers.
I'm happy to live in a world in which Legacy of Kain, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry have come back from the dead. I wish all three success with new games that keep the genre healthy and inspire studios across the world to make 3D Slashers over Soul-like clones.
@RSM-HQ: yeah Ninja Gaiden is on my list of next games to play, having never tried it out.
I heard it is pretty brutal though! As a filthy casual, I hope it doesn't chase me away.
*Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, to be specific
@mrbojangles25: .. From what you've noted I don't think you'll enjoy the opening of Ninja Gaiden Black 2. It has as you call "waifus", the entire series has voluptuous female characters that seems to be one of your more vocal criticisms.
The combat is challenging, namely at first, once the combat clicks you feel very powerful, and has a very good and satisfying combat system. If I gave just one none spoiler hint to find your early-goings easier: Block (Block, Roll Over, Attack) the game is much easier if you consider the counter attack stratagy, just don't remain idle ever in combat.
Ninja Gaiden punishes recklessness and lack of awareness more than anything.
@RSM-HQ: thanks for the explanation, I still think I will check it out.
Also, to be clear: I don't mind hot babes in video games, I just think it's low-hanging fruit when it is a main feature, and an appeal to man's baser instincts.
It's cheap, low effort, and low class, in other words.
Japan better watch their ass, though; I think China is gunning for their game development industry.
If we talk about gacha games, China has far surpassed Japan in terms of quality and investment. Now, after the success of Wukong, they will turn their attention to the singleplayer game market.

I would argue many the Hack n' Slasher games do this regardless and it's not just hot women but hot men as well. Wouldn't call it a "main feature" regardless the quality of even the recent Stellar Blade speaks for itself for having excellent gameplay. You can even see from the above the renowning love for Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta and Devil May Cry and it's all down to gameplay depth and the sheer excellence they offer. All have hot characters.. so what's the real issue here?
Those who find hot characters off-putting are usually fat chicks who spend all day on Twitter, and they don't even play video games. Majority want playable avatars in games to be attractive, it's not required but it's not exactly a difficult thing to figure out.
It's not just games made in Asia that think this is right either. People have mentioned the God of War, Darksiders, and Heavenly Sword.. these are games made in America, featuring characters that are very attractive_
Quite a few of the American developers of today have just hired anti-social activists that don't speak towards the majority of even people of your country. It should come as no shock people like attractive characters in video games.
Furthermore generally speaking seems the modern games with fugly avatars are the ones with weaker, bad gameplay. So if any game is selling a main feature. It's ugly characters for people who don't play video games.
*most women who play video games like attractive characters too. It's not just men.
@Pedro: As someone who likes both men and women I find Dante coming out the shower in two games fighting, one being bare naked with some minor censorship quite appealing. Raiden has also done the nude thing too as he holds his junk only able to cartwheel kick. Nice ass all considering..
But it also depends on your definition of "same level".
Studies show many feel the most attractive part of a fit male is the abs, pecs and the glutes. So I feel that aspect is well compensated in these games.
What do you consider peak attractive male gazing Pedro?
*Raziel has also been completely naked this whole time and we just ignore it because he's a zombie-like creature. Most of his form is just a butt-naked attractive male specimen, and honestly it's a smart way to avoid censorship.

From the same game.
Are you saying that the Ryu is on the same level as the female presentation?
@Pedro: Feel you're trying to make a case of volume now which, unless I'm misunderstanding is quite different from your question prior.
Now if this was a case of women are commonly more fanservice in 3D Slashers then you'd be on the ball and that goes without question. I would enjoy more male fan-service for sure, such as that hot Ryu costume & shower Dante.

I don't need to make a case for volume because we all know the answer for that. The point that I am highlighting is equivalency in how they are design.
@Pedro: Well your point is a weird one. . probably not going as you intended.
Because you felt no regard to answer my question I would assume you're heterosexual. Nothing wrong with that mind you, I feel most this Forum is. Just means you can't look at this without a bias/and or/ preference to what you're looking at. I mention Dante being naked 'with censorship' and that's completely ignored because you don't want to think about naked men. That's ok.
So if you don't find the second at the end costume of Ryu attractive with those flaming pecs and abs.. I don't know what to tell you. Anyone I know who finds men attractive would find that costume hot, it's not a question. It's intentionally designed for gazing.

You didn't answer my initial question.
"What hack n slash feature hot men on the same level as women?"

This is not about one off scenes or sexuality. The context of the conversation is about the design of the character. The two characters are objectively not design in the same manner as hot/sexy female characters. Feel free to use Stellar Blade as reference. Also, I used your reference in the game it originates to demonstrate that he is not on the same level as the females. Feel free to identify another game because the equivalency isn't there in your suggested examples.
