With sony announcing 5.3 million sales recently beating the yearly estimate and the release of japan right around the corner will the sony console blow the Xbox one out of the water globally with sales? Will titanfall be a big enough game to move enough units to not be left in the dust?

With Japan moving towards a more handheld oriented life style will the PS4 be a dud?

Will titanfall put more coal in the Xb1's sales?

What do you guys thinks going to happen with the release of both titanfall and PS4 home turf release around the corner.

I wonder if EA are beating themselves big time right now especially after Sony's announcement with 5.3 Mil PS4's sold, titanfall would have been HUGE this year if it came out on every single system available.

Titanfall will not help XOne at all because:

1- Xbox360 already has a huge installbase of people who love shooters and will simply buy anything that has CoD like gameplay.

2- PC which where a lot of people played the beta at, cheaper version, and already has a bigger installbase.

seriously whos going to buy a $500 plus console for an online only game not counting $60 online fee? lol

small note: sticky? :P

This thread is gonna get locked but I don't think it should for the record. There is something to actually discuss here. There are 5 threads on the main page with "1080p" in the title. Mods lets stop the troll threads...

Anyways

I think Titanfall will help Xbox One sales in the U.S. It wont help it catch the PS4 or anything but there will be a spike. I have played the beta on both PC and Xbox One and I think it's pretty safe to say that Titanfall will be huge. Yes it would be much bigger if it was also on PS4. I would like to see how much money Respawn was given to not release on PS4. It must have been a HUGE amount. Also I don't see Microsoft ever gaining ground in Japan. And I'm sure those that really want to play the game will get it on PC. I think the gamers in Japan may have moved on from console gaming.

EA got a big bag of money from Ms for Titanfall. It will be available on pc and you don't need a monster rig to run it. Honestly they don't care if it ain't on the ps4. Cows care though.

@Animal-Mother: TitanFall will be a system seller, but you probably won't see some big huge jump in March. March, April, and May numbers will be higher for XB1.

I really don't see why all Sony fans are so excited about the PS4 launching in Japan. The PS3 sold 10 million there in what, 7 years? It's a "good" market for them, but not as important as EU or NA. And, success in Japan has nothing to do with the development of Western games, because Japanese gamers generally do not like them.

Japans excitement for TF is big. Considering the 360 won't likely get a boost there at all, it will most likely be the next gears of war and move Xbox One's over there.

Japan = 1 PS3 for every ~13 people

USA = 1 PS3 for every ~11 people

UK = 1 PS3 for every ~12 people

Europe = 1 PS3 for every ~22 people

Nah abandon Japan obviously don't sell any there...

Titanfall will be xone's next halo, it will boost its sales specially in US, however, if titanfall success become as big as cod then expect another gen full of online fps

Halo standardized FPS games on consoles. Titanfall doesn't have as much weight aside from looking absolutely awesome.

Money is money is money and the PS4 isnt so far ahead of the One after 3 months that EA is thinking the gen is over and done with, lol. As Ive said before, irregardless of the PS4 install base if MS decides TF is a pillar the console will stand on, they will write a check for whatever is needed to ensure TF2 never sees the light of day on a PS platform. If you think thats impossible then you aren't very smart on big buisness and money. MS can write the check, provided the game delivers.

Cows gotta dial it back a bit. EA will see profits from PC, 360 and the One. As for helping One sales, hell yes Titanfall will deliver. The marketing push behind this game will be Halo like and you will see Xbox One at the end of every ad. This game will move units. No one game will save a system, but this is the type of game that goes in the pile of "This is a reason to own the system" Titanfall is that good. It will sell on the 360 pretty decent and on PC as well, but anyone honestly expecting the 360 version to be anywhere close to the One version on scale alone is sadly underestimating how the game moves. Resolution aside, the scale of Titanfall will be downed a good deal to fit comfortably on the 360. No doubt the 360 version will be good as the dev is, and sales will be there. But there are landmark games that make gamers upgrade and after playing the hell out of Titanfall for the last 3 days it is definitely a system seller.

I doubt Titanfall will have any effect on the Xbone's sales because the game's a multiplat. On top of it the requirements for it to run on PC are like super low.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-04-titanfalls-pc-system-requirements-revealed

It will require:

  • 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1
  • AMD Athlon X2 2.8GHz or Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
  • 4GB RAM
  • 512MB VRAM, Radeon HD 4770 or GeForce 8800GT

Banking was probably the wrong word my post had more to do with Sony Fan thinking that Japan was worth anything.

The WiiU is important because Nintendo has been a staple for Japan and they have lost interest in them. I think traditional console gaming is dying in Japan and the lack of AAA console titles coming out of there seems to get slimmer and slimmer every generation.

The games that Japan was known for, platformers, fighters, turn based RPGs have seen better days and other studios are more innovative in most of these genres now. I think China will replace Japan as the next big gaming region.

Well said. Who knows though. We'll find out in 4 days. And you are right. Japan isn't as important as it used to be.

