Midway and Epic took a break from dealing with financial ruin and counting Gears of War money, respectively, to announce some details about the massive update to Unreal Tournament 3, dubbed the "Titan Pack", for the PC and Playstation 3 versions of the game.
How much would you pay for 11 brand-new multiplayer maps (with an additional eight maps previously unavailable to PS3 owners)? But that's not all. How about two new game modes? One of the criticisms of Unreal Tournament 3 was that it was lacking the variety of game modes in the previous versions. Here come new game types called Greed (described as a "tug-of-war-****kill points battle") and Betrayal ("cutthroat ****of play where alliance and teams can shift fluidly"). Now how much would you pay?
But wait, there's more! A couple of the vehicles in the game could drop deployable items. Now there's a new stealth vehicle that can drop X-Ray fields to make enemies more vulnerable to damage, and a Link Station to automatically repair vehicles. Two new defensive turrets include a long range artillery piece that can attack all the way across the map, and a powerful new gun that knocks back targets. How much would you pay for all this?
But before you answer, there's one more thing. I'll just quote the press release, which has the appropriate amount of enthusiasm:
The Unreal Tournament 3 Titan Pack also features the new Titan mutator where fragging enough enemies turns you into the almighty Titan, a 15-foot tall maestro of wholesale carnage that has the effects of every Power Up in the game... ALL AT ONCE!!!
Now how much would you pay?
Whatever you said, it's too much. One of the trademarks of the Unreal Tournament series is free content. The Titan Pack is no exception. On March 5th, it'll be available as a free download for the PC and Playstation 3. It won't be available for the Xbox 360, probably since Microsoft is notoriously uncool about free content.