Japan is such a iffy territory anymore that there is no telling what is going to happen. I can see them hating TitanFall with a passion and until Microsoft secures some Japanese studios with some JRPG exclusives, The ONE wont be doing much over there.

TitanFall might get the NPD sales to tip The ONE for a month or two. I can see this happening but either way it will be a interesting couple of months coming up.

Yeah I really don't see infamous moving a lot of PS4s. Also you keep going on about MS securing Jrpgs remember Tales of Vesperia? Lost Odyssey? ( Both awesome games) But very only briefly moved 360's.

I think MSoft pulling support for Japan is the way to go, and to @Animal-Mothers point Sony did launch last in this region.

As for Titanfall who knows. The Japanese market is not a big shooter territory but they love themselves some mechs as well.

I think both companies see Japan as a lost cause. Neither side gave a crap about Japan at launch and may continue to do so during the generation.

Xbone is screwed and Titanfall won't save it. There will be a small spike in March and maybe April but that will be it. MS screwed up big time with the price and hardware of Xbone. All they can do now is release games and hope for the best. They need to dominate US even more than they did last gen to stand a chance and all signs point to that not happening.

It wont. Most people will buy Titanfall on 360 or PC. It will only slightly boost sales of Xbox One, but not significantly.

Sony will end up selling out their available stock for at least the first couple of weeks no doubt, after initial release who knows what's going to happen.

As for Titanfall, it being on two other systems, two of which many people already own it's really hard to see it as a "system seller" for the One. 500 bucks plus full price for an online only game and XBL fee sounds too steep of a price to pay for a version that will probably be "slightly" better than it's last gen counter part.

PS4 will sell more than the Xbox One. This is not debatable.

I do expect Titanfall to sell a fair few Xbox One units in Japan though. I do not expect it to help the Xbox One keep up with the PS4, especially since it's on two other, extremely active, really popular platforms.

But then again, Halo was exclusive and Titanfall is not, so you do have a point.

The PS4 will always be more successful than the Xbox One because chances are it'll always be cheaper than the Xbox One. Unless MS gets some miracle exclusive that makes 10 million people want to buy their system immediately then yeah. Titanfall will sell Xbox Ones, but it's not going to overcome the sales the PS4 gets simply for being $100 cheaper.

I think it'll get a boost from Titanfall. Sure why not. EA and Microsoft are going to do a fantastic job marketing the thing.

Enough to make up for PS4's current lead that will get the bonus of them out right dominating Microsoft in a big region? No, not even close.

@StormyJoe: I seriously doubt the Xbox One with Titanfall will tip the scale enough for the Xbox One to sell more in NA where it recently just got outsold 2:1 by the PS4.

For....

1. Cod is and will be a bigger franchise than TitanFall, COD only pulled like 1+ million on the Xbox One, don't expect TitanFall to outdo that number by much.

2. TitanFall is available a vastly superior platform, PC

3. TitanFall is sub 1080p HD, 60 fps with dips. Gamers care ALOT about this type of chit. That's why TR PS4 version outsold the XB1 version by over 3:1.

I think Titanfall will have an impact, but not enough to overtake Sony. The PS brand, even last gen, was and IS the world wide favorite. I have rarely been behind the favorite (miracle on Ice people) so I buy PS, but still buy Xbox as well. Sony will "blow away" MS in total sales by about 40-50 million imo. But the X1 will still be a success imo. Moving better than 50 million over 7 years time, but a drop from 360.

I'm not sure it's going to have the impact some think it will. I mean it's not like the game has only just been announced so surely there should be some buying the console before the game launches yet we've seen the X1 sales barely half the PS4's last month.

That Kotaku article is such a joke, To even reference Masumune Shirow is an insult compared to how boring and generic the art style Titanfall has going for itself, they somehow managed to make the source engine even look like COD.

PS4 would sell as quick as hotcakes in Japan even if it didn't have any games at all. Titanfall won't help Xbox One that much because PlayStation enthusiasts are more bent on console alone than its games.

Well, I thought Titanfall looked reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell video game for PS1 in a way...Anyway, that's the vibe I caught and I can definetly see it resonating with the Japanese gamers.

It's definitely a very grey game, so I can sort of see the resemblance, but mecha wise it looks nothing like Shirows work, the closest I'd say is probably Votoms mixed with Dog from hl2.

And, success in Japan has nothing to do with the development of Western games, because Japanese gamers generally do not like them.

so 1/8 of what they sold in their whole lifespan is not "big"? Also lol titanfall system seller, when it's on pc.

Damn lems will try to downplay anything, poor desperate people :(

I think the Japan launch will be a much larger factor. Consider the pent up demand there for a next gen system to be on equal footing as elsewhere worldwide. Sony will sell every single PS4 they supply at the launch.

Titanfall will sell well to the existing base, very well. But I don't see it have a big boost on X1 sales. A price drop would help with that.

It's ironic that Titanfall is made to be this big Microsoft exclusive, even though everything about it is small, such as the resolution, the framerate, and the number of players. The game is a disgrace.

It's also not an MS exclusive considering I was playing it on my PC over the weekend and I don't own or plan to ever own an Xbone.
